From espn.com via USA Today. MLB wants to institute replay "for the purpose of using replay on "boundary calls" -- was a fence or wall cleared or was a ball fair or foul? -- for home runs." by August 1st.
MLB presented the World Umpires Association with the notion of replay being used on desputed homerun calls by August 1st.
The middle of a season seems a strange time to implement something so revolutionary to the sport:
MLB has been making tentative plans to experiment with replay in the Arizona Fall League, a baseball official with knowledge of those discussions told ESPN.com recently. As recently as May 30, the time frame considered for launching replay at the major league level was next season.
However, the process must be bargained between MLB and the WUA prior to implementation.
Im not against replay, per se, I just think it isnt really necessary and a bit reactionary to a few blown calls on a couple of espn and fox games of the week.
