OT: Mom's OK
Many of you that were still around after the amazingly bad 7th inning on Thursday reading the game thread saw my post about my mother's heart attack Wednesday night/Thursday morning. It wasn't something that I had planned on posting, but I'm sure some of the more "interesting" posts weren't planned, either . . . it was a release.
Mom should be able to go home on Monday and is doing well. We played some Scrabble in her room after that 9-run outburst today, while we were watching the game. Even on Thursday, Mom (who was a Milwaukee Braves fan even after she married Dad, a lifelong Cubs fan -- in 1957, no less) was curious to know how the Cardinals and Brewers had done. Still, it was, and is, a very serious situation; it sounds like we were all lucky based on the severity of the event and lifestyle changes are in order -- I'm not making any social commentary, but decades of smoking didn't help.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for the kind words and prayers; those certainly haven't hurt. Thanks to Iswaidz, who asked for an update in one of the threads; obviously here it is.
Now let's hope the Cubs go out Sunday night and complete the sweep.

That's truly good news Badger
And a reminder that, as important as the Cubs are to all of us, real life always takes precedence.
It’s also nice to know though that a couple of great games by the Cubs can lessen the burden a little bit.
Good to hear
Best wishes to her.

My grandpa ended up in the hospital over the winter
After a few days of being fairly out of it, when he came to one of the first things he asked the nurses was if he missed the Super Bowl or not.

I was floored when I was told that.
Happy to hear she is doing better :)

My thoughts are with you and your family.
Glad things are going well.

Glad to hear the encouraging news, and I hope as she continues to improve, you can both use this time to grow even closer to one another. : )

Badger...
Thank God. I was honestly worried about you and your family all day – as I know many members of BCB were… I hope that our thoughts and prayers were strength enough not only to pull your mom through this difficult time, but to energize the Cubbies bats and put 9 on the board for her in one inning!!!
I had the lovely task (whether by choice or chance) to call play by play in the thread for today’s game and it was my honor to call it for the second best game of the season (first being the 9-1 comeback… man, I wish I had that one!!!!) but I know we were all rooting for your family today as much as we were rooting for the boys in blue and I can only hope your mom’s health parallels this teams course throughout the year… because there’s only incredible things ahead for both!
BTW for what it's worth
My mom called me after the 9 run inning and I made DAMN SURE to tell her how much I loved her and that I would see her VERY soon (I made sure to take the weekend of the 4th off to spend some time golfing w/ the ‘rents) and that even though we grew up Pirates fans (I was raised in Pittsburgh and hates the BRAVES as much as any fan out there… 90-93 ‘nuff said) I will take her to a Cubs playoff game this year, no matter the cost – she deserves it!
One other thing...
I know it’s not that big of a deal… but we are a COMMUNITY here and this is a very important thing to me. Al, whoever… somebody make sure this get’s rec’d up to the top. Baseball is a game, but life is just that… life. And badger has been an awesome contributor to our thread’s since I came around a month ago and I am so grateful that his/her mom is going to be around for as much of this magical season as possible. I would go out of my way for any Cubs fan… especially anyone of you around here, so let’s do the same for Badger. Enjoy the time you have here, and most importantly… enjoy the ride this year!
Added my rec.
Others who posted here should do the same… one more after mine should do it.

very good to hear
best to her in the recovery
Badger....
I live in Fond du Lac, and I hope your mom is doing well. I lost my mom in 95. and she was a huge Cub fan that was waiting with the rest of us for a championship.
Don’t get down on your mom too much about smoking. It was her choice, and she did it her way.
Thanks again / thoughts on BCB
A lot of very nice things said, and I appreciate it. It does make a difference—and I let her know that a lot of people responded to what I’d posted. This really is a community, even though the majority of the people who participate on this site will never meet a fellow BCB’er.
Iswaidz, I liked what you said about your conversation with your mom - that’s something that I hope everyone does with the people they care about. Let them know - you don’t have to explicitly say it, but let them know in your own way. Fortunately, it didn’t take this for my siblings and me to do that with our parents, but I’ll try to be better about it, anyway.
MiCubsFan, I just added my rec to your fanpost; I think the post was needed. I’m too rushed right now to add comments, but it echoes my thoughts that I posted in Thursday’s overflow thread where the board got, well, ugly.
More than once, I’ve said that I like this blog because it’s much more rational than a lot of other sites out there. Al deserves credit for maintaining a standard, but so do the knowledgeable participants who post interesting reading. Some topics are “hot buttons” on occasion, but for the most part, people are able to disagree with civility here. After all, it’s a game—albeit the best game, still a game.
To add to my comment about sweeping the White Sox; let’s sweep the O’s, too, since I’m going to all three of those games. Al, how early do you line up for the bleachers on a day game? I might try to stop by and say hello before Thursday’s game.

You'll have to find me at the bleacher season ticket entrance...
... which is at the west end of the LF bleachers opposite the firehouse on Waveland. Should be there by 11:00.

I'll try to look for you there.
My e-mail hasn’t been working since Tuesday so it was easier to post the question here . . .

Please keep us updated
on your mother and her condition. I am so happy to read she is doing better and to see your positive comments since you posted this fan post. I agree with you, this is a nice community and we are blessed to have a place like this where ppl share not only baseball, but are concerned about each other. There are a lot of really intelligent ppl on BCB and I love reading what is up here. Please, let your mother know that we’re praying up a storm for her here in Michigan. God Bless Her! I want to say thank you for the REC on my post. I’ve given your a REC because more ppl need to see this and add their support and prayers and to see what is really important in life. May your mother recover quickly and be healthier than ever!

That is wonderful!
There is much more to life than baseball!
The 100th time has GOT to be a charm...
Great news, I'm very relieved to hear she is doing well.
You still have my prayers for a complete and worry-free recuperative process….
I am so glad to
hear your mom is doing better. I have been wondering how you and she are doing. Take care!
This was so great to hear! Thanks for the update.
