Bucky is still #1...

...in my heart, hell, a “Jayhawk” isn’t even a real animal…but recent successes have made it difficult. Bucky disappoints me too much – always start out 6-0 or 7-1 with an easy non-conference schedule, and Bo gets his team to a top ten ranking…then they always crash n burn.

Well, I think he gets a lot out of what he’s got. The top recruits aren’t going to go to Madison—in either sport. To get to the top 10 after losing Tucker and Taylor impressed the hell out of me. Definitely didn’t see it coming.

Now, if only the FB team could be consistent. And who will be the QB. . . .

A game thread really isn't the place to hash this out again...

...but fielding percentage is entirely useless, because you can’t make an error if you don’t make it to the baseball, and it’s not an error if the runner beats out your throw. So you can perhaps see why a guy with good hands but poor range and arm would put up a good fielding percentage but not actually be good on defense.

For those of us in LA

they finally fixed the Fox Espanol feed of the game. For some reason, in the top of the 4th, the feed was almost 5 minutes behind. So I watched the rally in Spanish, which was fine. Now I can sync Pat & Ron to the Spanish feed and be back in business. Go Cubs!!

But it is wierd that every half inning of the game, the feed/sync timing changes. Fox is messed up!

We can't win this game without burning up Marmol?

He's burning up Marmol, the best we have.

Save him for tomorrow. Lou is slumping.

Just because Marmol batted

doesn’t mean he’s going to pitch the ninth. He probably will, but I’ve seen Lou and other managers do this with a big lead.

Also he only threw

12 pitches in the 8th

Man, this pisses me off.

I don’t understand Lou’s thinking.

Other relievers need more rest than Marmol?

Seems like a good time to get Gallagher in a ballgame.

Huh, Lou?

game.

NOOO NOT GAME.

give me a break umps.

How did Neifi Perez, Kevin Orie, and Jeremi Gonzalez get Rookie of the League votes in 1997?

by bgsiggy on May 3, 2008 5:37 PM CDT reply actions

glad to see others

are as mystified by the decision to use Marmol for 2 innings let alone at all in this game

Marmol’s thrown 20+ innings already… he’s on pace for nearly 100… this isn’t a good plan for our future

by DartmouthCubsFan on May 3, 2008 5:38 PM CDT reply actions

Didn't the bullpen throw 11 innings yesterday?

Except for Marmol that is?

"Is there anything he can't do?" ~Len Kasper, 4/5/08, on Kosuke Fukudome

by JohnM on May 3, 2008 5:39 PM CDT up reply actions

yes

but we just called up Gallagher who was supposed to start yesterday. He’s completely fresh and should be used when we’re up 6 runs and need 2 innings. If things get hairy, then you bring in Marmol

by DartmouthCubsFan on May 3, 2008 5:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Good point

But trying to guess Lou’s logic, he probably thinks he needs to save Gallagher for a possible long relief stint, since Lieber won’t be available for a few days after yesterday,

by JohnM on May 3, 2008 5:43 PM CDT up reply actions

And Lieber may even be

heading to the rotation

by JohnM on May 3, 2008 5:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Lieber is in the rotation

but Marmol is our most valued young pitching commodity right now. Throwing him this much in meaningless games as Lou has already done twice this year is Dusty-esque

by DartmouthCubsFan on May 3, 2008 5:46 PM CDT up reply actions

you've got Marshall

who can do that as well, if Lou wasn’t so committed to making him a lefty specialist. We have multiple arms capable of going more than 1 inning, this was senseless today

by DartmouthCubsFan on May 3, 2008 5:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

I think he was overreacting to yesterday’s debacle, and feeling like this was a must win, and went to his best guy to guarantee it.

Plus Marshall was warming up.

Why do that if he was not going to come into the game? IMO, Mármol should have been properly rested and not pitch at all today, or at the very least no more than one inning.

Fox sucks but . . .

They did put the last inning on here after the Angels/Orioles.

Lou needs...

...a bit of knocking around by the media today.

Maybe that will wake him up. Fontenot came through, but shit, that lineup sucked today. And Marmol for 2 IP?! WTF.

I missed you all too, especially with the win.

I was calling Northwestern Wildcats @ Illinois Fighting Illini play-by-play on the radio (Illini 14-4, F), but my color commentator was getting text updates on his phone whenever the Cubs scored and I was more than happy to pass them along. Let’s get ‘em again tonight!
