OT: Wayne Larrivee and Tom Dore out...

I figure a good majority of people here are Bulls fans as well so maybe this will interest you.  It appears long time Bulls announcers Wayne Larrivee and Tom Dore are out, and Johnny Red Kerr is going to have his role reduced to only pre-game and half-time coverage.  Neil Funk is supposed to switch from radio to TV.

I'm personally sad to see them go, I grew up listening to these guys back during the Jordan-era.  I could understand Kerr's role reducing as he is getting older; he was basically just a bystander on the telecasts anyway the past few years.

Here's the article:

Sounds like Santo

But yea i def agree, im gonna miss those familiar voices that we heard so much during the Jordan era.

Hopefully soon we can get the Mike Da’ntoni (sp) era started soon.

GOOD

I am indifferent on Larrivee and Dore, but definately limit Red Kerr. He is getting older and he calls it like a fan. He is slowly turning into a horrible version of Ron Santo

NOW you think he calls it like a fan?

You should watch some of the highlight vids from the NBA finals in the early 90s. The guy makes Ron Santo look like Vin Scully.

I never liked Dore much.

The Bulls broadcasts were never quite the same after they dumped Jim Durham.

I wonder if Funk could make the transition...

To TV smoothly? On the radio it seems like he’s going a mile-a-minute to keep up with the action sometimes; I wonder how that will translate to TV. I think Stacey King is staying (who I like, he’s funny most of the time), so we’ll see if they mesh well.

So

Last year it was Johnny Red Kerr, Tom Dore and Stacey King on Comcast. But on WGN it was usually Johnny Red Kerr and Wayne Larrivee. So is it going to be Stacey King and Neil Funk on Comcast and WGN, or are they going to use Neil Funk and somebody else on WGN?

I really liked Dore

It seems like I am one of the few, but I always enjoyed him working with Stacey King. The fact that he was a Mizzou Tiger probably doesn’t hurt. Hopefully he can get himself another NBA play-by-play job quickly.

you bulls fan

dont need to be wishing for d’antoni!!! you need to start begging for avery johnson. this guy is the real deal. dallas was a bunch of prima donnas who thought they were more than they were. bulls for the most part are a younger talented team and he seems to fit like a glove to me. i really hope he dont end up in ny.

Chicago announcer purge

Quite a few changes in store for next season. I’m just fine with getting rid of Larrivee, but I thought Dore was pretty good, and Dan Kelly did a great job paired up with Eddie Olczyk for the Hawks.

On a slightly related note, I got MLB.tv and was watching a D-Backs broadcast the other day. The horror stories are true—and it isn’t just Grace. It’s as though the entire booth wants to pretend there isn’t a baseball game going on. Kasper and Brenly really have blossomed into one of the most competent outfits out there in terms of calling a good game.

Larriveeisms Wayne got fired by:

-Wayne, this decision was made by the slimmest of margins
-Wayne, your severence check is in the mail RING IT UP!
-Wayne, we’re firing you but keeping the much elder Johnny Red Kerr AND THERE IS THE DAGGER!

haha I think I had too much fun with that. oh and a shame about Dore. It was nice to brag to friends about having the tallest TV in the history of man.

Dead on.

I’m sad to see Larrivee go but I understand that it’s much easier to have just one PBP guy. I actually miss him as the Bears’ radio guy but I think Joniak’s done pretty well for himself since taking over (“Devin Hester, You are Ridiculous!”) Plus the guy does it all, he’s also the Packers radio guy and does Big Ten football, I wouldn’t be surprised if also does cricket games somewhere in India. I’m eager to see if Funks radio skills translate well to TV though. KABOOM! And who is Bill Swersky, b/c if he’s anything like Bill Brasky, then I think we’re in for a treat. I just pray the Bulls make some noise next year.

I saw this also

on CSN.

Funk is very good – but if you have seen him, he really does have a face for radio (serious luggage under his eyes!).

Stacy King, the other team member on TV, imo, is a joy to listen to. Great sense of humor (which helped during this season, let me tell ya), and of course very knowledgeable about the team and basketball as a former player and coach. AND – he was on the floor for the greatest come back in a Bulls Championship Game 6. “Kaboom”!

I like Stacey too.

Nothing was said about Kendall Gill. I like him too.

Hes a good annoucner

I worked with him a little when I was at Libertyville Sports Complex. He was a GREAT coach to a 18 AAU but a real ass
