Jacques Jones released by Tigers
Per MLB Trade Rumors, Jones has been released by the Tigers. He'll be replaced on the active roster by minor leaguer Matt Joyce.
I can't help but feel bad for Jones. He was in the dog house with Cubs fans before he'd ever even picked up a bat. While it was a pretty bad signing at the time by Hendry, he seems like a good guy who didn't deserve the treatment he received.
I'm sure he'll get a job somewhere though - San Diego is the obvious choice; maybe a Dusty Baker reunion to replace the struggling Patterson.

the league figured out Jones
He seemed to jam himself, and his hand’s slowed down

Yeah, I kind of feel bad for him too
I can’t help but chuckle at the thought of a Dusty-Jones reunion. While it makes NO sense for cincy to sign him, when does Dusty’s managerial decisions ever make sense? I can see him asking for it, “Hey Walt Dude, how about picking up jones…he can take Juniors spot? What do ya say Man Dude?”

It wont be with Cincy
But I know Jacque will get a job. If Craig Monroe has a job Jacquestrap does
BTW, random thought. Did Jacque become a great athlete/ballplayer because he was constantly teased growing up by being called Jacquestrap….???

kinda.....
Guess I’m old school (which stands to reason because, well, I’m old) because I agree that Jacque was treated too harshly. But I certainly don’t miss Jacque getting doubled off second base constantly and those 10ft throws he used to make. He made some catches in CF but he was just a bad fit here from the beginning. Dusty would love him—he doesn’t “clog the bases”!!!!

Actually...
I could honestly see him spending some time this season in San Diego.

I wish ...
the best for Jacque Jones. I wish he was still on the Cubs.

I wouldn't go as far as wishing Jacque was still here.
But I wish him the best and hope he’s able to end his career on his own terms instead of being forced out. He always gave a good effort, and he had some big hits for the team in the second half of last season.

Jones
Cub fans threw this guy under the bus before he ever had a chance. All I know is that I’d much, much, much, much rather be “saddled” with a 3 year, $16 million contract for a complementary ballplayer in Jones then a 8 year, $136 million contract for a sulking guess hitting hack in Soriano.

Honestly...
Who isn’t on your sh*t list at the moment? I think you’ve taken shots at the entire team over the last few days. And I’m serious, by the way. I’d really like to know.

This is the dumbest thing you've ever posted.
By far.

Gary...
It’s happy hour. Go have a Scotch and relax. You seem a little extra annoyed today.
Oh, and did you catch the Joe Morgan gem last night? “Left handed pitchers tend to fall off toward the first base side.”? Awesome.

Don't pay attention
to what MDBNIU says about Soriano, I think he left him at the alter on their wedding day or something. Because he holds a huge grudge against Soriano, and will bash him every chance he gets, even if it makes no sense.

I'm on my way.
I did catch that. I was so shocked it took me a minute to fully grasp that he had actually said it as if it were analysis. I’m off to the local. Cheers, Damen.

Well it took me a while
but I have finally figured you out MDBNIU.
I really don’t even think you yourself believe 90% of the stuff that you write here, what you do is you figure out what the majority opinion is on the given topic on this site and then you take the exact opposite view just to stir sh!t up.
While I’m certain that you don’t like Soriano, I don’t believe that you would actually rather have Jones than Soriano.

I'd say it's a draw.
Pierre wasn’t strong enough to throw the ball to the infield. Jacque was, but he always threw it straight into the ground instead.

way some Cub fans treated him. I wish him the best.

I blame this on the Cubs front office
Jones signing was a head scratcher, a guy who didn’t aleviate the Cubs problems but rather exacerbated them. I believe Cubs fans had had enough and would let the front office know that either they go in a different direction or they were going to boo their signings out of town. The Cubs fans were responsible for getting Patterson out of the leadoff spot and I don’t blame them. It’s obvious that it wasn’t Jones’ fault that the Cubs signed a player that didn’t fit or Patterson for being penciled in the lineup and the leadoff spot. You expect to have better management that understands that Patterson had to be moved and Jones’ shouldn’t have been signed. However, that’s not what we had. The only weapon the fans have is their “boos” and while they might have gotten out of hand I’d rather have that than the fans simply accept bone headed decisions by managment and do nothing about it.

Jones
First off, according to the ESPN transaction wire he’s been designated for assignment. He might ultimately be released but the Tigers could seek some type of trade where they eat most of the salary and land some minor prospect.
Jones came into a situation that truely was not good for him. He was signed to a fairly decent deal so fans expected a #5/6 hitter, when at the time of the deal, writers in Minneapolis said that he was best suited for the #7 spot. The player the Cubs got was the player he was with the Twins, but Hendry overpaid and put Jones into a spot where more would be expected than he was capable of.
Baker didn’t help, either, batting him where he didn’t belong and making him another pawn in Baker’s race relations game.

Exactly
Like I said above “baaaaaaaaaa” —- whoops that is my now new post for MDBNIU - I meant “I know Jacque will get a job”
A team will pick him up.
BTW—-the score aside this is a good ballgame. Its great when you see a lot of things you never really see….love it….come on, lets get back in the game.

while I never
boo’d Jones, he’s a bum and would not make this years roster.
Good riddance.

pick him up! there’s our lefty leadoff hitter!
he was a fun one when he got hot for a while with the pink bat and ridiculously bad arm, too bad he pretty much sucks.

I met Jacques Jones a few times
And despite everything he went through here, he was still a really nice guy. I hope he finds a home…but outside our division

“He was in the dog house with Cubs fans before he’d ever even picked up a bat”
I dont think we were down on him that quick. It was before he ever even got on base. It was awhile though. Started 0-16. lol But then hit a HR to help sweep the Cards…

Has anybody else noticed
that Jones is in this years WGN Cubs promos? Surely somebody at WGN should have noticed that he isn’t with the team anymore.

The Cubs got great effort from Jones...
...but I don’t feel sorry for him now. He got a great contract from the Cubs, made millions, and is on the decline. This seems normal to me. I think he will get another shot with someone this season. A really tough competitor—good luck to him.
