Minor League Wrap -- May 3
Iowa Cubs
Josh will post a first-hand account of the game at Sacramento later.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies lost big to Jacksonville, 10-1. Mitch Atkins took the loss. The sixth inning was a comedy of errors, including a dropped ball on a forceout attempt at home. The Smokies only managed five hits.
Daytona Cubs
Daytona also lost , 5-2 to Fort Myers. Jonathan Wyatt had two doubles and a run scored. Others with two hits include Adduci, Lalli, and Barney. Adam Harben struggled, giving up five runs on 4BB and 6H in 4.2 innings, with only 3 Ks. Darin Downs was solid in relief, as was Casey Lambert.
Peoria Chiefs
Ryno's squad salvaged the day for the organization, beating South Bend 4-3. Dylan Johnston hit his third homer, and Blake Parker got the win with 2.1 innings of relief. Parker induced a grounder to second with the bases loaded and two out in the fifth, and then struck out three hitters over the next two innings.

Colvin and Harvey are really struggling right now...
Colvin: 112 AB, .214/.273/.357 (.630 OPS), 5 2B, 3 HR, 29/7 K/BB rate.
Harvey: 81 AB .235/.281/.407 (.688 OPS), 5 2B, 3 HR, 28/3 K/BB rate.
I’m not too surprised by Harvey – he’s doing basically what he did last year. But Colvin’s struggles so far are a concern. Fox (.202 AVG, .676 OPS) and Fuld (.200 AVG, .579 OPS) aren’t doing so hot either. Something bad must be in the minor league water in Iowa and Tennessee…
And is there any word as to why Murton hasn’t played in Iowa yet? Has he even reported to Iowa?

Players have 72 hours to report.
I’m guessing he hasn’t reported yet.

You mean
the Sam Fuld that some people wanted as the Cubs starting centerfielder?

Yup... that's the one...
It just goes to show you that Arizona Fall League stats can be misleading.

I realized that Cotts...
is really pitching pretty good. If the Cubs have some bullpen issues they could call him up. A lot of people forget about his good years with the white-sox.

Well, that's his "good year".
2005 was his only good year. We’re still waiting for him to replicate that.

Agreed...
if he could replicate that one good season, it could do wonders for our bullpen depth.
