Gallagher pitched decent, not great. Gave up homers to Stairs and Rolen. Edmonds with a couple hits, just missed a homer, 1 RBI. EPat drove in the other run.

I hate
Alex Rios.
My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:
Kayla Davis: Due date (8-11-08)!
Yeah.
We lose our left fielder and the Cubs call up a second baseman and a first baseman. Rather inscrutable.
lol.
I see your point, cwyers. But I thought you liked Patterson not too long ago? I remember me and you being on the same page with him.. maybe I’m wrong though.
My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:
Kayla Davis: Due date (8-11-08)!
I'm probably Patterson's biggest supporter not named Josh77.
But he’s an odd choice to replace Soriano at the very least.
Well I've been a supporter of him also.
Guess that makes 3 of us. I’m trying to figure out why the Cubs don’t take a look at him at second and throw DeRosa around.
Wasn’t DeRosa supposed to be a stop-gap FOR Patterson?
My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:
Kayla Davis: Due date (8-11-08)!
Patterson hasn't been performing well enough...
...to make anyone forget Mark DeRosa, who’s having a career year. But Patterson is certainly preferable to Mike Fontenot.
I guess;
But he has had a small sample size, we shall see how he performs since Lou keeps putting him in there though.
And anyone is more preferable to Mike Fontenot.
My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:
Kayla Davis: Due date (8-11-08)!

And Downs is a lefty. So it makes SOME kind of sense.

Piniella has a very short leash on Edmond
When it comes to lefthanders – that’s part of why Edmond’s’
average keeps going up
Blanco strikes out
why not Johnson there or Cedeno?
Strikeouts are boring - besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. More democratic. ---Crash Davis
Because if you use Cedeno you're burning three bench players for one play.
You’re already comitting to using Blanco and Johnson when you pull Soto and Edmonds.
Um, okay, let me rephrase that...
...why not Johnson there? LOL.

D-Lee is killing us in the 3 hole
What’s it going to take to make a change?

Huh...
You’re kidding right?

well, at least no ground lost today.. thats a big plus

I want to be the first to say that we lost this game in the 1st.
All Hoffpauir has to do in the 2 hole is move Theriot over. That is it. He was overmatched all night, and I am assuming that he will see the field again only as a pinch hitter. That is it. Certainly not hitting second. He made contact with the ball 1 time on a foul ball.
Lou did a poor job tonight. I love him like my drunk uncle, but bad. More than willing to empty the bench tonight, except when Soto was the tying run and cannot score on a soft single.
Well, he's not perfect
He will make mistakes, just like any other manager.
Yeah
I don’t see all the fasination with Hoffpauir. He is a AAA all-star .. at best.
My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:
Kayla Davis: Due date (8-11-08)!
Exactly
That’s why Lou pinch hit Reed Johnson for him. They thought he would be effective, but they thought wrong.
it was ONE GAME
against a good pitching team. Seriously. Guys. My gosh. You can look bad with one at bat without being writen off.

Yeah, but Hoffpauir's only real accomplishment...
...so far was his hitting in spring training this year. He’s been very underwhelming as a hitter in the minors for a first baseman.
he hit fine in houston
earlier this season. i’m not saying he’s an allstar or anything, but you can’t base everything a guy is off of one game.

I don't think judging a guy off of three games is an improvement...
...over judging him off of one game. The totality of Micah Hoffpauir’s career is essentially a guy that isn’t really good at anything having to do with baseball – hitting, fielding or baserunning. He plays only one defensive position, the easiest around. He’s not actually a GOOD hitter, at least so far as his minor league numbers would indicate.
If you need a guy to hit for about the league average and play first base, then sure, Hoffpauir’s your guy. I’m just not sure that any team, much less ours, really needs that.
Why not judge him yet?
I’m just one guy on the Internet with opinions. I have years of minor league stats and a robust set of minor league park factors and translations to work with. I don’t see what the problem is with looking at the factual record and drawing conclusions from it is.
hehe
i dont think hes good yet
But from your reply it seemed as if you were syaing it doesnt make sense to judge someone off 1 game or 3 games, hence “why judge him”

He meant judge him on his body of work...
His minor league track record is more telling than a handful of MLB games.

Agreed..
I wouldn’t think he wil be here after interleague play, but ya never know with Lou..

and should get a lot of AB’s against RH pitching..

Im talking about today
He was overmatched by the Jays pitching.
lou looks like he's testing things out
He knows that the offense is struggling and, with Soriano out, he’s not sure what he has right now. I hope to god we’ve seen the last of Hoffpauir as a #2 hitter.
And you’re exactly right about the first inning. I had a very bad feeling when Burnett got out of it without giving up a run-pitchers tend to settle down after shaky first innings.

Okay
I know we lost. But we lost to a decent team on the road with our rookie pitcher on the mound. Stop it everyone. Its one game, and we’ll get ‘em tomorrow. Please?

and that gives Lou a chance to check out guys like Hoff and EPat and see what they can do before things get tight.

Game
My thoughts…. Couple opportunities where i wished Sori was in there, but thats something the cubs are going to have to deal with for the next 4-6 weeks….
We'll be fine...
...once again, we were in the game until the very end. Had opportunities, need to take advantage of them the rest of the weekend.

When you leave 11 guys on base
you can’t expect to win. Someone has to step up and pick up those runners. That’s why we lost tonight, not because of pitching and not because of what Lou did in the 8th. DLee is killing us in the 3 spot is another problem.

Gloomy?
Who’s gloomy? How could you be gloomy? I’m normally the gloomy type, but tonight all you can be is disappointed. This is still baseball. The best team will lose many, many games. We are still the best team right now. Let’s knock out a good pitcher tomorrow.
You win some you lose some
