Sure....I bet 6 out of 10 times thats a hit and 2 out of 10 times its an error on the 3b throwing it down the 1b line.
So Reed's and Nefi's bunts were those unfortunate 1 out of 10 huh?

Yabbut,
On a night when you can’t get much offense going, those little things make all the difference. You’ve gotta execute. These were mental mistakes.
Alan Trammell: Assistant (to the) Manager
errors are one thing, stupid baseball is another
Every player should be accorded the privilege of at least one season with the Chicago Cubs. That's baseball as it should be played - in God's own sunshine. And that's really living."
OK...
What about Soriano messing up on the fly ball against the Cards and costing the Cubs a run.
There is a difference between required mistakes and optional mistakes.
Guys will strike out. Guys will muff balls. It happens.
But you don’t HAVE to steal bases. You don’t HAVE to bunt. If you take the initative to do something stupid when you have other choices, that’s the worst.
it was a good bunt
ON GRASS, on grass the Cubs and Rays are tied

And Johnson played in Toronto...
...and so he knows the difference between turf and grass, and he knows which they have in the Trop. Your point?
Doesn't matter
Whatever costs the team runs is called bad baseball. Whether they are errors or even failed bunt hits.
ummm
OK, so the 73% of the time the Cubs dont get a hit…...ITS BAD BASEBALL. Agggh NO
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
"whatever costs the team runs is called bad baseball"
when the dont get a hit….its costing them runs….
Am I nitpicking YES, am I right, YES
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
I should have clarified what I said
I should have said giving the extra out or miscues is why the cubs lost the game. RJ getting caught at third and Cott’s error.
sometimes I am blunt on my statement
The train of thought is there, but I don’t put in the right words.
I'll give Reed a pass for what he's done for us this year, but....
I am really interested to hear if Lou falls on the sword for him tonight…I gotta wonder if either of his two “interesting” decisions tonight were called from the dugout.

bottom line is
RJ had a bad game, probably his worse, but it happens. I’m not going to blame the loss completely on RJ, but I do blame it on Cotts misplay.
that's true
with Cotts not throwing that ball away, the third run doesn’t score (probably) and it’s already tied—and Reed’s bunting for the win. :D

Wow...what a game!! The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Great game!!! Well, good game, we lost.
The Good: We waited out Kasmir, got their best pitcher out early. Demp looked like he was feeling our wonderful ‘off’ day travel, didn’t have his best and kept us in the game. The ninth inning, tie game if not for a rookie 3B making a great play. AND, the Rays know they are playing a superior team.
The Bad: RJ’s totally brainless steal attempt, 2 out, 3 and 1 count to Theriot. What WERE you thinking?
The Ugly: Neil Cotts. The most brainless play I have seen this team make. I hope Lou uses the foot as an excuse to DL him until he can figure out how to play baseball. He is the losing pitcher and should get 2 L’s just for that play.
strong....in terms of runs yes
but it was a strenuous outing….not as strenuous as Kazmir…..
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Swung on belted!!!"---Chip
The pitch count got to him, but he got out of trouble when he had to.
5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO, 1 HR
Alan Trammell: Assistant (to the) Manager
He was tanked from the trip. He just LOOKED tired
as, I’m sure, the whole team was. But he is tough, he kept them down, one mistake to Cliff. I think putting him in the rotation is a move that will be THE one definitive move this team can point to for this years success. The complete melt-down of expected 15 win Rich Hill (Ankiel?) has been wiped out by Demp’s pitching. Signing Kosuke is a close second, since he has taught the whole team patience at the plate. But, without Demp’s pitching, we aren’t even close to being in first.

Tonight there were two lapses in fundamentals, not counting Hoff’s at bat. Kinda reminds me of the Baker boys teams…..but I think tonight also showed that we ARE the best team in baseball. Quit is a word that doesn’t exist. The Rays KNOW they should have lost this one. And, the Cubs have great talent at most positions. That Cubbie swagger Lou talked about developing last year? Cubs have it…...

The Old Cedeno
One can see why the Rays gave Longorria the Franklin mint this spring. He is fantastic. Great try by Reed. It was the right play. I agree the big AB was Hoff-power.
Right now, Hoffpower & Cedeno have both turned back into pumpkins.

Must have! Even a 1st year little leaguer knows
not to try to steal third when you are already in scoring position and your 2 hitter has a 3 – 1 count on him. IF Theriot saw him going and wasn’t actually stunned into not swinging, he should have swung at that pitch. PERIOD.

I used to play Intelivision Baseball decades ago...
...and their programming did not match the rules of the game exactly, e.g., you could advance runners home on foul balls so long as they made it home before the ball disappeared. I would steal first and second with strikes 1&2 and then score by mastering the foul bunt …it drove my friends crazy. Watching Johnson be out by a mile and the rays celebrating reminded me of how my friends reacted the few times that they defeated my Intelivision strategery.

Ya hoffpauir really shouldn't have pinch hit in that situation
I would have rather seen Edmonds pinch hit at the time where hoffpauir was used. I don’t know what the obsession with hoffpauir is, he really isn’t that good nor does he have the potential to be on this team in the future. He had a good spring yes, but lets put someone up there in that situation who can hit a 93 mph fastball down the middle.
