Found a signed baseball in my basement...
Unfortunately it's from the 1977 White Sox team.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/1977.shtml
There are some names I've heard of on the ball:
Kevin Bell, Eric Soderholm,Royle Stillman, Lamar Johnson
But the most curious to me is a Steven A. Stone. According to the link above the Steve Stone who played on that team has a middle initial of "M". What does anyone make of that? And, please forgive my ignorance - but is this Steve Stone our former broadcaster?
p.s. there is no MLB logo on the ball, should there be?

I'll ask
I’ll ask my mom. She dated him when he was on The White Sox. I’ll see if she knows…probably won’t but I can ask.

GREAT band name!

Oh, and remember, folks: Alfonso Soriano is NOT batting leadoff. He's batting first.

A little more clicking on that link
and you can go to his personal stat page where it shows his name to be Steve Michael Stone (Stoney). There you can see his career stats that show he was a member of the Cubs the following year. So yes, that’s the Stone you’re thinking of.
Go ahead, Z me.

Maybe it just looks like an "A." but it's really an "M"?

I'll bet it is.
However, check out this ebay auction for just such a ball.
It appears to be a preprinted ball, not actually signed, so the $99.99 price is a pipedream.
Note that it includes “Steven A. Stone” as one of the signers.

bizarre
The A looks nothing like an M. But it HAS to be him as he’s the only Steve or Steven Stone in baseball history (according to http://www.baseball-reference.com)

That's it !!!
Good detective work, Al !!!
I wondered if it were a truly “signed” ball. I thought it was because some of the signatures are smudged and there is some blue haziness around a few.
I don’t get the “A’ Stone though. Maybe a valuable misprint?
What is wierd is that I’ve been in this house 7 yrs and just found it in a old metal desk drawer.

Maybe it was him just fooling around.
That seems likely.

Former Pitcher
He’s also the Steve Stone that is a former Cubs pitcher. Also part of the reason Santo was with the White Sox for a season

Maybe the A is for a nickname.

Aww, those were the days when the Sox were wearing
those “beautiful” leisure suits in games and shorts for batting practice. It made you feel like you were watching a slow pitch softball game.

That was a great summer...
up until about mid-August when the “Southside Hitmen” and “The Little Blue Machine That Could” each fell out of first place and ended the dream of an all Chicago World Series.
And to think it’s only taken 31 years to rekindle that dream!

That's right
Anyone worried about the Sox? Cubs have six games against them within a 10-day period next month.

Not really.
Their hitting can be shut down with good pitching.

But I gather their pitching has been pretty good too

It's been good
but they’re strong point is the amount of grandslams that team seems to hit. Maybe its just me but every time I watch Baseball Tonight they hit another one.

On a related matter....
I found a baseball in my garage and it is signed by Ron Santoh, and in brackets under the name it says (Oh, No!)
First grand here can have it, otherwise it’s going on eBay….
