OT - George Carlin
This is my first fan post and unfortunately it's not a very happy one. Yesterday I was so happy seeing the Cubs sweep the Sox but today I'm sad because we all lost a great comedian. I saw George Carlin twice, once in 1977 and later in the early '80s and just loved his way of telling a story along with great facial expressions.
I liked a lot of his routines but one of my favorites was his routine about "Lets make a deal". He did this on Johnny Carson one night and my brother and I were literally rolling on the floor. My dad was laughing more at me and my brother but he too enjoyed Carlin.
I have attached a link to one of his routines comparing baseball with football. Although I'm not terribly fond of this routine (mainly because he seems to make fun of baseball and I really do like baseball more than football), I chose this because this is a baseball site and wanted the post to be baseball related.

Rest in peace, George. We will miss you.

He was very funny ...
and has managed to stay relevent through the decades. I only saw him a while back in Vegas and it was a great show.
"I don’t believe that things go your way," said Lou Piniella, the Cubs manager.
"I believe you make things go your way."
I loved Carlin's edgy stuff....
... in the early 70’s when I was in high school. He really did push the envelope in ways no comedian except Lenny Bruce had done up to that time.
He will indeed be missed.
(Strange, when I posted this there was an ad offering “George Carlin Ringtones” on the page. I have no control over that.)
"That's my opinion and if you don't like it, well, I have others." ~ Groucho Marx
He took on the FCC and the Supreme Court
and because of that he ranks with the greats such as Lenny Bruce. Sad to say goodbye.

Carlin Liked Sports
There should be randomly placed land mines in the outfield. Batters should only get one swing. There should be a 2 second shot clock in basketball. Why do pitchers always “uncork” a wild pitch? How can hitters NOT hit the ball where it’s pitched? Football is played in a stadium, War Memorial Stadium. Baseball is played in a park. Those are some of the comments I remember from George Carlin.
BTW, i have seen two football games between Miss State and Arkansas at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. Tim Russert talked about seeing Bills games at War Memorial Stadium in Buffalo.
"The big possum walks late." - Harry Caray
He was a genius.
I loved his fascination with words and their meanings.
R.I.P. George Carlin.
Nanika Ga Okoru!
He obviously worked the baseball/Football routine
over the years. The version I had on album had two bits not on the youtube
clip. One was that football was in fact very European as the object was to
“Kick them and take their land and kick them and take their land”
Also instead of imagining what Parcell’s would look like in a uniform he talked
about how Woody Hayes wore a baseball cap on the sidelines but if Casey Stengel
had worn a football helmet in the dugout they would have carted him way.
Anyway my favorite baseball routine.
"I am not ashamed to say I love Greg Maddux" - Jim Hendry
RIP
We’ve been playing his stuff in the office all day, much to the chagrin of the boss, but he can go shove it… at least his name isn’t Todd or Tucker ;-)
“Hi, I’m Wayne… I’m a gun person.” Priceless.
One of the true comedy greats
I just started reading his book “Brain Droppings” again while waiting for the game to start yesterday. Kind of a strange coincidence when I saw the news this morning. I’ll never forget seeing him in Little Rock in ‘99. He was still every bit as funny as all the older shows I watched. I’ll miss him.
"I'm not giving him a high-five ever again." - Sammy Sosa, joking about Moises Alou's personal habits
Loved him
I was thinking of making a fanpost about this myself.
Once in 1990 Harbaugh and Grace hosted on WGN together and they read Baseball vs. Football.
In football the quarterback also known as the field general leads his squad down the field and executes plays and if he does have to he resorts to throwing the bomb in baseball its about going home.
In football it’s rigifdly timed and if it’s tied we have sudden death. In baseball they play 9 innings and we don’t know when it’s goibg to end. We can have extra innings!
(not exact words but I loved those 2 passages)
Go Cubs
"And now the baseball scores..."
“Four to three, six to one, five to four and in extra innings six to five.”
GET Rich Harden !!! 10 starts, 4-0, 59 IP, 72 Ks, 2.44 ERA !!!
There's 400,000 words in the English language...
...and there’s 7 of them you can’t say on TV. That still has me rolling and it was some 30 years ago he did that.
Tonights’ forecast: Dark….tomorrow morning it will start to get a wee bit light then it will be bright later.
His baseball vs football comparison is a riot.
RIP George, there will never be anyone quite like you buddy.
Sweet Lou for Mayor in '11.
Get on the plane, get on the plane. F you, I’m getting IN the plane.
And I offer up a prayer to Joe Pesci for the great George Carlin.

"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
A truly original American genius
I doubt we’ll ever see his like again.
RIP George-You will be missed.
My wife and I talked about Carlin's expressed ambivalence about God....
and decided that, if there is a God, George was welcomed into Heaven because of his consummate humanity, and obvious love for his fellow man (disguised as sarcasm).
I will truly miss him.

I think about George Carlin...
every time i’m driving down a parkway. Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway. His mastery of the english language was amazing.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand. - Homer J Simpson
The strangest thing
for my wife and I was that, driving around on Sunday we heard that Carlin had just been nominated or given some kind of achievement award. I didn’t catch where/who it was from though, if anyone can help out. Anyway, they’d mentioned at that time he is 71 and I said, “Wow, he’s gettin’ up there. He’s a bit older than I thought.” Then the next morning he was gone.
He was one of the good ones.
