by BigDcubbie on Jun 30, 2008 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am not getting the HD feed on the West Coast either

but I’d still rather watch Len & Bob the old way than watch the Giants broadcasters in HD. I am loyal to my Cubs and the Cubs’ broadcast!

But it does piss me off that DirecTV is not

picking up the CSN+ feed. They have picked up the HD feed from CSN+ in the past.

What gives?

I’m in Chicago and I’m getting the San Francisco call on the HD channel and Len and Bob on the SD channel. I’m watching the HD because I’ve become spoiled and the announcers are OK.
Anybody have any ideas?

No HD for CSN on DirecTV it appears tonight.

Same problem here in LA. I refuse to watch the SF broadcast.

How to stuff a ballot box

by cocknfire on Jun 30, 2008 10:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol

He started out well. “A lot of people tell you this country’s best days are behind it. Well don’t listen to them.” But then he went off the rails, talking about a couple citizens in Chicago who did great things but it didn’t have much to do with his original point. He talked a lot about himself and his accomplishments with the public schools. Then he just basically launched into a marketing schpiel as if he was asked, “Why should Chicago go after the Olympics?” instead of, “What is your advice to us graduates?” On top of that, the man confused subject-verb agreement the entire day – “Our children is the future” – and mispronounced words and got other facts wrong (“I’m happy to be here for the 105th Commencement” .... it was the 150th). A lot of us were pretty let down.

Emmott, however, was quite enjoyable. He’s British, so getting to hear that accent and humor is always a plus, and he had a lot of clever things to say, along with good optimism about the future of journalism.

True story

Some player told Joe Morgan he grew up watching the BRM, and Morgan said so on the broadcast

Baseball this Morning did the math … the kid would have barely been born at the end of the BRM days … he was blowing smoke and Morgan didn’t even know it

was that game ending? or did they just give it up to a tie or something?

I have to say (slightly off topic)

as a pacific northwest guy these days, it’s funny to see Riggelman as manager of the Mariners. I remember him all too well in cubbie blue…

Dragon, maybe you can answer this...

is it bad luck, or dishonorable, or even against Japanese stereotypes for Kosuke to be wearing “Fukudome” on his jersey instead of the more standardized “Kosuke,” or is that just an American misconception?

by lswaidz on Jun 30, 2008 10:19 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That normal to wear family name

Ichiro is just the special and very unique case….
Americans and other foreign players in Japan sometimes wear his first name instaed of family name in NPB, just as Alex Ochoa wears “ALEX”
