Does Anyone Else Think Ozzie Guillen Isn't Fit To Be An MLB Manager?
After his latest rant, I am really starting to think this guy isn't fit for the MLB he is so irrational and unprofessional it's almost comical. I know Lou has his occasional outbursts but, nothing compared to this guy, who is basically getting asked the very same questions as Lou, here is the link to his latest rant:

Yeah, he’s an idiot.
Speaking of things that I am wondering if anyone else noticed- anyone else wonder why the record on the front page is wrong? It says 18-12, but we’re 18-13….I first noticed it was wrong before yesterday’s game at 18-11. Strange.

Ozzie
Thinks of no one but himself. He is saying what every manager thinks although they have what most people have, censorship.
He can talk and yell and talk and yell-—---too bad he isnt in a profession that gets you fired for that crap you know like every profession that isnt related to sports.
Its tired and not funny and tends to do nothing in terms of pumping his players up. They made a good point on the radio this morning that he went off about how its not the hitting coaches fault yada yada…...If its not the hitting coaches fault why still keep him around if he doesnt have an impact.
Same story differnt day. In fact, Kenny Williams, Ozzie and Jerry R are pefect for each other.

My feeling is...
... that sometime this year, Ozzie will say or do something and Kenny will have no choice but to fire him, even though he just gave him an extension last year.
Just waiting for the explosion.

Very well could happen...
...but I don’t pay a lot of attention to Ozzie, because he is simply off the charts.
It’s hard to say how good a manager he really is, but I personally don’t give him much credit for what they did in 05. That team won because they had the best pitching in the AL, and they hit a ton of homeruns (Earl Weaver would have loved that team)

Crazy like a fox?
(1) People are talking about him, and not his just-swept players.
(2) There is some truth to his Cubs-ranting, isn’t there?
Not saying that his rants are morally correct, but I don’t think he is stupid. I’d even guess that he is actually quite calculating about when he goes off.

I was in the process of posting a rant of my own...
...about whether there was any truth in Ozzie’s Cubs-obsessed ranting when it occured to me that maybe, maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt. What I mean is it’s entirely possible that reporters keep mentioning the Cubs to him during interviews and it’s leading him to responses like the ones referred to in the posted article. I hate to sound like I’m defending Guillen, because I’m not a big fan of his either, but it was just a thought.

I don't think
that his tirade even warrents comment. I think that he may be mentally unbalanced and giving him an audience for this stuff just eggs him on. Let’s just move on to something important. Now, I really believe that Dome should be leading off and Sori should hit sixth and Cedeno should…......

Oh, he's fit...
I recall even from my old Andy Frain days talking with him as a player, and he always had the mind, and generally the respect of those in the game; especially players. So, I think he’s a decent manager. What’s comical though is that he has always been one of the most outspoken, opinionated people in Chicago media, so I laugh whenever he has these public outcries about sports fans and what they think.
He really needs a fine and a suspension though before this totally comes off the rails. And is that the same son running around drunk in Chicago clubs most of the time? Now that’s funny.

His comments are also a chilling reminder...
...of how “Cubs focused” he is. Exactly who is saying the Cubs are the “best”? And what does the “celebration” of Lee Elia’s rant have to do with anything?
His reaction reminds me of something I’ve encountered on many occasions with Sox fans. As soon as things start going down for their team, they take out their frustrations on the Cubs. Why? It’s completely irrational and rather sad—like some guy who’s pissed off at his wife and kids so he goes next door and punches his neighbor.

Yeah.
The profanity and the ranting…that’s just Ozzie being Ozzie, but I didn’t get the Cubs remark at all. Pinella’s been on blast for a week about Theriot, Fontenot, Hill, and Soriano. It’s kind of sad how, just 3 years removed from a WS title, Ozzie (and not a few Sox fans) still seems obsessed with the Cubs and their fanbase.

I've heard much the same thing from SOME Sox fans.
Let me be clear, before Dr Crawdad pops in here, that I don’t tar ALL Sox fans with this brush.
But yes, I have heard, far too many times when the Sox are having trouble, them trying to blame it all on the Cubs, or to yell their all-encompassing mantra, “Cubs suck!”
You’d think they’d have moved on from this after they won the World Series, but I guess not.

Yeah, I stop short of tarring all of them.
In fact, one of my best friends is a Sox fan and he, his brothers, and I manage just fine. I even dated a Sox fan! That said, I went to the Cubs game on the 30th, and had two Sox fans sit next to me and root, quite loudly, for the Brewers. They stayed until the 7th inning stretch had begun and left. How ironic.

Ive heard the same from some sox fans but not all just as you said
As soon as things go south for their team they start turning their attention to the Cubs. For me I watch the sox, only because I love baseball but I still want them to win because they represent this great city of ours. The only time I hope they lose is when they play us, plain and simple other than that I could care less.

He certainly is concerned with the Cubs
But he has always been that way. I’m not sure why exactly, but the Cubs are in his head. He had a lot to say about Lee Elia in that piece – maybe he is just jealous because, no matter how many tirades Ozzie puts out there, he will never come close to the greatness of the Lee Elia remarks. I mean, Elia had it all – anger, exasperation, insults, and just the right sprinkling of profanity – no way Ozzie could ever top that, right?
I also am amazed that this tirade was PRE-GAME, not post-game as I had initially assumed when I first heard about it. I can see being emotional and angry after a tough loss, but before the team even takes the field?

That's a good point.
You would think Ozzie would have gone off on reporters after the team lost its FIFTH GAME IN A ROW.
That’s one thing I’ve been focusing on to keep my spirits up about the Cubs—so far at least, this team has been able to keep itself out of extended losing streaks. That hot April is really coming in handy.

Disagree
I think Ozzie needs to stay in baseball. I missed the rant, so I appreciate the chance to read it. I’m always entertained when Ozzie goes off the rails. Without arguing the merits of him as a manager (and I think he’s above average), I enjoy having him explode every once in a while. Baseball is built on a long history of characters, and Ozzie certainly qualifies.
Of course, I’m not a White Sox fan, so it doesn’t bother me knowing that my team’s manager is crazy.

Oh, god ...

So, let’s look at the facts…

1st place from game 1 to game 162
11-1 post-season
Sweep of the World Series
‘06 Sox
90 wins

Conveniently ignoring THESE facts..
... they nearly blew a 15.5 game lead, which would have been the biggest blown lead ever;
... that they DID get some help from the umpires;
... that the four WS games were all close and all four of them could have gone the other way.

Nearly, almost, could have…but didn’t!
... that they DID get some help from the umpires;
And what about the blown call in Houston where the umps gave Houston a HR when it was a not (and it was clearly a bad call, not judgement)?
The Sox were the best team in MLB in ‘05, if some Cubbie fans think they “got lucky” and/or the umps gave it to them, well it’s just bitter jealousy.

If not, then who?
by DrCrawdad on May 6, 2008 6:42 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
No reply...
... to my direct question.
Why do Cubbie fans insist on saying the Sox “got lucky” or that the umps gave it to the Sox?
It’s bitter envy and jealousy. That and these Cubbie fans just want to take a bit off the shine of that World Championship Trophy.
And the only person who responded was the foul-mouth who buried his answer after another personal attack. And even at that the slime merchant said, “They have just kinda sucked ass since.” The Sox followed their 99 wins with 90 wins. 90 wins “sucks ass”?
When was the last time the Cubbies had back to back seasons of 90+ wins?

Say what you want, I gave credit to the Sox for their 05 season and my “sucking ass” comment was referring to the greater portion of their play since. If you cannot admit that, you are as bad as people who cannot give any credit to the Sox for their play in 05.
And once again, your post makes you look lika an absolute imbecile because all you ever do is call me a “foul mouth” “slime merchant” and so many other names that so accurately describe you too.

Ozzie
I used to like Ozzie quite a bit… especially when he was a player. Today, I honestly can’t stand him. I though MLB was supposed to be about “professional” baseball? If a player/coach/manager/owner blew up once or twice, to me, thats no big deal. Ozzie seems to have made a bad habit of this, especially when his team needs some attention. If somebody hasn’t yet told him where that line is, the one he cannot cross, then eventually, he is going to cross it and will be fired. When this happens, he might have a hard time ever getting back into a managerial position again… hopefully, he’ll chill out, get some meds to calm him down, and keep a bar of soap nearby to keep his mouth clean.

when the idiots continue to ask him the same questions that the idiots keep asking Piniella, they get what they deserve and that’s to be treated like the unintelligent morons that they are. Just keep in mind that you're likely in the minority
when it comes to Cub fans. You go out and do your own research, work out what statistically would the best lineup, matchups, etc. I’d say it stands to wager that not many baseball fans do that type of work. So what is a moronic/painfully obvious question to you probably isn’t such a question to the average fan. However, I will grant you that the sports media in this town loves to instigate and they know how to push buttons. Ozzie’s just playing right into their hands with this type of malarkey. They wanted this reaction and they got it. It’s lazy, infantile journalism; it’s just sad that few people recognize it as such.

Or that the commercials for the Sox games where doofuses hold up signs for the individual players feature shots of Ozzie in the dugout… well, just sitting there, occasionally looking around or nodding his head? WTF?
I mean the Sox have some great young talent. Can’t they sell tickets using the players on the field?

Who cares...
Worrying about Ozzie Guillen is as productive as worrying about Dusty Baker in Cincinnati. Who cares.

The only thing wrong with this post is the title.
You win a world series, you must being doing something right. I can’t stand Ozzie Guillen, but he sadly did bring up so good points…in between his sailor talk of course.

The Sox didn't win the WS because of Ozzie.
In many ways, they won the WS in spite of Ozzie.

Yes, Ozzie is crazy...
...but once again I refer the readers here to the best columnist in Chicago Sports, Barry Rozner. He hits on the head – once again – regarding Ozzie’s rants and Lou’s pseudo-rants. He carefully starts out with comparisons between cotton candy and shark attacks then nails it.

Read it, read it carefully. Because Rozner has some very, very interesting points regarding our favourite LF’er and how Lou is approaching it.

Pointed humor
But nothing gets more attention than a shark attack, with the possible exception of prepackaged managerial rants in Chicago, which, for the love of Herman Franks and all that’s holy, we should be quite used to by now.If anything, we ought to be entertained by them.
Thanks for pointing out that column!
He can’t say, “We spent $137 million on a guy who can’t field a single position among the available eight…“Furthermore, I’d very much like to replace him in the eighth inning with someone who bothered to bring a glove to the ballpark today…
Funny stuff!
