I have a question for anyone who may know!
I’m not getting ahead of myself, just curious how this works:
Say Harden goes on to pitch spectacularly for the rest of the season, is he eligible for the Cy Young? Just curious if that’s possible for any pitcher changing leagues.

...such as if the tickets turn out to be bogus or something. StubHub offers guarantees. And I think if the game is canceled (rained out, whatever), on StubHub you get a full refund, not just a refund of the face value.
well
I paid via Paypal on my credit card, so if I’m defrauded, I can get the money back. If the game’s rained out, I’ll get replacement tix. I don’t think the face value of these tickets are that low, $65 each is a pretty good price.

Sabathia debut: 5 IP, 2 earned runs, 5 hits, 5 walks, 5 K’s
Harden debut: 5.1 IP 0 earned runs, 5 hits, 3 walks, 10 ks
Brewers gave up their future… we gave up average players… who’s the winner in those trades?
one game, dude.
And the Brewers’ future isn’t necessarily given away … they get a ton of draft picks.

Well, as of game one, we are, obviously.
But there’s a lot of baseball left. It will be interesting to see if that keeps up. However, given that Up 4 doesn’t lose stat…and the Cubs offense, this could be ridiculous.

Hendry would really go after C.C. this winter before the Harden trade, but now if Harden remains healthy I think they pick up his option and I’m not sure they need to spend more on C.C. but then again we could let Demp walk for draft picks.

If Rich can come back to form
I think we’d have too many SP, signed for much, much less than what CC is going to sign for. Save that money and go out and get a Center fielder. Or, perhaps, sign CC and trade for a CF?

I really
think we should give Pie another chance before spending too much on a CF. Pie was starting to hit before he was sent down if he could cut down his strikeouts then he would be a great everyday option.

He won’t get a chance to prove it this year with Johnson and Edmonds. And I just don’t see Hendry going into next year with Pie as the expected starting CF. Its not every year you get a chance to pick up Edmonds and Johnson type players a month into the season. We were very lucky to get those guys.

It's a byproduct of two things
a) Not great middle relief.
b) failure to take advantage of multiple inning middle relievers. There is no reason that Gaudin couldn’t have pitched another there. And I’m exhausted, so it’s escaping me, but there was a similary example in the past week.

Calm down everyone
This is getting beyond ridiculous. Calling Lou a crappy manager because he managed a bad game saying the team is not a winning team for playing a bad game.
And Theriot (of course I remember how the homerun lovers don’t value OBP) of course is the worst player in the history of the game.
Go Cubs
But why did Lou use so many pitchers....
in a game that was well in hand? Five in the first eight innings.

in there for a short amount of time. But for whatever reason, Marmol had an extra long leash.
lou isnt a crappy manager
but he SERIOUSLY needs to rethink his bullpen use. using 5 different relievers a game is recipe for landing 1 that is having an off day and messing it up. let gaudin pitch 2 innings or hell….EVEN THREE!!
by WUSTLCubsFan on Jul 12, 2008 3:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe this is just me
But one of the reasons I’m so mad about using today as a Marmol head day (and I’ve advocated those in the past frequently) is that I feel like it’s really disrespectful to the awesome outing you just got from your new guy.
Does that make any sense?
These are the saddest of possible words: "Tinker to Evers to Chance"

here we go.
extras.
"We expect to win. We go out to win. So we're just living up to our own expectations." Derrek Lee, 5/29/08
The reason people are pissed
is this is the kind of game that can start a slide. Lou needs to look at the way he uses his bullpen. It’s just not smart the way he uses guys for .2 innings when they are LONG relievers/.
There is probably only one complaint I have about Lou
and it’s bullpen use. I don’t get it. It reminds me of the bullpen collapse game 1 against AZ last year in the NLDS, that killed me too.

I like the current Harden strategy.
Let him get his win, build up a comfortable lead and take him out.
wow marmol u need so help fast
did it look like to you guys he threw way more sliders than fastballs. come on if you have a fastball at 94-96 use it, u don’t need to use the slider for everything. Its just frustrating, although he is a cub i’m glad the fans booed him badly. it might be a wakeup call
o btw i forgot to mention that lou pinella might be a good manager at some things but
he doesn’t know how to handle the bullpen. SEVEN run lead and you use everybody except your closer and your long reliever. That’s just stupid. There’s a reason why u have chad gaudin and there’s no excuse for using him for 2/3 of an inning. I woulda put him out there for the next inning. Lou is just stupid when it comes to pitchers, and neil cotts a third of an inning just not smart whatsoever.

Santo is so fun to listen to....
..... this game and so many others, he leaves nothing on the table. The lows of the ninth and the joyful giggling of the 11th. He’s what it is all about.
Santo Forever!
Concerned
As nice as it has to see them pull out a win after that horrible 9th, I’m pretty concerned right now about the pen. Marmol in his current state is unusable not only in close games, but in any game (as his performance with a 7-2 lead today demonstrated). And Wood seems unavailable – a blister situation – and let’s hope it’s not more than that. So the two relievers who proved most valuable the first three months of the season are question marks. I’m not panicking – I’m assuming Wood is OK and Marmol we already knew was having troubles. And we do have Gaudin. Marshall looked great today in relief. But still, I’m concerned.
"Hey hey, kiss it goodbye! That one's in Milwaukee! Man oh man did he hit it. Isn't that something?" - Lou Boudreau, May 17, 1979
WTF???
I checked the score earlier, saw 7-0, and was happy. And I come to find out that Marmol gives up 5 and they have to win in extra innings?
Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Marmol? This wasn’t even walks that killed him. He needs to figure it out, cause I sure as hell don’t trust Bob Howry as our second best reliever. You need good relief to do well in the playoffs.
