We need good news...

And I've happened to find some in this article on Cubs.com.

Carlos Zambrano threw 60 pitches in the bullpen at US Cellular Field on Sunday, and pronounced himself ready to go for Friday when the Cubs open a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

This is very good timing so he can pitch against the Cards. This makes me feel a little bit better after hearing that Aramis Ramirez will be out for three games against the Giants in this fanpost. Lets regroup aft6er four tough losses and take three of four from the Giants.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Yeah, we chatted about this a bit in the game threads...

...I think Zambrano actually told Lou he was ready to pitch YESTERDAY’S GAME, IIRC.

more good news

hendry says that rich hill looks to be improving. It’s amazing how the cubs are doing this without one of their key starters. But Jim says that he expects Rich to help the big club in the second half.

obviously numbers don't tell the whole story.

but a look at Hill’s numbers from the past 10 appearances isn’t the least bit encouraging.

2-4 with a 5.88 ERA doesn’t instill confidence in the least.

Hendry couldn't hardly say that

Hill is looking horrible and no team should possibly want him.

I take it with a grain of salt. Hendry’s just doing what a good GM should do.

Also FYI...

... and I should have posted this in the recap of Saturday’s game, Reed Johnson took BP on Saturday (and I presume Sunday, too, though I didn’t specifically see him), and looked fine.

I'll See Big Z in STL on July 4

My good news is that after making a 4-hour, 15 minute drive up I-55 to St. Louis that I’ll get to see Big Z take on the Cardinals on the 4th of July. I suppose we all knew this would be a challenging stretch for the Cubs without both Soriano and Big Z. Aramis missing the SF series doesn’t help matters. That’s enough negativity. I predict the Cubs will stay in 1st place beyond this 4th of July weekend and win the NL Central. The Cubs will survive these injuries.

Also good is that the Cardinals are going to get the best

of the Mets pitching staff… Maine, Pelfrey, Santana. Got to hope that the mets can at least earn a split.

We need to win our games first and foremost…but a little help from the Metropolitians would be nice.

It wouldn't be possible...

that Z is coming back too soon is it?

Anything's possible.

But I don’t think they’d let him come back if he weren’t ready.
