Cubbie Gnome Round Up

These little guys may be the cutest piece of ceramic ever created.  My gnome came yesterday, I saw others got their's over the weekend.  This is the place to name your gnome.

Star-divide

Mine is named after the great Cub pitcher and World Series champion, Orval Overall the Second.  Seriously, it's perfect.  He is wearing little patched overalls and everything.

Be part of the gnome army here.

*This is my first ever fan post--I know it's not super substantive or anything, but it seemed fun and I was curious who else had gnomes/what their names were. :)

Great Fan Post!

I guess I started this cult lol…

Mine is named Mordecai Centennial McBacon… Mordecai because he has 3 fingers (kind of) and I have a Jewish background… McBacon because one of my friends likes adding ‘Mc’ to everything and he was there when I bought him on Memorial Day… and ‘Bacon’ because my other friend was screaming Bacon pretty much that whole game… she is a little crazy…

The centennial part came after the fact, but I thought it was too perfect to pass up, so I added it in there. I just got a house this past weekend so I was able to put my garden gnome out in the garden!

Awesome!!

I love the “McBacon” part. He will bring your garden luck. :)

ah yes, Mordecai!

I think these gnomes are cool! When I saw Mordecai the other night on the game thread I thought it would be great to have one. I am sure gonna get one. Can’t wait for the local Tiger Fans to see this….. hehehehe….. Do they have one with the middle finger sticking up? :) Thanks for sharing this info. Just a question…. Bacon?!!! wassup with that? Again, thanks!

We had a long weekend camping...

And went to the game on Monday. While we were camping we made bacon and it was delicious. That weekend we pretty much decided bacon was the best thing ever. It was capped by the fact that it was a hippy festival, and we saw these toys at one of the vendors…

And they also had a Bacon pendant that was purchased. Anyways, at the game we were all chanting bacon to Soriano. Good times.

And dude, it’s bacon!

drat! I was going to buy one at the Sears Tower the other day

.. when I was ohhhh so fleetingly in town with inlaws who wanted to see the sights. They were from Tennessee and had never been to a city as large. The gift shop at the Sears Tower “Love From Chicago” had them.

Also had a whole bunch of 2007 Cubs NL Central champ T’s at a REAL good price .. discounted big time to move them.

How much the gnome was, I didn’t know. We didn’t notice they had them until we’d bought our Cub stuff and were walking out and past the glassed in shop. I will be back to get them.

I think MLB.com has them. I will never give them business again after my sour forays with them, though .. try Wrigleyville Sports or any of the links on the sidebars here.

Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!

Where to buy a gnome

The usual places to buy Cubs stuff online – Wrigleyville Sports, Cubworld, etc – can’t keep them in stock. I bought mine on Amazon a few days ago. At that time, the only vendor selling it was the first one listed, so I can’t vouch for the credibility of the cheaper one. My gnome did arrive way earlier than the estimated delivery date, for what it’s worth.

Also, a book about Mordecai Brown shows up in the above Amazon search for Cubs gnome. Quite the odd coincidence, considering GoCubbies34 and I each named ours Mordecai.

Here’s a pic of mine. The weather’s been so crummy I haven’t been able to take pictures of him outside yet.

Just looked on EBAY

cheapseats is selling (has 10 or so left) for $24.95 + $5.50 S/H. No bidding, just buy.

Here’s the link if anyone’s interested:

Just ordered me a gnome from Amazon

I have no idea what to name it and am open to any suggestions.

Are these guys expected to be pretty weather resistant? or do we need to bring them in if it starts raining?

My FukuGnome is on its way

My Dome Gnome is coming for Father’s Day.

Can someone post a picture of the back? I hope to paint the name and “1” on the back.

At the start of the year we also bought our first new Japanese car, a Honda Fit (in Cubbie blue, no less), and my son named it FITkudome in honor of the Cubs first Japanese “import.”

I didn’t mean to obsess over the man, but I’m a sucker for puns, et al and he has been a wonderfully positive force for my one and only team.

Mordecai, BTW, is an inspired and fabulous name.

Y'know, I must admit...

...”FukuGnome” is an awesome gnome name. I’m tempted to buy one of these and force my wife to put it in our garden in the frontyard. She’s not much of a baseball fan, and it may not jibe with her overall horticultural vision, but it would look damn cool.

RESPECT THE GNOME!

I love the name FukoGnome. SO perfect.

The back is really cute, mine’s at the office (I’ll try to remember to take a picture) it’s just a normal back of the red overalls…but it has a cute little blue patch on the bum. hee hee. You could totally paint the name/number there.

by slcathena on Jun 10, 2008 5:38 PM CDT up reply actions

my wife was just in Disney World at the garden festival

...shopping for a Mickey gnome. I figure the Cubs should get equal time in the garden. I do all the heavy lifting in the yard and even have my own little corner of hosta plants that FukuGnome will look majestic in. (he’s a better father’s day gift than a tie, too)

I never was a lawn ornament kinda guy, but this is for a good cause! Cubs! Irrational superstitions! Good luck!

three fingers..
overalls…

Some good names so far. Soon ESPN will be reporting on the Gnome Nation!

No Judgement

But seriously, if this is what happens on an off day, what happens after baseball season? Thankfully this season we have way more to talk about than garden accessories.

by StevenABQ on Jun 10, 2008 1:23 PM CDT reply actions

The gnomes will have to come inside

...during the off season. They’ll have to follow a rigorous training program to be in top shape for spring training.

Win.

That's it, I'm

getting one of those cute little guys. I have an empty spot in my flower bed that needs a Cub gnome. I have no idea what I will name him.

by sue369 on Jun 10, 2008 1:55 PM CDT reply actions

I would suggest "Blue Mike"...

...but then you’d probably just end up taking the business end of a garden rake to him.

I’d name him Jason Marquis before I’d name him BM and you know how I feel about Marquis.
