At least the game is far from over

We’re only down 4 runs and we still have 5 at bats. Let’s also remember that the opposing manager is Dusty, he can make a key decision that will give us the game!

Amen

the runs he gives are usually charged to the previous hurler. He’s lost it. He was decent last year. Anyone that says he’s good is lying to themselves.

by Itchy on Jul 10, 2008 2:56 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just because a player has a bad stretch...

...does not mean he’s “lost it.” He’s had several years of very good pitching for us as a middle reliever, and there’s no reason to completely ignore that based upon a less than 40 innings so far this year.

APRIL .872 Great month.
MAY .744 Stopped getting extra base hits, but tons of walks.
JUNE.709 Still no extra base hits, decent walks.
JULY .666 Still no extra base hits, and no walks.

I'll defend Lieber the same way I defended Wuertz.

Neither has pitched enough to stay in any kind of rhythm. We all know that Lou has really leaned on Marmol, Howry, and Wood at the back. He has preferred Gallagher and Marshall in the rotation. (I’m not saying that these are bad moves by Lou, necessarily, just that they have come at the expense of Lieber and Wuertz.) The Cubs starters usually go 6 innings, so one long man will be underutilized, let alone two.

I think both of these guys are good pitchers who are victims of circumstance. Gaudin just exacerbates the situation. Perhaps Wuertz can be traded for a good RH bench bat?

"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007

by DeRoMyHero on Jul 10, 2008 3:10 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wuertz wouldn't get anything but another teams trash.

Like Aardsma or someone of that ilk. Give Gaudin Wuertz’ spot!!

by Itchy on Jul 10, 2008 3:15 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Again...

He had a bad day.

Do you expect any team to have 5 closer-caliber relievers? Not gonna happen! Wuertz by and large has been servicable in the role he has. When he’s allowed to pitch more than once a month.

by Shanghai Badger on Jul 10, 2008 3:15 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No, I don't

just expect a guy to come in and throw strikes. Give another guy a chance! Geez, even Santo has been saying Wuertz has lost his slider this year. Let it go.

by Itchy on Jul 10, 2008 3:18 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Let it go?

I’ve posted two things about Wuertz in this thread. Two.

Perhaps you need to let it go.
