Looking good

How many times has he said

Another phenomenal outing by Dempster.
Now the $1 million question: Will we see Marmol?

is there anything better
than a sweep of the Sox!
Bet we don’t see their white trash toothless fans wearing the colors this week!
Ok that was cold...
Most White Sox fans have at least 1 tooth.
ok....I have
seen a couple teeth here and there
funny
how they disappear when things go badly yet we still wear our cubbie blue stuff isn’t it?
wouldnt it be nice
if after this sweep the sox went on a steady decline for the rest of the year….
what the hell
is the Ryan Theriot sucks diary all about?
Delete please
but
he only bats over 300 with an obp near 400….....that sucks
couldn't be a sox fan
they can’t type or spell
it's some bs about his lack of defense...
saying he’ll cost the cubs 18 runs or something… whatever…
at least it’s not alex gonzalez who costed them a series
the guy isnt a good defensive shortstop
but he’s also not built to be a shortstop…..all the guy is doing is playing out of position to help this team in a spot they needed to be filled. not to mention he has been very important to the lineup. if he’s the second basemen for this team people would probably be calling him an all-star
Those numbers are a bit off...
...he was quoting someone else who did an off-the-cuff estimate based on something I wrote a few weeks back. I think 18 runs is a bit high, but he’s on pace for 12-13 runs below the average shortstop on defense. He’s also – on the season so far – a below-average hitter for a shortstop, so long as you insist on using a measure more robust than batting average.
Did you even bother reading it?
I have my quibbles with some of it, but there are these things called “facts” in there – Theriot’s hitting has declined since April, and his defense has been bad all season.
Ryan Theriot so far in June: .286/.333/.314
True story!
but
if you think onedec’s a better player
WRONG
That was eloquent and persuasive...
...and I find myself utterly convinced of your point of view. In fact, I would like to hear more, and would love to subscribe to your newsletter.
while theriots numbers in june arent what he was doing in april and may
they still arent terrible….not like he has fallen off the table…and at the same time cedeno has started to fall off the table with his hitting.
cwyers
no fun arguing during a great sweep of the white trash but who on the roster is going to do better at ss for us?
I know the riot’s not an all star ss but he has been an integral part of this team….....graphs and range factors aside
so
demonstrable facts aside, he’s great? Pfft.
by halfblindcubbiegirl on Jun 22, 2008 9:49 PM CDT up reply actions
still waiting
to hear who on this roster is going to be more valuable atss the theriot
I vote for Onedec
but Lou’s vote is the only one that counts..
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
Only numbers that count to me
are W’s and as long as we stay 20 games above .500 w/ Theriot and SS (no matter if the stats say otherwise) I’m fine w/ it. We’re in first place, remember?
Go All In and Enjoy The Ride.
that being said
like I always Cwyers you’re a man amongst boys w/ your #’s and analysis, but I just am gonna just gonna enjoy the ride (even if mosts of the bumps along the way are SCRAPPY)
Go All In and Enjoy The Ride.
Off the cuff...
...let’s presume that Theriot and Cedeno have hit to their true talent level so far this season, which would make Cedeno (roughly) 11 runs worse than Theriot on offense. [Keep in mind I’m eyeballing this off their Baseball-Reference pages.]
In that event, if Theriot is a 13 run defensive liability, and Cedeno is an average shortstop (and I think that he is), he’s a better shortstop.
If not, the Cubs should do what they did when CF became a hole, and go outside the organization for help. Really, this isn’t rocket science.
is cedeno average at ss?
his fielding percentage is worse than theriot….are u basing that he’s an average ss because of his range? if range is the key factor in who should play ss freddy bynum probably has good range…he’s available.

If a .647 OPS for a guy who isn't a Padre isn't terrible...
...then it is impossible to be terrible at baseball.
better than the .367 ops
that cedeno has sported during the month of june….....
I find it amazing how many people put no value in getting on base.

They do get warm up pitches, mind you
Although yesterday Rothschild told Piniella “He’s not ready yet” about Marmol and Piniella basically ignored him and walked out to the mound. I’m comfortable w/ our lead though.

Weird...
I know he’s been sketchy the last two outings, but I sort of like Marmol here. He’s way more warmed up too.

I would think it would have
to be Weeks, a pitching prospect and a blue chipper.
My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:
Kayla Davis: Due date (8-11-08)!
They would have to give up LaPorta
He is their up and coming prospect. They need him alot more than a 3 month rental of Sabathia.
its a bad situation for them
they’d have to give up a couple of prospects (Gallardo and LaPorta to start). They are going to have to sign him to a long term deal after giving up those prospects. As a result, They cannot resign Sheets.

Best home start since 1936.

I guess Ward makes Hoffpauir not a need.

Agreed...
And Hoff is mainly a first baseman, so I expect he goes down.

Ozzie's Press Conference Highlights
Just watched Ozzie’s postgame comments. He was surprisingly calm and resigned about the game and the series. Not surprisingly, he started off with the usual “A loss is a loss, no matter who you play against.” Yeah, right. I’m sure Kenny Williams concurs.
That aside, he was markedly gracious in defeat. Saying things like, “They played better than we did,” and “They outperformed us.”
When asked about Vazquez’s performance, he said, “[It was] not good. [He was in] trouble from the beginning of the game [and] was off most of the time.” At one point Ozzie apparently joked that, “We might send Vazquez down and bring Louiza (sp?) back.”
About Dempster, he had a variety of compliments, including “He threw the big pitch when he had to,” and “He threw the ball unbelievable good.”
When asked whether he was going to change anything when the Cubs visit the Cell next weekend, Ozzie said simply, “No, we just have to play better, pitch better.”
Finally, several times during the interview he said about the Cubs, “That’s why they’re in first place.”
Indeed, Ozzie. Indeed.
Nanika Ga Okoru!
Wow...

Yeah, I'm guessing he was...

“um the cubs didn’t get the 10th in a row, and the sox came back with 7 the next week. why don’t ya don’t ya go jerk soriano off…i think he could use a n extra hand. HA!”
“Never said the cubs weren’t the best team in baseball. As of right now ya gotta say that. But the sox ARE in a better spot. And like I said the cubs are SUPPOSED 2 be where they’re at. I’m not sayin anymore till the series”
“I know you like wrapping your mouth around Mariotti’s balls all the time, but his article today was undeniably trash. Even for someone who likes his work such as yourself, I thought you would still know better…
P.S. – Ozzie blew it today by going to Dotel in the 7th. Danks was pitching fantastic.”
“I probably would have made that bet seeing as how I’m so used to takin ur money, however I’m reading your post after the sox handed you guys a win. Ozzie got out-managed once again. But bottom line..anytime you get lead-hits in three innings (two of them doubles) ya simply don’t deserve to win the ballgame. Danks should have never been taken out with uribe pinch hitting. Fuckin 1 earned run, 5 scattered hits, and 3 clutch double play ground balls…he was fuckin rollin but the cubs one fair n square. what can I say?”
Lone Cubs Fan post: “I love how all these sox fans hate on the cubs so much that they actually get mad over it!! all i can say is lets go white sox all the way to the seris and we’ll see ya there!!!”
