Old Cubbie Radio games
I just happened upon these. One is Game 2 of the 1938 WS. The other is a Cubs-Sox game from the city championship series in 1936. Kinda cool. Kinda hard to follow.
Did anybody else have no idea there was a city championship?

Thanks for the link
I will check it out. I’ve listened to an old 1930s WS game (not involving the Cubs) before, and yes, it was hard to follow what with the crackly audio and the different announcing style. Some of the jargon was different too, and I think when mentioning the count they had the balls and strikes reversed.
Another quick search on archive.org found a recording of the Cubs vs the Brooklyn Dodgers, presumably at Ebbets Field, on June 4, 1957. I just listened to the intro—it’s the Dodgers’ broadcast, and the announcer says the second game of the three game series will be played at Roosevelt Stadium. where Wikipedia says some home games were played in 1956 and 1957. Random, interesting, thank you Internet.

Really cool to hear Vin Scully in his prime!
And it was funny hearing him say it was good to back from “out west”, meaning Stl and Chicago…lol..

fantastic!!!!
What a treat! Dizzy Dean pitching to Dimaggio, Dickey, Gehrig and others. Hearing Lefty Gomez pitch to Herman, Jurges, Collins and Hack. What a great trip through the time tunnel. Thank you so much for posting this here. I enjoyed it immensely.
Dick Drott
was great in ‘57—something like 15-11 with a last, or near last place team. Drott struck out 15 against a great Milwaukee Braves team. He and Moe Dabowski were the Mark Prior and Kerry Wood (‘03 versions) of their day. Both were big disappointments by ‘58 though Drabowsky went on to have a creditable career as a reliever with other teams, most memorably with the ‘66 Orioles in their World Series sweep of the Dodgers that year.
A lot of old memories in that radio broadcast.
