Interesting Observation - MIL 4th in Central
While this is probably largely due to the Cardinals playing .600ish baseball over the last couple weeks and everyone else pretty much sucking, they now have a 3 game lead over the Cubs and Milwaukee has dropped to 4th in the NL Central.
Yes I know its a LONG season. I know its a Marathon, not a Sprint. But who do you think will be there in September? I think it will come down to the Cardinals and the Cubs. Again. We have two of the game's best managers going head to head in Piniella and La Russa. Yost will manage the brewers out of contention, I think.
What are *your* predictions for the shape of the NL Central in September?

Can we please get through May first?
With the way we’re playing this week I can’t even think about September for a while…

At the start of the season, I thought the Brewers were
our main competition. Now not so much.
No matter what people think, the Cardinals always seem to overachieve and I think they’re going to be in this until the end. NEVER count out a Tony LaRussa managed team.

I Think The Cardinals Will Be Ther Unitl The End...
... end of June, that is…
Jacque Jones is gone, and I doubt Ivan DeJesus would mind this!

I truly believe the Cards will drop off as they have done in the past.
I know they look good but a hot start usually makes me more nervous than an average one or even a slow one.
Kinda the same way that when the Cubs pour on a huge win, I worry about the next day. More often than not, depending on the team they are playing, they drop the next game and I find myself saying, “why couldn’t they have saved some production for today!”
Calm down.

Speculation is fun but...
ITS MAY, and ESPN does enough speculation for my taste, even if it is just the yankees and the sox. As i learned, try to stay away from topics like these, they tend to rub “Bleed Cubbie Blue” purists the wrong way. Line up suggestions are a bad idea too…

This is supposed to be a fan site to talk/speculate about the Cubs
I’m not sure who these “purists” are but. since I didn’t see a set of rules about what we can or can’t talk about, I say everythings worth discussing. If people don’t like or are bored with a thread, there are plenty of others.

I dont wanna step on toes
but thats the reception i received from some other bloggers, who told me to read other stuff before i post on a dead topic. Just trying to keep variety alive and keep the everyday-trade him- demote him- switch these guys- what the hell lou?soriano/pie? lets get dave roberts posts to a relative minimum.

I know what you mean.
Sometimes it seems like there are a few too many people ready to jump down somebody’s throat if they don’t like th epost or feel it’s been covered too much. But it’s only one post. If I see a post I don’t find interesting, etc., I just ignore it and look for one that gets me more excited.
We shouldn’t be afraid to post/speculate-that’s what free speech is supposed to be about.

Top 3 posts to get popular
For anyone new, here are the top 3 things I’ve noticed that can get you popular on here.
1) Bash Ryan Theriot
2) Strongly dislike Jason Marquis unless he has 2 quality starts in a row.
3) You are never allowed to say anything bad about Wood no matter how many blown saves he has.

Gee, I thought the stars and stripes
were still flying overhead.
Bash all you want, just back it up with facts. Not that you do that ak123, but anyone just saying, “this guy sucks” isn’t very informative.
Hell, I never wanted Soriano in the first place. When he played that BS on the Nats in ‘06 ST, I told my colleague – who was antsy to get him – I was glad he wasn’t doing that with the Cubs. Maybe I spoke too soon, eh?

Facts
I was just stating my observations on here. I actually will always back up with stats, which is why I’m not on the Theriot bash train. Soriano on the other hand…I don’t want to get into why I don’t like him tonight.

Brewers are in big trouble
Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart WILL hit. They are a highly gifted and special quartet of young talent. The problem for the Brewers though rests in three areas.
1. The loss of Yovani Gallardo will prove devastating. Gallardo is one of the most exciting young pitchers in the game and losing him is a big, big blow.
2. A terrible bullpen. Doug Melvin horribly miscalculated. The Brewers have payroll limitations, yet he foolishly went out and overpaid for Eric Gas-can-ne (former roid boy), Guillermo Mota (another former roid boy), Dave Riske and the ancient Soloman Torres.
3. Ned Yost is terrible. I think the Brewers are close to having a player mutiny on their hands. Yost suffers from Scott Skiles disease in that he has zero personality and stuck in his ways. Don’t be surprised if Yost if fired in a matter of weeks.

Geovany Soto
Soto has made a believer out of me and deserves a shot of being the guy in the 5th slot to protect Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee. And drive in runs. The Cubs can probably live with Soriano hacking away in the # 6 hole. And he might actually be a pretty good run producer in that slot.
1. Theriot / Johnson
2. Kosuke
3. Lee
4. Ramirez
5. Soto
6. Soriano
7. DeRosa
8. Johnson / Pie
