Extra Innings Thread

Star-divide

I was having trouble posting on the overflow, hopefully this helps!

so far, great job by the guys coming back in the 8th that was nice to see.  seems like kerry's troubles always follow a hit batsman to lead of the inning, otherwise he hasn't really had any trouble when he gets the guy out.

hopefully this is up to about 75 words now, and let's see if the cubs can pull this one out!  i feel like tonight holds a win for us, go cubbies!

This game is on Lou as much as Wood etc

Lou manages ONLY FOR THE MOMENT. He never thinks about what will happen
when he uses up both a bench and bullpen. I am not talking just about tonight. He
has done this ALL season. Since the Sunday game in Philly in April when we only
won due to a bad call and an error after Lou used up the ENTIRE bench in 9 innings
I have been pissed off at him.
Lou is NOT a mad genius, just a pig headed guy obsessed with left/right match ups
teaching players he does not like a lesson and not thinking beyond the moment.

Christ, I wish you were right.

It’s aggravating to watch Theriot make outs on the basepaths and cost the team runs in the field. It hurts, it sucks, it’s aggravating. If it makes us bad people to want to vent about it with fellow Cubs fans, well, then we’re bad people. What the hell ever.

You manage for BOTH

This is NOT game 7 of the WS and you don’t actually manage every game as if it were
You might think if I use batter or this pitcher he will no longer be available and a pitcher may
be available the next day. From that game in Philly to using Marmol with a six run lead to
pinch hitting Z with a six run lead. Making sure Hill, Murton. Marshall and Pie know you have
zero confidence in them and coddling Soriano because he is a superstar.

I am not going on any ledges. This is a VERY good team which I think is winning
more in spite of Lou than because of him.

Yes, plenty of blame to go around.

It sucks losing a game that costs so much in terms of bullpen use. I also am annoyed with Lou’s managing in the game, he contributed allot to the loss. But it’s only one loss and we’ll bounce back tomorrow.

And it’s all Theriot’s fault. Actually Theriot is magical. He morphed into Marquis and gave up the runs, he morphed into Kerry and blew the save, he morphed into DeRosa and struck out with the bases loaded. And he morphed into Soto and let the wild pitch through.

And he also mind melded with Lou to not walk Bay.

Theriot

Theriot is batting 300 and has played a decent SS this season. Yes he’s had mistakes like every other player does.

I know there’s a lot of people here who predicted he’d barely crack 220 so are hoping so much he stops hitting so they’d be right.

Cub fans even those who predicted he would hit 220 want to be wrong.

It’s those that can’t wait to jump on every mistake that want to be right more than they want the Cubs to win. Those aren’t Cub fans. Rooting against any player on the team makes you not a Cubs fan. If he was a jerk or was an off the field cancer there might be an argument.

I usually read them after the game because lately due to circumstances I’m in and out of the room watching or listening and want details.

It does go overboard at times.

There are people that predicted he’d hit 220 and they want to be right more than they want the Cubs to win.

I also predicted he’d not hit well (I predicted 240) but I want to be wrong because if I’m wrong it’s best for the Cubs.

Cedeno

Cedeno bats further down in the order. Theriot bats 2nd.

For example not comparing him to Sandberg but Ryno only had 100 RBIS the year he hit 40 homeruns because he hit 2nd.

We’re also not talking about playing Neifi over Arod either. Neither are Neifi and neither are Arod.

Calmed down now....

...a tough loss, that’s about it. I’ll even take back by criticism of Lou from an earlier post about the his decision to pitch to Bay. I still don’t agree with it but the bases would have been loaded. I would have rather pitched to LaRoche but it’s just one game.

Theriot has limitations but he is giving this team far more then they could expect from essentially a utility player.

The issues of Theriot v. Cedeno and the latest left handed out-maker that we can put in CF are marginal issues, although the CF issue can become a big one as the season moves along….

A tough, lousy, stinking loss, but this is still a good team with a good chance.

by DudeVf11 on May 24, 2008 11:24 PM CDT reply actions

I'm a Theriot Fan

I’m a Ryan Theriot fan, I want him to do really well and I do think his bashing on here is over the top.

HOWEVER, reading KOW posts I almost wish I wasn’t rooting for The Riot because well, she kinda went psycho tonight on here.

In the end, you can’t just blame one player for a loss. A closer is supposed to get a save, our 2B can’t be striking out as often as he had in clutch games this year AND The Pirates had some good defense in the outfield that surely would have given us 2 more runs on any other given night.

But hey if you want some real entertaining, get a feed to 660NY the Mets radio station. The Mets destroyed The Rockies but those fans are calling in complaining about that team more than you can imagine.

by ak123 on May 25, 2008 12:28 AM CDT reply actions

It was a team loss.

I like Theriot and I want to see all of the Cubs players do well. Losses hurt no doubt about that but this team will rebound just like they always do.

I agree with you about KOW. It was ridiculous.
