Marshall is calming me down.
But it makes me sad to know he was up there and had this in him while Marmol was throwing it away. sigh
These are the saddest of possible words: "Tinker to Evers to Chance"
Don't forget marshall is just now converting from a starter to reliever
SO it takes him A LOT longer to warm up.

I think Lou got caught there...Wood became unavailible with the blister
...and with the lead, he assumed that Marmol could close it down. The two terrible plays by Theriot didnt help matters.

That would ruin him for good.
He needs to work out his problems and he can’t do that sitting for 15 day.
Let him take over for Marmol for a couple weeks.
I’m dead serious. He can platoon it with Gaudin and we’ll have a L/R set up thing going.
These are the saddest of possible words: "Tinker to Evers to Chance"
To me
To me the dumbest part about bringing Marmol in with a 5 run lead is he’s been off since Wednesday. If we didn’t use him today and wound up without him tomorrow it would have been a chance for a 9 day rest.
Go Cubs

now. let’s win this thing.
"We expect to win. We go out to win. So we're just living up to our own expectations." Derrek Lee, 5/29/08
Marmol,
He has good stuff, even great stuff at times, but something has happened. He cannot seem to get that first pitch over for a strike, then he just loses it for some reason. I would be for sending him down, but only for a short while. He is a terrific pitcher who has lost something, but that doesn’t mean he is useless for us the rest of the way.
Another thing, I have heard scouts say that Lou’s biggest weakness is his overuse of the bulpen, when he was with Cincinnati he could get away with it, but with Seattle it led to their eventual downfall. Let’s hope Lou learns from this and makes the proper adjustments in the future and not be a stubborn hard—head about the bullpen.
Don't blow it boys!
Mchanic problems
Reminds me somewhat of the young Wood. He would be wild at time, but also dominant.
I point to his reliance on the slider
Just give them the heat for the love of god! It was not hittable in the past. But, he has been trying to finesse too much. Just go with the fastball to setup the slider. Not the other way around.
Everyone was saying that overusing Marmol in April/May would bite us in the ass
and it looks like they were right

One thing for sure,
unlike Cub teams in the past, this Cub team will not quit. In other years, even our winning years, something like this happens and we would fall apart, not this year. Note how the guys are fighting back.
By the way, this won’t effect Hardin, he’s a professional who knows these things do happen. He’s probably more concerned about Carlos Marmol than he is about losing the win.

Like someone said earlier a win is a win. I would have rather one this game pretty early but i’ll always be happy with a ugly win then a pretty loss. This team just never quits, that my favorite thing about it. Your bullpen can’t pitch perfect every game and today was a great example of that but we’ll be just fine.

For those few fans who said "we will lose"
after the 9th, I want to remind you that this is not the 2006 Cubs. These guys don’t give up and neither should you.
It was great to see that the vast majority of th BCBers kept the faith. This is a special team.
I just hope Lou can diversify his use of arms in the bullpen over these last 3+ months because we have a LONG, LONG way to go. I think the shakiness of these last few games is a warning sign to Lou that he can’t keep going to the same guys in these games where we are up by 5+ runs.
Trust other arms, Lou. They won’t let you down.

one way we're different from 2006

I was trying to listen on the radio
did marmol LOOK as bad as his performance?
I was all on the “Lou is overusing him” bandwagon earlier, but then he had several days off and completely lost it. I just don’t know now how you get him back and locked in.

it was a tough spot but...
sometimes you let the guy fix his mess. Lou had to have a plan in case it became a tie game we needed to have some arms in the bullpen. Woody wasn’t available so he stuck with him.

I agree.
Very tough spot. If he hadn’t already used Howry or Cotts maybe he does pull ‘im. But with only the long guys left and pitcher’s spot due up in the bottom… :sigh:

No. He is also blaming Marmol
for booting that ball down the line where he tried to make a spectacular play instead of taking the easy out and just giving up a run. Lou felt if we took an easy out and gave up one run there, the inning would have never got out of hand. He said Marmol’s boot of that ball was his undoing, not his pitching.
...interesting.
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
Wait...When Did Marmol Boot The Ball?
Was it the play at first when Lee caught the rebound?
Eat More Katsui
no..
he was talking about when there was one out and a runner at third a Giant hit a tapper up the first baseline. Marmol went over to field it but looked at the runner at third then misplayed the ball so it was runners at 1st and 3rd 1 out rather than 2 out and no one on.
"Go Cubs Go"
No matter what,
we need Carlos Marmol to get back to the Carlos of old. He is a valuable piece to our championshiip hopes. I hope the manager and coaches do some “burning of the midnight oil” sort of speak, in the coming weeks to help figure out what has gone wrong and get it fixed. We need him!

very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we’d make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really
