Cubs sign Ben Broussard to minor-league deal, will start in AAA
This guy used to be a pretty good hitter with Cleveland. I don't remember much else or have all the details or the link, so maybe somebody can help out with that. It's in the Muskat game preview. Sorry for the lack of specifics but I'm at a workstation with one arm tied behind my back. Ok, not literally, but you know how it goes with filters and actual work and all. I'm just surprised they haven't blocked BCB yet on my traffic alone!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Who's Ben Broussard?
I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

Little late there fella...
I think my favorite uncle was Uncle Caveman. We called him that because he lived in a cave and would eat one of us. We then realized he was a bear.

The dude is trying to give some helpful news
And he said he’s at work so maybe he can’t search through BCB to find out if there is another article.
No reason to be dicks.

So he has the time at work...
...to access BCB and write a fanpost, but he doesn’t have the time to perform a simple search of the site to determine whether he was rehashing a story that had been discussed in a fanpost only a day earlier. Sorry, but your point does not hold up.

Agreed.
One thing I’ve asked of people is not to be repetitive in FanPosts.
One other thing that would help is to make sure your FanPost has a title that describes what’s in it. That makes it easier to search.
Thank you.

Limit the right to make fanposts
I have a suggestion. Why don’t the fellows at SBNation give moderators/owners the ability to only give fanpost rights to certain members of a blog. Seems easy enough to me, but then I don’t have to program it. Let newbies earn the right to post fanposts. Then all this policing and carping at people for not knowing that something was talked about in a game thread or another fanpost wouldn’t be done. What is more detrimental to the site? That maybe a couple of subjects are covered by more than one fanpost or that several self-appointed people start criticizing someone for writing the fanpost. That surely encourages more participation.
And really guys, stop and think about this: What is a bigger waste of people’s time and of space on this site, that 40 posts are written in two fanposts on a Cubs waiver pick up or 600+ posts in a game thread where several (or dozens of) people probably write the similar statements nearly instantaneously? And I’m just sure that every one of those 600 posts are riveting for their insight into the inner workings of the Chicago Cubs and baseball’s importance to the cosmos.

Well, your suggestion about...
...limiting the right to write fanposts is certainly an interesting one, but I’ll leave that up to the powers-that-be.
As far as those of us who criticize – or, more accurately, make light of – those who post repetitive fanposts, I see that as simply a community policing itself. If you can’t be bothered to do the easy research to make sure you aren’t beating a dead horse, you shouldn’t expect serious replies to your fanpost.
Last, if I’m reading your post correctly, I believe you’re misunderstanding the point of game threads. They’re not necessarily to share “riveting insights into the inner workings of the Chicago Cubs and baseball’s importance to the cosmos.” To put it simply, game threads are for sharing the excitement of the game (or, in some cases, the lack thereof) with other BCBers.

Game threads are no more repetitive than the actual game of baseball...

That isn't the point.
This is a very active site. If we get multiple fanposts on the topic of Ben Broussard signing a minor league contract, then that pushes posts on potentially more important topics down the list where they might not be found.
I don’t want this turning into the cubs.com message board where they have a zillion threads on the same subjects.
It’s a really simple request: check the site to see if your topic has been recently covered. Takes a few seconds, and the new search function is easy to use.
Thanks again.
