To tape or not to tape...

With the high number of day games the Cubs play combined with a roughly normal working day schedule, I find myself taping a large portion of them to watch later at night. In the age of streaming games, box score updates, ESPN highlights, and almost pitch-by-pitch coverage on this here site the temptation for instant gratification is almost unbearable. However, come game time, I invariably find myslef avoiding anything related to the game like the plague, just hoping I can make it through the day unspoiled. Am I alone?

Not alone

I do the same thing. I ignore all baseball contact during day games praying to get home before someone spills the beans!

Ha

i listen to as much as possible at work and tape the game. I come home and normally have a lot of moments in the game that I would like to regiew. I would say it takes me about an hour to get through the game when I get home.

Great post…..

Watching the recording of the whole game consumes too much time.

Instead, I watch the highlights or the best innings on MLB.com’s archives.

I tape

I have a tendency to keep strange hours so taping is the best option. So far, I’ve managed to remain ignorant of the outcome before viewing at 3 or 4 am. For most of April it was a great way to start the day. It still is, if less gleeful.

Also, I discovered I’m not ambidextrous enough to watch and blog. BCBers boast whizzy fingers, most impressive!

heck...

I record the games even if I am watching them on TV or at the park and then watch them back at a later (sometimes much later date). If they won…I keep the games, if they lose, I just erase them. I have a collection of games that goes back to 1981 and I plug in games from way back to watch when I excercise.

I always know the outcome of games I've recorded

...and, I can see you, like me haven’t given in to a DVR, as of yet. We are so analog! If the Cubs win, I watch the complete game - if it’s a loss - I scan through in a few minutes to see the ‘lowlights,’ then it’s off to a game in real time. (if any are still on in the PST)

I see no reason to dwell over lost games in depth, I have too many other things to do. And - in a strange quirk - every game I have taped, going back to the second game of the Colorado series—the Cubs have lost. I forgot to set the timer for last Saturday, against the Nats. (Win.) Wednesday, I noticed this quirk. I decided not to tape. (Win) There’s no access to the game today in this market. The D-backs are on. Therefore…..no taping. Since I work Sunday night….hmm…

I guess you know what I’m going to do. (I can watch at work…..)

DVR

Try it – you’ll like it…

Seriously – I got one a few years back for a specific gig where I needed 13 hours of quality recording (and had no window for tape changes) and DVD finishing.

Odd how it found its way into my living room shortly thereafter, wouldn’t you say? And I can get really nice quality movies off the digital channels to build my DVD collection.

Stop taping.

Now.

Yes sir.

Will do (or, NOT) so Sunday. Will watch the game at work. (At least ONE newsroom TV can be switched away from Faux News.) However, the “Simpsons’” donut gambit only worked for a short period of time last year….so I’m not taking responsibility….

I record on DVR

but more to see any big plays after my daughter goes to sleep. Sometimes I do so in case I am bored at night since I try to check in to every day game from work.

Calm down.

Ever gone this far to avoid seeing a score?

Back in the old days of taping games on VHS, if I got home before the game was over, I would put post-its all along the top & bottom of my TV, so I wouldn’t accidentally see the score on ESPN, Headline News or any other channel that rotates scores at the bottom or top of the screen, while flipping around looking for something else to watch.

taping

i work 15 hrs a day so taping the game is my only option.even then i do a lot of fast fowarding.i need to condense a 3 hr game into 45 minutes.not fun.but i,ll see all 3 games against the rays when they come here in june.vacation time at the trop with the cubs. cool

by NOMAR on May 4, 2008 8:26 AM CDT reply actions

I tape alot of night games and watch them the next morning

I can fast forawrd through the commercials. That condenses that game into 1 1/2 hours easily!

The 100th time has GOT to be a charm...

by cubswgnrocks on May 4, 2008 10:09 AM CDT reply actions

Even watching a game live

I’ll save it to the box and start watching 20 minutes late just so i can FF the commercials. There are several in the rotation I detest and a few that I love (Lou’s water commercial and that Miller delivery man tops among the best).
