Minor League Wrap--June 3
I'm way to tired after a long day to do a full recap tonight. I'm just going to do a short thing tonight (so you Farmheads out there won't think I forgot you) and then try to update it tomorrow morning . . .which will be tomorrow afternoon for most of you.
Iowa Cubs
The I-Cubs beat the Nashville Sounds, 3-2 in 10 innings.
Jason Dubois hit his third home run for Iowa. Jim Brower got his first win in the Cub organization in relief. Felix Pie was 1 for 5.
Tennessee Smokies
The Smokies lost a wild one to the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, 10-9 in 11 innings.
James Russell had his second bad start, allowing four runs in three innings. Greg Reinhard got the loss in relief, allowing three runs in 2.1 innings.
Sam Fuld, Nate Spears and Wellington Castillo each had three hits. Castillo apparently got promoted to AA three days ago and I didn't notice.
Daytona Cubs
The D-Cubs fell to the Palm Beach Cardinals, 2-1.
Starter Marco Carillo took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits and four walks in five innings. Carillo struck out three. Jeremy Papelbon threw two shutout innings of relief and Rocky Roquet tossed one.
Daytona only managed four hits on the day.
Peoria Chiefs
The Chiefs were hosed by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 4-2.
Robert Hernandez is back! Hernandez returned from his 50 game suspension for PEDs and was impressive, allowing only one unearned run in five innings. Hernandez allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out five.
Kevin Kreier got the loss in relief.
Shortstop Nate Sampson was 2 for 3 with a triple and a run scored.

Daytona lost to Matt Clement
Clement (yes, that Matt Clement) played in his first game in two years. MiLB.com has a nice write up of his start.
Good for Clement...
It’s nice to see him recovering from arm problems. Although for the Cubs’ sake, I hope he doesn’t make it all the way back until next year. If he can come back and be productive down the stretch for the Cards, that’s not a good thing.
Hernandez
gets compared to Carlos a lot—Carlos has taken him under his wing in Spring Training, too.

Wellington Castillo?
I don’t know anything about him. I have no idea what position(s) he plays. Is he right-handed or left-handed? Does he switch hit? I don’t follow class A baseball. Maybe, I’ll see him the next time the Smokies come to Jackson.

He's a catcher
and is one of the better prospects in the system. He gets compared to Yadier Molina a lot. Very good defense, questionable bat at the major league level. But you can never know, as Geovany Soto was pegged as a career backup before last season.
