Extra Innings Thread
I was having trouble posting on the overflow, hopefully this helps!
so far, great job by the guys coming back in the 8th that was nice to see. seems like kerry's troubles always follow a hit batsman to lead of the inning, otherwise he hasn't really had any trouble when he gets the guy out.
hopefully this is up to about 75 words now, and let's see if the cubs can pull this one out! i feel like tonight holds a win for us, go cubbies!

I have been pissed off at him.

You might think if I use batter or this pitcher he will no longer be available and a pitcher may
be available the next day. From that game in Philly to using Marmol with a six run lead to
pinch hitting Z with a six run lead. Making sure Hill, Murton. Marshall and Pie know you have
zero confidence in them and coddling Soriano because he is a superstar.

Yes, plenty of blame to go around.
It sucks losing a game that costs so much in terms of bullpen use. I also am annoyed with Lou’s managing in the game, he contributed allot to the loss. But it’s only one loss and we’ll bounce back tomorrow.
Squandered opportunities....
Downfall of last years team…..will be downfall this year too….
The best defense is a good offense
And
And it’s all Theriot’s fault. Actually Theriot is magical. He morphed into Marquis and gave up the runs, he morphed into Kerry and blew the save, he morphed into DeRosa and struck out with the bases loaded. And he morphed into Soto and let the wild pitch through.
And he also mind melded with Lou to not walk Bay.

Yup....
The same Cubs team that won what, 86 games last year?? It’s going to take 90+ to get in the playofffs in the NL East/Central this year…....
The same Cubs team that didn’t win a playoff game because of a dysfunctional offense??
Division titles don’t mean squat
The best defense is a good offense
Theriot
Theriot is batting 300 and has played a decent SS this season. Yes he’s had mistakes like every other player does.
I know there’s a lot of people here who predicted he’d barely crack 220 so are hoping so much he stops hitting so they’d be right.
Cub fans even those who predicted he would hit 220 want to be wrong.
It’s those that can’t wait to jump on every mistake that want to be right more than they want the Cubs to win. Those aren’t Cub fans. Rooting against any player on the team makes you not a Cubs fan. If he was a jerk or was an off the field cancer there might be an argument.

Theriot
If I heard the same amount of praise when he does well as the ridiculous bashing over every mistake I’d feel differently.

HEY LADY
You aren’t in every game thread like I am. There have been very few game threads where he gets trashed.
PLEASE STOP YOUR RANTINGS NOW!!!!!
I usually read
I usually read them after the game because lately due to circumstances I’m in and out of the room watching or listening and want details.
It does go overboard at times.
There are people that predicted he’d hit 220 and they want to be right more than they want the Cubs to win.
I also predicted he’d not hit well (I predicted 240) but I want to be wrong because if I’m wrong it’s best for the Cubs.
And again if you don’t want to read what I have to say nobody’s holding a gun to your head to do so. If they are please call the police.

I don't dislike/bash...TheRiot.....
Just don’t think he has major league range at SS…....I like him….......Just would like to see better defense at SS. The guy we gave up on (yes he choked tonight too) is now hitting …. andd iss a much better defensive option IMHO
The best defense is a good offense
Cedeno
They are hitting about the same last time I checked if your speaking of Cedeno.

No, see, there are these things called "extra bases."
You could look into them. Some hitters hit for extra bases, making them more valuable.
You aren't looking at stats I'm loooking at....
The sample size police will shoot me down….BUT….Ronnny has 19 RBI’s in 74 at bats….while Riot has 13 in 182 at bats…....looks to me like Cedeno is more productive…..the averages are a wash yes…
The best defense is a good offense
Cedeno
Cedeno bats further down in the order. Theriot bats 2nd.
For example not comparing him to Sandberg but Ryno only had 100 RBIS the year he hit 40 homeruns because he hit 2nd.
We’re also not talking about playing Neifi over Arod either. Neither are Neifi and neither are Arod.

Cedeno
Who would have thought we’d have this group hardon for Cedeno?
Theriot is faster Cedeno gets more extra base hits.
Maybe I’m just not a big Cedeno fan because I associate the name Ronny with Mr. Woo Woo.
Maybe if he called himself Ron like Santo I’d like him better :).

And frankly if I'm looking to crriticise tonight....
I’m looking directly at Blanco’s, DeRosa’s and Johnson’s failure to drive in runs…..
The best defense is a good offense
You're wrong
Theriot actually morphed into them and failed to drive in those runs.

Wanna take a guess as to what the Cubs' record is
when they lead going into the ninth inning?
26-2.
Calm down, people.

I have to say
I have to say this is not as bad as one other forum where people actually make bets that Ryan Dempster won’t win more than 10 and Theriot will not bat over 240.
Maybe it’s just the name Ryan. I blame it all on Ryan Seacrest. He poisoned Ryans for years.
Honestly if someone had been in Outer Mongolia and found a computer and found this thread you would think the Cubs had lost 40 in a row.

I'll bet right now....barring injury....
Demp wins 14-17 games easy…...
The best defense is a good offense
Actually, I think she is helping the situation
This is approaching Blue Mike territory on the unintentional comedy scale

Yeah, I'd like to see a list of all the times I said Theriot would bat .220.
I’ll be patient. I can wait.

No Linda Kohlmeyer tonight!

Let's All Just Agree
that they played like crap tonight
From Dero to Theriot to Kerry to Blanco to Lou to Marquis. What sucks is that they burned their bullpen for loss. I would have rather had them not come back and then incur what happened here tonight.
They have to win tomorrow otherwise this not being able to win a series on the road thing is going to become mental

I agree
When you lose a game like this you think we blew up the pen for this?
When you win it doesn’t matter.

I forgot
I have a friend who visited this blog and is considered leaving her current one to join us and asked me why people spell Cedeno backwards.
I forgot. Why is that?

Calmed down now....
...a tough loss, that’s about it. I’ll even take back by criticism of Lou from an earlier post about the his decision to pitch to Bay. I still don’t agree with it but the bases would have been loaded. I would have rather pitched to LaRoche but it’s just one game.
Theriot has limitations but he is giving this team far more then they could expect from essentially a utility player.
The issues of Theriot v. Cedeno and the latest left handed out-maker that we can put in CF are marginal issues, although the CF issue can become a big one as the season moves along….
A tough, lousy, stinking loss, but this is still a good team with a good chance.
I'm a Theriot Fan
I’m a Ryan Theriot fan, I want him to do really well and I do think his bashing on here is over the top.
HOWEVER, reading KOW posts I almost wish I wasn’t rooting for The Riot because well, she kinda went psycho tonight on here.
In the end, you can’t just blame one player for a loss. A closer is supposed to get a save, our 2B can’t be striking out as often as he had in clutch games this year AND The Pirates had some good defense in the outfield that surely would have given us 2 more runs on any other given night.
But hey if you want some real entertaining, get a feed to 660NY the Mets radio station. The Mets destroyed The Rockies but those fans are calling in complaining about that team more than you can imagine.
It was a team loss.
I like Theriot and I want to see all of the Cubs players do well. Losses hurt no doubt about that but this team will rebound just like they always do.
I agree with you about KOW. It was ridiculous.
