Sean Gallagher...really bad hitter

I was looking through Gallagher's statistics on Baseball Reference and saw that he only has 1 career hit in 58 proffessional at bats...a single with Double A Tennessee last year. He's struck out 36 times in those 58 at bats.  Let's hope he has a great pitching  game Sunday against the Rockies :)

As long as he pitches well

and can put down a decent bunt when asked, he’s fine with me.

And your point is?

Most pitchers are crappy hitters. As long as he can shut down the Rockies with his pitching, who cares?

How about just touching home more often

Do we play Rockies AAA team? If so, a lot of these players might know Gallagher more than we realize.

Can't sleep either, eh?

Nanika Ga Okoru!

Oh, and remember, folks: Alfonso Soriano is NOT batting leadoff. He's batting first.

Just thought it was interesting

I think 1 for 58 is a little worse than the average bad hitter…maybe I’m easily amused.

were just spoiled

because we have a good hitting pitching staff

by cubsmania on Jun 1, 2008 12:41 AM CDT up reply actions

We are very spoiled...

Zambrano is one of the best hitting pitchers in the game. He takes it very seriously also. What other pitcher do you know that is unhappy with three homers in a season and promises more?

Ummmm

flash: Pitchers don’t have to hit in the NL.

They don't?

Since when?

technically, SDSJM is right

they don’t have to hit. All they have to do is stand in the batter’s box when it’s their turn. Of course, not everyone can be Eddie Gaedel though, so it would behoove them to be able to do something with the bat on occasion…

They can hit

They’re just not expected to unless you have someone like Micah Owings or, in our case, Z and occasionally Marquis.

gallagher

still not sold on sean.he seems to last about 4 innings before the other team figures him out. we,ll see today if im wrong.would be nice if he steps up like dempster

by NOMAR on Jun 1, 2008 8:46 AM CDT reply actions

I think that'll get better

as he learns to adjust to the hitters the second (and hopefully third) time through the order. Change speeds, location, pitch selection, etc. Almost all pitchers have to learn this when the come up to the bigs.

by inukjim on Jun 1, 2008 8:27 PM CDT up reply actions

We have other

players who can make up for his lack of production at the plate if he can pitch like we need him to.

by sue369 on Jun 1, 2008 10:55 AM CDT reply actions

But he can lay down a bunt

Which is what I expect from most starting pitchers
Rich Hill can’t hit OR lay down a bunt
