5th or so link down somebody wrote a blog about it. Basically Joe implied that they call it Banks Boulevard because Banks hit so many HRs into the basket (and thus implying he shouldn’t have as many HRs or something) even though the basket couldn’t have accounted for more than 6 of his 512 career HRs.

He has speed, plate discipline, and has a better attitude than his brother. If he can continue to handle ML pitching like he should, he will become a great number two hitter for the Cubs.

Quick questions

My mexican girlfriend is about to kill Jon MIller for his Adios Pelota comment after Rami’s HR. I wonder how I could get ahold of Jon Millers boss over at ESPN?

Also, for those of you are wondering where EPat plays? He is your new left fielder for the Cleveland Indians if I have anything to say about it.

by louslovechild on Jun 22, 2008 8:54 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

EPatt doesn't have a long-term future as a left fielder.

If he can’t stick at 2B or CF he can’t hit well enough to play every day.

Of course, the Indians wouldn’t turn down help at those positions, either.

True

And CC’s not looking worth a long-term deal right now

by cocknfire on Jun 22, 2008 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's a Class A free agent.

So you get the draft picks, which should be worth something.

by cwyers on Jun 22, 2008 9:01 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cubs won't be sold till possibly heading itno next season

And you what the Tribune said…Hendry can spend all the $$$ he wants.

by Geo4MVP on Jun 22, 2008 9:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Howry

Howry will also become a class A free agent and we would still get the draft picks.

by Geo4MVP on Jun 22, 2008 9:04 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

What I'm saying is...

...you trade for Sabathia, use him as a rental, let him leave in FA and pocket the draft picks. The A’s used to do this ALL the time.

by cwyers on Jun 22, 2008 9:05 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know that

But Sabtathia is only 28 yrs old. The Cubs have $$$ to spend regardless what happens. If the A’s had cash to spend in the past, they would have resigned Haren.

by Geo4MVP on Jun 22, 2008 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

They traded Haren for a cash crop of prospects.

Sabathia locks you into yet another long-term deal, and at some point if you don’t stop handing those out you end up looking like the 2008 Yankees, a team with a lot of problems and nowhere to make fixes.

by cwyers on Jun 22, 2008 9:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well...depends on who the Cubs give up

If the Cubs pull off a deal similar to the Mets trade for ohan and they ended up sparing their best talent, then it is possible getting Sabathia would not kill the Cubs farm.

by Geo4MVP on Jun 22, 2008 9:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Therefore, resigning Sabtahia would not be a problem

He would get a similar deal to Z and unlike most pitchers he is only 28. sign him to a 5 year deal and he would become a free agent by the age of 33.

by Geo4MVP on Jun 22, 2008 9:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

REally bad, lol

Thus, Sabathia would make perfect sense, but lets not kill the farm for him.

by Geo4MVP on Jun 22, 2008 9:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

not bad enough to be stupid

and sell EVERYTHING for a shot. its a young man’s game, you don’t win with vets you need depth, youth and speed to win now.

by halfblindcubbiegirl on Jun 22, 2008 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

+1

We’ve seen what happens when the farm is dumped for the quick fix. See: 2006.

by cocknfire on Jun 22, 2008 9:04 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, thats why Hendry would do whatever makes sense now and the longterm

Let’s see what Shapiro wants. who knows, we might pull off a deal similar to the Santana trade.

by Geo4MVP on Jun 22, 2008 9:05 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would trade

Veal, Pie, Russell and Cedeno for Sabathia. But Gallagher, Patterson and Vitters are the only ones untouchable, IMO.

Kayla Davis: Due date (8-11-08)!

by Unique on Jun 22, 2008 9:05 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The untouchables are the guys that you need to win now.

Soto is the only REAL untouchable we have, although Gallagher is probably close. (Vitters, sure, he’s probably untouchable too.)

by cwyers on Jun 22, 2008 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

So you want to go 1997 Marlins

Win it now and to hell with the future

by cocknfire on Jun 22, 2008 9:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll take 6 years over the current streak...

But I wouldn’t want to see a complete firesale like the Marlins had. If we only have to give up two top prospects plus some lower prospects for a rental of CC we would have a chance to make that up with the 2 picks for letting him leave.

by smmcctrk on Jun 22, 2008 9:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not saying that you get stupid with it.

But I definately think that this team has a window, and I want to see them capitalize.

by cwyers on Jun 22, 2008 9:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah,

Gallagher is close IMO. I think he is a long-term fix for us. I think it would be stupid to trade him for someone like Sabathia, and then potentially lose them both by the end of this year.
