Summer get together?

Anyone game for a summer get together downtown?

I was thinking of ideas something not too pricey so more people can go and during a game we could all watch on tv at the place,   Obviously tickets to a game for everyone might be hard to do,

Giordanos might be a good choice.  We had a large get together there last fall and got out food, appetizers and non alcoholic drinks and tip for 14 a person,  We orderd a mess of pizzas and appetizers.

If we plan enough in advance perhaps some out of towners could make it,  If we had enough people for hotels we might be able to swing a deal.

I'm looking for an excuse...

Hell

we could have it in the backyard of the house I’m trying to buy. We’ll hook up my stereo, put the speakers outside…

away game...

i think it would be a great idea for an away game…everyone get together at a sports bar or something…i am sure something could be worked out with a small sports bar.

as a side note any cubs fans on here from NE iowa? Maybe some night we could all meet up. It is always great to put a face with a name you see on here all the time

by bleed that blue on May 31, 2008 2:25 AM CDT reply actions

I'm also in

Why do you suggest downtown, though? Because it’s likely to be less crowded during a game? Just curious.

I think if we choose an away game, we could get away with meeting somewhere in Wrigleyville. During a home stand, though, someplace a bit farther away may be more convenient.

I suggest having a few polls in a series of FanPosts to gather some data on when/where would be best for everyone. Unfortunately, you can’t have more than one poll question per FanPost [WTF, SB Nation?], so it will take multiple FPs.

If you want help, let me know. I’ve actually organized get-togethers like this in the past.

Madison fans

I’ve seen a few Madison fans on here too.. if anyone wants to get together to watch one of the Cubbie games on national TV, i’m down.

More

I picked downtown because it seemed everyone would have the easiest time getting there mostly by L or train.

It is the Giordanos by the Sears Tower.

Another suggestion might be Gameworks if we wanted to do it in the burbs in Schaumburg.

We are all waiting for that glorious October night when we finally win it all. Until then we will continue to cheer, never do the wave and hope.

I much prefer downtown

I’m biased because I live down here

by Emelie on Jun 1, 2008 4:46 PM CDT up reply actions

I think its also easiest to get to for everyone.

If people are interested in coming in and putting together a weekend though I actually suggest we get rooms up here in the near nw burbs because you pay 1/3rd of the price for a clean not fancy room and we could all hop on the el or metra,

thats what we did last october with my friends,. we stayed in des plaines walked over to the metra. rooms were something like 140 for 2 nights, even i stayed overnight to have more fun with the group,

I am down

I could also hook up hotels at a very cheap price for out of towners that isnt far from chicago

I would love it!

We would have to wear name tags with our real names and our screen names though so we could know who everyone is

I think it would be kind of fun to just have our real names and try and figure out who everyone is!

I would be in for this

I make roughly 2 trips to Chicago each season to see the Cubs. Would love to plan a trip around an event like this. Keep me informed.

I'll be in town

for my nephew’s wedding from Sept. 4 to 8. Cubs are out of town (stupid planning by my nephew) so a get together to watch a Cubs game would be great. Could only make it for Thursday Sept. 4th or Sunday Sept. 7th. So probably not to likely this get together will be held at this time but thought I’d mention it.

We will be in town July 30 - Aug 5

Going to 2pm show of Jersey Boys the 1st and Pirates game on the 2nd. Wow, we finally get to play the Pirates!!!

during the summer Brats isnt as crowded w/ the students out

If you pick a Saturday afternoon game you likely wont have that problem. Even during the week most of the college kids don’t go out until 9 or 10 pm (or atleast that is how it use to be)

Pooleys way on the east side plays multiple games. Someone mentioned the Old Chicago on Mineral Point plays it. (that I havent had a chance to check out yet)

Maybe Bluemike

Will bring us his varsity letter to look at, then we can kiss his feet for his great knowledge of the game and lack of ability to admit an injury prone pitcher isnt worth trading “the farm” for.

and with any luck, he'll bring Rich Harden to be our guest speaker for the evening

Shouldn’t be too hard to arrange, seeing as how Harden will most likely be on the DL anyway…

I'll offer my 1/2 acre back yard again,

if people want. I should be in the new home by August.

That would be cool.

I was actually thinking of hosting it at my house. But there’s a reason I am unable to host or not up to hosting one at home this summer (nothing terrible but something I’m not ready to reveal yet)

Nanika Ga Okoru!

Oh, and remember, folks: Alfonso Soriano is NOT batting leadoff. He's batting first.

I'll probably be there for at least one, probably two.

Looking at the Wed night/Thurs afternoon games.
