Just don’t do it

"In football the object is for the quarterback, also known as the
field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the
defense by hitting his receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the
blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and
long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this
aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in
the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

of course he has little if any practice for about 10 days.
However HE IS THE ONLY LEFT FIELDER WE HAVE so might have been nice
if Lou had figured that out before the game started. You don’t like Murton and is his
.295 career than find ANOTHER left fielder but don’t let E-Pat out there

Patterson and Fontenot with two simple mistakes, and while it doesn’t account for everything, it adds up. At least we can see what Lieber can do in a long-relief situation for once.

If people can’t understand that, well too bad. Am I jumping off the ledge, no. But, I am concerned with our left fielder and our slumping no make that “slumped” first baseman. We are playing bad baseball and that makes me upset. I don’t have to bring out pom poms every time the Cubs play.

Nobody's shaking pom-pons

But you do understand it’s a long season, and there will be highs and lows. At least I hope you understand it. This team is a bit banged-up right now. Another week or so and things will look better.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 27, 2008 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions

You're concerned about this game

when our starting LF and RF are injured to semi-injured, when the current players occupying their position have below-average arms?

Ballclubs go through slumps. The Cubs have been hotter than cow dung for the majority of this season: a 5-5 of last 10 isn’t even that bad of a slump. But, for those new trendy Cubs that are coming through the grape vines this year, then yeah, it’s catastrophic.

You don’t have to bring out pom poms every day, but people don’t have to scream bloody murder as well. Giving out criticism is great, especially if it’s constructive criticism. But there’s a fine line between that and moaning and groaning like a 12 year old—which does absolutely nothing for absolutely no one

Look at the bright side of all this...

expose the injuries and weaknesses NOW, before the trading deadline while the Cubs can still do something about it.

It is just one game. Lou knows that teams go through funks during a 162 game schedule.

But with injuries coming out now, they can hopefully make moves to adjust. Let’s stay calm. Marmol seems to be figuring things out. Hopefully D-GIDP-Lee will figure things out too!!

Frustrating last two games (DUH) but at least the All-Star break is coming....

just hope we don’t let STL and MIL get closer by then…..looks like we are entering one of the first really bad stretches of play….let’s keep it a mini-slump instead of a collapse…..guess it is more frustrating because we saw most of this opening half of the season a much better team out there…..lots of dumb stuff happening to us right now…......my biggest problem right now is DLee’s crashing slump…..

by razzpunk on Jun 27, 2008 4:24 PM CDT reply actions

I agree

high expectations. We expect to win. We expect them to win EVERY GAME.

Our expectations are high but that is partly because we still have the best record in baseball....

so we got used to seeing the best of this team….but every baseball team also shows its ugly side during the long season….just hope to keep the slumpy times to a minimum….if we are still struggling like this by mid to late July then maybe we can start totally freaking out…..

I know this has been beaten to death

but I think DLee has been the ultimate problem the last few days. If he makes one out instead of two all the time we could have been in every one of those games. I’m frustrated because he has been one of my favorite players for years. Even today, if he puts the ball in play we score. Changes the tone of the game.

by mgfabc on Jun 27, 2008 4:34 PM CDT reply actions

Right

That’s why, for his own good as well as the team’s, Pinella HAS TO move him down in the order-it certainly isn’t helping to run him out there everyday and watch his brutal hitting in clutch situations-I’m at the point whee I’m hoping he’ll “only” strike out when he comes up because then at least we have Ramirez up next.
