Look
I have watched enough Cubs games that really nothing surprises me, however, for some of you to call the guys chckers, or , in one case, worse, are not being fair. These guys have played their hearts out all year and they still have the best record in baseball (so far). I would not be surprised if they came back and won this game.
But calling them “chokers” is ridiculous.
Don't blow it boys!
Exactly, it is such a long season.
If we lose this game, it is the first time we have lost 3 in a row. FIRST TIME! We usually don’t make it to April 15 doing that. Bad series? Yes. Bad season, no way. Keep an eye on the big picture people.
Retraction
“The choke’s on us” wasn’t my line – it was the headline of the NY Post when the Red Sox beat the Yankees in 2004. Probably was too strong a word. But it’s still disappointing to see Marmol look awful out there. He didn’t have early command of his slider so why keep throwing it? Start throwing fastballs!

I hurt my elbow and can’t throw. I first decide to rest it for a few days, then I try to pitch again. It still hurts and I still can’t throw. THAT’S why I’m worried – rest hasn’t cured Marmol’s lack of pinpoint control of late.

He COULD Be Hurt
I seem to recall him having lots of long counts and throwing lots of pitches in Toronto and in the Atlanta series. He didn’t have his usual good control. And sometimes the cause is an injury.
Look, I’m not trying to be a pain in the butt with you. I’m only saying it’s worrying to see a guy lose it suddenly. There has to be a reason. Could be other things than an injury. The Zambrano thing has me very scared.

Perspective
I’m watching all the ledge jumpers and irrational posts, and I’m also disappointed in this series. Especially tonight. It seemed to be in hand at 3-1, second and third and Lee up. Lee had a poor at-bat. Marmol was as bas as I’ve ever seen a reliever. It sucks.
What makes it harder is that I could have used the distraction. My mother had a heart attack last night and is in the hospital. She seems to be doing ok, but we won’t know the extent of it until tomorrow. I am scared.
Go ahead and vent frustration. Be angry about the Cubs’ performance; I am, too. But instead of making personal attacks or insinuating that this is a bad team (it isn’t), try to remember that it ain’t real life.

it's funny
how real life puts a game like baseball in perspective. It’s just a game. And there’s a lot more left.
I hope everyone here prays for your mother and she makes it out ok. It’s sad you had to deal w/ the garbage in here tonight, but we’re passionate… no matter what, my thoughts and prays are with you and your family.
My best to your mother, especially since my great grandma died of heart trouble less than a month ago.

This really does put things in perspective
I just walked in from work and was too exhausted to comment on anything I read tonight Except for this. I prayed for your mom as soon as I read this and just wanted to remind you that you should know you’ll always have your fellow BCBers here for support.
Go All In and Enjoy The Ride.
Comeback
If they were to come back in the ninth, I would almost be more excited to put all those horrible posters in place than the actual win.
Anyone still on these boards...

You guys/girls are the true fans (and no insult to anyone that’s NOT either).
Seriously, bravo. I’m with you.

Right.
Anyone who ever criticizes ANYTHING the Cubs do is obviously not a true fan-we’re here to support the Cubs unconditionally no matter how badly they play.

See, that's it right there.
SUPPORT is not the same as BE HAPPY WITH. Supporting a team unconditionally = being a fan. Otherwise, what kind of fan are you? A bandwagoner.
Your ilk don’t seem to get the difference.
Alan Trammell: Assistant (to the) Manager
And your ilk don't seem to get
that some of us are here because we like to vent with other fans who are truly bothered when the Cubs play badly-there are way too many people on this site who jump down the throat of people who get frustrated when the Cubs don’t play up to expectations.
And I’d like to explain something-I’ve been a Cub fan for over thirty years-theu’re the only team I live and die with-if I was a bandwagon fan I woul’ve jumped ship a long time ago.

I think the only problem is
that you started posting tonight only after they started playing bad. I know your a regular but their was a bunch of names that seemed new and its easy to put you in the group. Some posters and post to complain and it gets annoying to only see the negative comments.

I think everyone Cub fan is excited about this year, I believe this is it. It is just frustrating when you see the team scrape out 3 runs then have a 7 spot dropped on them 4 seconds later. People are going to post something hasty and angry. nothing personal

even after playing some pretty bad baseball, we still lead the Central by 3.5, and still have the best record in baseball.
We go home, take care of business in Wrigley, then head back on the road with a new attitude and new motivation to pick up wins there. Baseballl is a marathon, folks, not a 100 yd. dash.

when i had my shoulder surgery
they spread the tests out over a few days to see exactly where teh tightness and inflammation was because doing too many of the tests together made some of them inconclusive.
I dunno. We’re in “wait and see” mode at the moment.

Eternal Sunshine
I need one of those procedures to erase all the memories of 2003, 1984, etc., because that’s what makes me overreact like tonight. It’s the inevitable “I’ve seen this movie before” feeling I get whenever they cough up a lead, or drop a fly ball, or when a guy comes down with an injury. Had I no memory of those bad years in the past I’d be able to take tonight’s loss a lot better!
I think that's exactly why we can't do that with this team though.
Like yes those things happened, and it sucked. And I was totally one of the people in 2003 who was like “not again” but it almost gets mental at that point. Then all of the sudden you believe it’s going to fall apart and it does. This team is not those teams. I think we only need to look at the number of times they haven’t given up and the number of times they’ve come from behind/won close games to see that.
Even the last two games they didn’t give up, if the game had been a bit longer they probably would have pulled both of those out. Tonight sucked, but it was isolated.
Okay well that was unpleasent
and I won’t be able to watch tomorrow’s game. Boo. Anyway, GO CUBS!
Night, everyone!

ps. keep Cotts out of any game with the Sox, I feel he may be a subversive element.
Amazing!
It’s amazing that this is the first time this season the Cubbies have lost three straight. But the Cubbies played a very good team. Not the result you wanted, but IT HAPPENS.
The Cubbies leave Tampa with 3 losses, but the Cubbies are still a very good team. These 3 games haven’t changed that.
Bottomline is I am glad we wont be in Tampa for
probably another 6 years or so

Wow, just came back in. Ugly game, Uglier posts.....
First, I want to tell Shanghai that my prayers are with him/her. Best of luck to your mom, I hope your medical care is better than where we live.
Who is eamus-catulii? I mean besides a true asshole? Y’all are fighting over a bad game by a good team. We are playing shorthanded and our guys deserve a bad game. Speaking of playing shorthanded, I want to add some true perspective.
Since 9 -11, my friends in NY have been taking care of two kids who will never know their real parents. Our friends died in the Towers.
I have a nephew now in Florida. Every time he breathes, he smells the mixture of jet fuel and human bodies. He can’t bear the sound of any aircraft. HE still has nightmares of folks who jumped rather than burn.
The point is that, as rabid fans, we need to get it together and realize that baseball is entertainment, just a distraction from real life. Getting pissed at this team is a healthy reaction BUT…..Shanghai’s situation is much more serious. There are folks all around the world who could just DREAM that their biggest problem was their favorite team getting their asses handed to them by ANOTHER great team. Use this series as a scouting report for the WS….
GET SOME PERSPECTIVE!!!! We got swept. It isn’t the end of the world. So, our tired guys played a tough series and lost. I am NOT happy by the road trip, but really…..eamus, you need to be beat rather badly. Sorry, folks, I just believe that some folks do not deserve to run unimpeded through life. I hope your sorry ass is never shown here again.
God bless you Shanghai, and my prayers and best wishes to you.
And in the words of Forrest Gump, that’s all I have to say about that.
CRAZYMOUNTAIN...i like your spirit.
man, when the METS fans get down, the blog is outright depressing. i think i’m the only one w/a positive bone in the blog sometimes. diehard fans, don’t get me wrong, but damn…like you said, it ain’t the end of the world and you guys are in a very good position right before the all-star break. so…keep ya head up cubs nation.
p.s. if you guys see me posting pics of FAIL, i do it to harass my boy “Buddha” big time cubbies fan and he’s on this blog quite a bit. no ill will.
