hey
he didn’t hit it to right.

He didn't exactly hit it to left, either.
With two strikes, I’d be tempted to put the wishbone shift on him if I was the opposing team.
If anyone cares...
St. Louis up 6-2 in the 8th and the White Sux losing 6-4 in the 8th.
Wait a minute... who am I here?
May not lose
but Pujols is hurt and it looks bad. Is that good enough for you?

I know it's bad for the Cardinals...
...but I really hate to see guys get injured playing baseball. I hope it’s not as bad as you’re describing.
didn't mean for it to sound that way.
No reasonable human being would cheer an injury even against their teams biggest rival. He took two steps out of the batters box and grabbed his calf and fell to the ground. Had to be helped off by two teammates.
Yahoo says he left the game with a calf cramp. That would be great news but it sure as hell doesn’t look like a cramp.

You know...
I’d never wish ill health on anyone, but that could be devestating for them—and is definitely good for us. Not gonna lie.
Never good to see a guy get hurt.
I really like Pujols, too, so it’s doubly bad, really.

Is that what they usually say? :)
Wait a minute... who am I here?
Flipped to the Cards-Reds game between innings...
...and Pujols injured his calf again and had to be helped off the field. Things may begin falling apart for them…
wow.
if he’s going on the DL, that’s going to be devastating for them.

They'd have their best pitcher and best hitter on the DL, then.
Wellemeyer went on the DL yesterday, I believe.
I could be wrong...
...but the last I heard on Wellemeyer was he might miss a start but won’t go on the DL. Wainwright did go on the DL though…
You weren't completely wrong...
there was a chance Wellemeyer was going to end up on the DL with elbow problems, but the MRIs showed no damage.
I was completely wrong.
If I ever describe Todd Wellemeyer as the best pitcher for a team that’s not in the unaffiliated minors again, you have permission to kill me before I can make the same mistake a third time.
How about just a stern talking-to?
"I've always felt that starting pitching is the most important part of the rotation." - Joe Morgan, Sunday Night Baseball 8-12-07
He has been as good..
if not better than Wainwright this year…that’s why the Cardinals just won’t go away.
He's pitching way above his head.
And the Cardinals pitching staff looks a lot better than it is thanks to their superb defense. Defense isn’t going to keep his home run rate this low, though. I expect him to blow up, and probably sooner rather than later.
You hate to see anyone get hurt
but we’ll see how much depth the Cards have, if they have to fill in for Pujols for a while. We thought we were gonna hurt when Soriano went down in April, but it didn’t turn out that way.

Agreed.
I really do think Marmol deserves a shot there, and if Lee picks it up in June he’ll get in as well.
I don't think Lee will make it...
You have to remember that every team has to be represented so Adrian Gonzalez will take up one of the 1st base slots as the Pad’s lone representative. Then you have Berkman and probably Pujols (unless this injury is significant). I don’t think they will take 4 1Bs even with the DH. Hope I am wrong…
Didn't they take four last year?
And leave one on the bench when Pujols might have ended the game. (Not important to the Cubs, ultimately, but still…)
I know that everyone wants them to be honored but
I’d rather they all got those days off.

He's referring to Cedeno's offense.
Although last I checked, .000/.000/.000 was not in fact Cedeno’s line this season.
it's a joke
not meant to be taken literally. but he did strike out four out of his last 5 ABs. that was just the last thing that stuck in my memory. Ronny’s actually cut down a bit on his Ks this year
by PrincetonCubs on Jun 10, 2008 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions
That's fascinating.
But we’re leading, and we want to win this game, and his likability doesn’t make him a better defensive shortstop.
the general attitude
though by no means comprehensive is that Cedeno has improved drastically, and has a much higher upside than Ryan Theriot does.

Not to wade into this argument
But I guess I will, even though I’m fine with either…
This isn’t a year for upside. We’re trying to win this year. Cedeno might give us a better chance to do that, but upside is for the Nats.
uh...
no. Ronny will keep runs from scoring that Ryan won’t. THAT kind of upside is for post-season runs.

I think that if Ronny was that much better then Ryan, then Ronny would
be on the field more then Ryan, I think Lou wants to win just as much as everyone on this site, so he is playing the player that fits best with the team and the better player

I guess six is one half dozen
I consider “upside” what you say when someone isn’t quite there yet. If you’re saying Ronny is flat-out better than Ryan, OK. But “upside” to me is, “Well, he’s not as good a player right now, but he has more upside.”

If you're going to walk him, and it was a semi intentional walk
why bring in a guy you want to throw strikes.

Lou starts Theriot
...and continues to close w/ Kerry when everyone told him he was crazy. a few months ago. Call me a homer but I think he knows what he’s doing. Just an opinion.

Theriot
is a scrappy guy who doesn’t have all the talent in the world or all the tools but he gives his best on every play and Lou likes to see that in a player. However just because he tries doesn’t mean that he succeeds. If we have a player who plays better every day then we should play him. I’m not sure that we do but others have valid reasons to think that Cedano would fill the bill.

he has the tools for sure
but his “baseball IQ” is still being debated. Love Cedeno w/ bases loaded this year, though!
