y'know, this Reed kid...
not a terrible option for the 8 spot. Let him play vs. lefties. Let Pie play vs. righties.
Good defense for all.

Marquis actually makes the bunt this time.
Reed to second.
Soriano to the plate.

Mark Derosa
As the season progresses, He will be the first person traded! I like Mark but business is business!! Muffman said it first!!!
I believe you said it last, as well.
"This is the kind of thing … that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose." Marty Brennaman
Muffman is hitting the tipply bipple a bit early.
DeRosa is an extremely valuable player. We’ll trade pitchers before we trade DeRosa.

Disagree.
He’s had terrible games the last two games.
His first two games since a night off.
I don’t believe this is a coincidence.

I think he means

Um, why?
So we can have Mike Fontenot manning second for half of a season?
I can think of plenty of things I’d rather do than that, including driving a railroad spike into my chest cavity.
concave, are you?
2008: The year we put it all together.
by drewishdrewid on May 29, 2008 8:24 PM CDT up reply actions
Yup.
If we trade D-Ro, we’ll need a 2B in return. Or…we could put Theriot there and Cedeno at short. But that doesn’t upgrade our team at all.
"This is the kind of thing … that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose." Marty Brennaman
If the Brewers don't start to win, Ben Sheets' contract ends this year...
He could be on the trading market, The Cubs could trade DeRosa and some prospects (I’m sure they can assemble a nice package) for Sheets and start Cedeno and Theriot up the middle.

you now owe me a new computer.
I just spit on my keyboard at the prospect of the Brewers giving their ace up to THEIR biggest rival.
"This is the kind of thing … that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose." Marty Brennaman
Yay butterfingers!
We’d be lucky to get Russ Branyan out of the Brewers. Which, I’ll admit, I’d love to have Branyan, but that’s neither here nor there.
bleah.
First of all, explain to me how Sheets stays off the DL.
Second of all, explain to me how we replace DeRosa’s hitting ability.
2008: The year we put it all together.
by drewishdrewid on May 29, 2008 8:25 PM CDT up reply actions
He's saying it would be that big of an upgrade to our pitching that we could live with the offensive downgrade.
I actually agree. But ain’t happening. Crew aren’t giving us their ace so we can win. We’re not giving the Crew our best prospects so they can beat us in 2-3 years.
"This is the kind of thing … that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose." Marty Brennaman

"I've always felt that starting pitching is the most important part of the rotation." - Joe Morgan, Sunday Night Baseball 8-12-07
You have to realize...
...that somehow a cult of baseball fans have arisen that thinks that trying to hit for power, or hell, hitting line drives is selfish; ground balls are for “team players.”
Well,
I am a small time BB’er who never played college ball, so maybe I just can’t grasp the finer points of the game. It is hard to see here in my mom’s basement.

Holy meatball.

"I've always felt that starting pitching is the most important part of the rotation." - Joe Morgan, Sunday Night Baseball 8-12-07
I think you're joking here, but Jason Marquis doesn't have the ability to control WHERE...
...the ball is hit to. All he has the ability to do is pray really hard that there’s someone there when the ball is hit wherever its going.
I thought so, but it amazes me when people say things like...
...”Well, he worked out of that jam.” What part of letting a guy hit a line drive was working out of a jam? So it got caught by the first baseman – how the heck is that something the pitcher tdid?
I am just continually amazed that
he remains in the league pitching like a high school sophomore.
He is the very definition of effective mediocrity.

I'm thinking Cotts replaces Marquis.
Lieber becomes the #5 starter.
"This is the kind of thing … that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose." Marty Brennaman
Well
we won’t have a chance in the playoff anyway…we don’t have a legit #2 starter or a LH power bat CF’er.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

dammit, dammit, dammit.
Jason Marquis is not my favorite person. And Neal Cotts’ fastball is still quite hittable. That was smoked. By Willy freaking Tavaras

Well at least Cotts was able to get the Rockies to put in the PHer.
Because I don’t know if I could live knowing that Scotty Pods had given the Rockies the lead.
Be fair...
Cotts wasn’t exactly set up for success.

all of these runs
go on Marquis’ stellar ERA.

You don't throw Taveras a fastball.
That was just dumb

Whaddya want?
Bases loaded. Your first appearance in the ML all year. Walking the guy is just not an option. Gotta throw a fastball or two. Thought Cotts did an OK job.

wasn't it a 1-2 pitch?
that’s not ok. waste one

I'm guessing it's not one
where the waitresses tell you you to throw Willy Tavaras anything but a fastball.

Have you ever lived in Des Moines?
I may have been there once as a kid, but don’t remember it. You seem to have an unfavorable impression of it.
A few times.
You’re right, it’s not exactly tops on my list of places to visit. “Better than Maryland” is not a ringing endorsement.
Hey
I live in Maryland

I'm sorry.
I lived in Ann Arundle County. If it wasn’t for Cluck-U Chicken, I don’t know what I would’ve ate.
NIce!!
I know Cluck U well from my U of Maryland days. Excellent eats!!!

Cluck U was great stuff...
...but they had the worst Chinese and the worst delivery pizza I’ve ever had in my life. Cluck U was the only thing that delivered on base that seemed to have discovered flavor. I swear, it’s like I was in the one place on earth where MSG hadn’t been invented yet!
yeah, I want to see
an MSG stat.

Yeah, you’re not going to get much in terms of pizza because you mostly get NY style this far east. Chinese is hit or miss around here as well. The only good pizza around here is Ledo’s. The closest thing to Chicago style. God I miss Chicago food.

You're looking at all the wrong things.
You’re looking at results, not the process. And he has a LEFT-HANDED process. Left handed, I tells you!
Edmonds looks stupendous as he whiffs from the left side of the plate!

well
I asked if Marquis could play center, but I don’t think I want Edmonds to pitch!

""At the end of the day, boys, you don't tell me how rough the water is, you bring in the ship." -- Steve Stone
Pick your poison.
Door number one -
Jim Edmonds, weak fly ball to center field!
Door number two -
Micah Hoffpauir, swinging five feet over the pitch!
Door number three -
Mike Fontenot, Wonder Hampster! May have to watch him impersonate a second baseman after he bats!
I'll take #3 for now at least
:-)
