Now what?
It's been awhile and Well it appears that the many on this site are happy about the acquistion of Rich Harden even though when I was screaming at the top of my lungs last off-season that in order for the Cubs to go deep into the playoffs they would need another "top of the rotation guy" and many of you scoffed at it and believed that the Cubs could do it without the addition of a pitcher like Harden and that their "starters ERA" was 3rd in the NL last season and yada yada yada , the most overrated stat out there. and you know who you are. Another very unpopular opinion I had was Rich Hill was terrible and more importantly terribly overrated, ehum. Which is why I never come to this site or any other Cub site anymore: 90% of Cub fans just aren't that baseball smart and I was wasting my baseball knowledge and got tired of the usual suspects playing devils advocate with me because they apparently had nothing else to do but act like Cry babies and toss insults around when they disagreed to one of my many ( since accurate ) predictions (Excluding the DBacks :).
Anyway, I digress. The next thing the Cubs MUST address and very soon is a RH hitter off the bench to replace Cedeno and send Cedeno down to the Minors When Johnson is starting, Ronny the brainfreeze Cedeno is quite possibly the worst #1 RH hitter coming off the bench for any ML team. What RH Middle Infielders out there could possibly be had and would be an upgrade over Cedeno?

Just read
on the Seattle Times that Richie Sexson was released. There’s your RH power right there. And if you’re lucky then Murphys will run the same promo bars out here had – “Draft beer for Sexson’s BA”. Good deal.

another Edmonds???
Maybe we could get Richie the same way we have Edmonds. Let other teams pay him a lot of money while we get the benefits. He was a great hitter but something has happened to him. And he would be a nice sub for DLee at first when he needs a rest.

A couple of things
Most people, as I remember it, also said that the Cubs needed a front line starter. I know I wasn’t satisfied with Lilly as #2.
Secondly, did you really think that Rich Hill was going to be what he is now? I don’t think anyone could hae predicted that, but everyone knew his was a shakey proposition. At worst, I think most thought he’d be up and down – have good starts followed by bad ones.
As for what the Cubs should do, I say they should go after Bedard. Why not? He’s going on the DL again, but should be back for one or two starts before the trade deadline. He would have to be really cheap, but if the Cubs could get lighting in a bottle from him, think of the possibilities.

While I think this rotation is better with a healthy Harden, I still think it was one of the best in the Majors. After all, we have the best record in the league and we’re in first place.

No contradiction
You can not think the Cubs needed another front line starter and still be happy that they got one. I don’t see the contradiction.

and I was never a fan of Hill and his 5 inning performances..
What the Cubs need is more bullpen insurance. Marmol and Howry have been shakey and Wood has a history of injury problems.

Wow dude.
I dont know if i can wrap my head around this whole “baseball thing.” its pretty difficult. I mean, you have to be about 6 years old to play baseball afterall…
what a effing brain you have. who would have thought having another ace pitcher would make our rotation better?!? Those baseball smarts of yours are impressive. Who was the big #1 pitcher we should have signed in the offseason… Santana didnt want to come here.
I’ll tell you what, you might wanna work on those people skills. the bob’s would not be pleased.
Also to answer the intellegent part of your post. I agree with you. It would be nice if we could turn Marquis into a solid RH bat. That being said, we can live with what we have… i mean we do have the best offense in baseball even with ONEDEC in the bench role.
by cubbieson44th on Jul 10, 2008 1:49 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
actually
santana said he would have liked to come here. but hey, we didn’t have the pieces at all – the twins got some really nice young players
other than that, yeah – this was a bit of a nasty post. we all know baseball in different ways, and just as it was unfair for some to call lemon20pie names, its totally unfair for him to come back like this…gosh be civil guys

The cubs are the most overrated team out there, What a mangled mess of clueless players that only worry about themselves and their stats and have no idea how to approach an ab. Hey lemon.
I never saw some of the stuff you wrote previous. (Northsider, thanks for the above quote.) Lemon- you really showed your ignorance with that above post. Cubs fans are annoying? Supposed Cubs fans who trot out their opinions as fact, saying that this team is a joke, with clueless players who only think of themselves are ignorant. I said it. Not annoying. IGNORANT. Please stay away. It’s easy to say stuff like that when you’re not the one in the batters box, playing 162 games a year. Baseball players are freaks of nature. They have to do things that are not comparable to what athletes have to do in any other sport. Use your brain. Anyone with half a brain knew going into this year that this team was way above average. You are painfully ignorant.

Like you said
...here, in this post, “talk is cheap.”
It’s easy to remember what you were right about and forget what you were wrong about. It’s called confirmation bias.
Let’s see what else you predicted!
“[Dempster is] gonna suck as a starter”
“Wood is a goner”
“Fukudome… [and] any of the [other] endless rumors, will not be enough to put the Cubs ahead of the DBacks or the Rockies.” (Cubs are currently 10 wins better than the D-Backs and 16 better than the Rockies)
“I just don’t see Soto being able to put up amazing numbers”
“Soto will not win the ROY award”
“Theriot… will prove soon enough how he’s not a regular MLB player”
Here you claim the 2008 Cubs are only 4 wins better than the 2007 Cubs (current pace: 12 games better)
So while it’s impressive that you’re flexible enough to, um, toot your own horn so enthusiastically, let’s just make it clear that you aren’t exactly the Baseball Swami either.

I've Been Wrong About Stuff
I thought Dempster would be a mediocre at best starting pitcher. I thought the Cubs should have kept him in the bullpen. There’s also this guy the Cubs got that was released by the Padres that I thought was a washed up, over the hill, has been. What happened with Jim Edmonds? I thought getting Derrek Lee for Hee Seop Choi was a mistake. I felt hiring Lou Piniella instead of Joe Girardi was dumb. I predicted Mark Prior would be the Cubs’ best pitcher since Fergie Jenkins. Well, you can see why no MLB team has contacted me regarding player or manager moves. I’m just some moron who posts on bleedcubbieblue.com.
