Dome's diary - Jun 23rd edition

Dome posted his diary on Jun 23, actually it was written after winning against Sox by Ramirez's walk-off homer (I guess he emailed it and his web staff in Japan posted it in JST). Here's quick summery of his random thoughts.

--------------------

* Great start off the windy city classic... too big winning by walk-off right after being swept the series (by Rays). The team's atmosphere is so good right now and getting better I believe.

* Never feel any indication we will lose at Wrigley, but I know that's not enough...

* So Wrigley isn't the same with hometown match-up. I don't know about outside the ballpark, but the downtown isn't the same right? Hard to believe some company will take days off for the series...

*Fans at Wrigley are so great, so enthusiastic... always full, even daylight game on week day. My old friends from Nagoya finally took vacation and visited here to watch my game, and they said they wonder how Cubs fans manage their holidays...

* Thank you so much for fans about the All Star vote as well. Hope Soriano gets well sooner.

*My hitting is getting better now I feel, but there are many little things to be adjusted... I have to work on every single things, one at a time - will continue my effort step-by-step.

*I don't worry about my average... it is too early to think about that. Also no change of anything no matter where I hit in the lineup.... I just do what I can do.

*My family finally landed in Chicago, and am really pleased with it. My bat is getting hotter as the temperature in Chicago get hotter.

*Taking care of my new baby is absolutely bigger deal than baseball, but I think I am doing good job for him. I found Hayato is growing bigger every time I came back from road trip. So happy he is always great! But reportedly he misses me so much while I am not at home, and my wife has to deal with him for it...

--------------------

There are some photos posted on his diary, and in the bottom photo he says he frequently visit Chicago Kalbi restaurant for his favorite Korean BBQ.

Thanks for keeping us posted with this.

This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

This is great stuff!

Gotta try that restaurant. Looks good!

thanks dragonsfanatic.

Your posts always help us gain some insight into Fukudome as a man, not just a player.

Question has been asked before!

Kalbi is yummmm...

But watch out, your clothes may smell like BBQ for days!

Awesome post, Kosuke seems like a pretty down to earth guy.

Recent cutting edge BBQ restaurants have...

braziers with vacuum capability so smokes won”t be getting around… the holes on side are for it.

But yes, you can’t avoid some smells, but don’t care if you have yummy beef BBQ…

Wait.

People are worried that bbq smells bad? Just wash your clothes and take a bath. :P

Kosuke is amazing. I don’t know that I’ve ever fallen head over heals faster for a player in recent memory.

I tell you what I really miss

is authentic kimchee—especially summer kimchee soup. Now I’m salivating.

Dragons...

Have you been to the “Super Yakiniku Man” near the San-A in Ishikawa? I’m positive it’s not the real name of the place, and it has been 8 years since I’ve been there, but my friends and I have often used up our entire 90 minutes there eating like madmen!

Recruiting tool?

This looks like a great site—showing the Japanese what a great time he is having in Chicago.

Perhaps it could lure other Japanese stars to the Cubs?

I love reading this

Hopefully down the line Kosuke will have an English version of his diary as well. Not that I don’t appreciate dragon’s translations, but I’d love to have the whole site translated.

Couldn’t agree more with slcathena about falling in love with a player faster. It’s like Kosuke has been on the team for years, not months.

Thanks, dragonsfanatic!

I’m totally bummed, though. I see Dome’s favorite Korean restaurant is located near Lawrence and Pulaski. Well, I used to live near Montrose and Pulaski. Oh, why did we ever move? I could be stalking Dome 24-7 and enjoying some fine Korean BBQ in the meantime.

Dammit, dragonsfanatic, you're making the rest of us look bad!

Thanks for the translation. Glad to hear Dome is enjoying the day baseball, Wrigley atmosphere, and being a dad.

I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling, so why don't we just ignore each other til we go away.

Thank you!

Thanks from me as well. This fanpost made my day, and I appreciate it. :)

Dragon, I'm confused...

...I thought Dome’s family had decided to stay in Japan during the season. Are they just here to visit now?

Never heard of that

As his son Hayato was born on Dec 16 last year in Japan, they decided his wife and baby would stay there until Hayato can get on long distance plane (to Chicago). Dome will be staying at home in Nagoya after the season is over, of course, with his family. So they are not just visiting but living in Chicago.

Fuku Diary Page

Is there a page that displays the entire archive of these? I want to send it to my some of my japanese friends. Dragons, do you plan on translating all of them? It is really fantastic of you to go to the trouble of doing that for us. Thank you.

by SleepyLaBeef on Jun 24, 2008 6:50 PM CDT reply actions

Ask Google....

... to translate all of them, but cross your fingers to get reasonable result….
His diaries started back in Dec 2004 and were written on pace of once or twice a month, and you can read all 105 entries.

Also, please call him Dome instead of Fuku if you agree.... thanks.

On the subject of being respectful...

Does it bother anyone else that people wear rice hats to the games? Every time I see one of these, it makes me cringe as much as those awful T-shirts did.

Excellent diary as always, Dragons…

Help me Obi-ONEDEC. You're our only hope.

That smaller rice hats...

...reminds me Vietnamese mostly… We Japanese have similar kind of hats but it’s bigger and a bit flat... maybe it stiil small for Americans…
The most Japanese unique stuff is this one, called Sandogasa...

Dragonsfanatic exposes the truth

Kohsuke is a humble, centered professional. We seem to have an abundance of those on this team…
