just checking in for the first time today...
How’s the spirits on the board for a miraculous comback today?
Or is everybody playing the drinking game and too blasted at this point?
Win.
I guess by the deafening silence, most have gone to the bar already and are drowning their sorrows.
Win.

Nice thought but I know, you know, we all know, the lead story is going to be how Joba's arm is feeling the day after his first victory.

Holy Hill! I am glad I have missed the majority of this game! The Cubs haven’t had a really embarassing loss yet and I am not willing to say this will be the one yet. They have 2 on, make some noise Wrigley!
Geovany Soto you're my Hero
Actually
They got blown out in Cincinnati earlier this year- 9-0 or something. The game Lieber started.
"Hey hey, kiss it goodbye! That one's in Milwaukee! Man oh man did he hit it. Isn't that something?" - Lou Boudreau, May 17, 1979
Yeah, but for some
reason that doesn’t seem as bad as this one. This is some seriously sloppy fielding and bad pitching. It isn’t like luck just isnt in our corner today. They are losing it

11-1
Ain’t over yet.
I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling, so why don't we just ignore each other til we go away.
Everyone, play along here...
...imagine if we ACTUALLY CAME BACK this game. Just imagine. Talk to me…
Wait a minute... who am I here?
If we win this game...
we all get Cubs tattoos.

Better yet
A black sock with holes in it and a dead cardinal

A comeback
would be the biggest in Cubs history.
I remember watching the Phillies come back from an 11-1 or an 11-2 deficit to beat the Dodgers back in 1990. The game must have been on ESPN. I still recall Tommy Lasorda sitting all alone on the dugout bench after the game, looking like he wanted to kill someone. Then he knocked the gatorade container onto the ground.

This one actually stung more than...
...Lieber’s disastrous start in Cincinnati. At least Volquez was pitching in that game. The Cubs just pwned by Liz (?!) at Wrigley Field. Oh, well. It’s only one game – and the Cards still lost.

remember kids, this is was looking to be the most difficult month of the year
and we are 14-9 on the month. Plus we are 4.5 games up on the Cardinals and 5.5 up on the Brewers. Today hurt, but this is just one of many that they have left to play this year.

Depends on what they demand
It appears to me Gallagher is much more important considering Marquis is a big question mark for this team. He is not going deep into games, and unless Veal can step it up, I don’t see Gallagher being included in this deal. However, if somehow Hill pulls off a miracle and redeems himself, then we could possibly afford to lose Gallagher, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Gallagher is good.
He might one day be great. However, in order to get a good player in return, sometimes you have to let go of somebody you might not want to. Gallagher could be this guy. In ‘84, Mel Hall was playing great for the Cubs, I though he’d be great- then whoosh- both he and Carter are gone. Big Red went 16-1 in the 2nd half. If we can get someone like Burnett, Harang, even Sabathia- pair him with Z, along with Dempster & Lilly. No need for Gallagher.

3-6 against the bottom of the AL East

Huh?
Tampa Bay is the “bottom” of the AL East?
Baltimore is at least 4-5 games over .500.
And the Cubs took 2 of 3 from Toronto (and probably should have swept).

I went to Toronto, not Tampa
(Thank heavens, as it turned out.)
I have a friend in St. Pete, and every time I’m there, I go to Berns Steak House in Tampa. If you ever go to that area, you have to eat there. I don’t know where you’ve eaten, but it might be the best overall restaurant experience I’ve ever had. (And, surprisingly, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.)
The food in Toronto was outstanding (no steak, however).

Reread that post…I misunderstood. Never been To Berns…..but looked it up after your post and have been eager to “take a ride” over there.
You anywhere near Supprosa or Papa Del’s? If so, PLEASE send some down…..
The best defense is a good offense
Unfortunately, no
It’s about 90 miles to Papa Del’s and 150to Superosa. No good pizza in Peoria.
Are you in Orlando? I know people over there who drive to Tampa just to eat at Berns.

I'm in Jupiter....(East coast...Just north of West Palm Beach)
I grew up in Peoria…...How long have you been there?
The best defense is a good offense
There are Peorians everywhere
I even stood next to a guy in Toronto who was a Cubs fan from Peoria but lives up there now. Amazing.
I grew up in the Chicago area but came here to go to school (Bradley). Aside from about three years split between Missouri and North Dakota, I’ve been in Peoria the last 27 years. I like it here very much.
What part of town are you from? What high school did you go to? And how did you end up in Jupiter? (It’s a long way to go from there to Tampa just for dinner, but if you find other reason to be in that area, Berns is a must-stop.)

Went to high school where they don the green and white.

CAT?
The best defense is a good offense
One of the few non-Cat people
I work in the local media, dead-tree version. Cat is going great guns here now, but when I arrived in town in the early ‘80s, that certainly wasn’t the case. Will the last one out of Peoria please turn off the lights?
As I’m sure you now know, there are two “malls” on War Memorial. The real action (and good neighborhoods) here anymore are all north of War.
And Richwoods still has only the third-best high school basketball program in town, behind Manual and Central (although the RHS girls did win a state title a few years ago).
You mention Westchester and Beverly. Are you referring to the western Chicago suburb and the southern Chicago neighborhood, respectively?

I grew up in Westchester
My parents still live there. And I have a ton of family in Beverly. My grandparents moved there from Roseland in the early 1970s. This is crazy. Is Scarborough a street in Westchester now? (I haven’t lived there in almost 30 years, so I’ve lost track of a lot of the “newer” neighborhoods on the south side of town.)
So you must have been at RHS when Nora Lewis played there. And the football state title came in either Peeler’s last year or one of them, so you graduated from RHS around 1983 or 84?
And without “outing” myself too much, Bill Liesse is my boss.

And I know of Phil Favorite but never have met him. I take it you know he and Bill from U of I?
I know exactly where those apartments are. Pingatore’s, as I’m sure you know, was owned by the basketball coach at my alma mater, St. Joseph High School (Class of 1981).
Or maybe you are (hence your name). My grandparents lived near 115th and Western—my grandad was another South Side Cubs fan, who helped turn me on to them in the late ‘60s.
I know Coach Peeler a little but am more acquainted with Coach Butler. Still see him on the golf course a lot. And I still don’t think the Deerfield boys know what hit them.
I see Stewart almost every day—known him over 10 years. We run hot and cold.
