Can't wait to hear the press v. Lou about the use of Marmol.....

any chance he goes ballistic if a member of the press asks him why he left him in so long???

by razzpunk on Jul 12, 2008 3:34 PM CDT reply actions

I think Lou got caught there...Wood became unavailible with the blister

...and with the lead, he assumed that Marmol could close it down. The two terrible plays by Theriot didnt help matters.

I think he should apologize to Hardin and promise to reevaluate the Marmol situation after the breaki.

by slcathena on Jul 12, 2008 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Marmol,

He has good stuff, even great stuff at times, but something has happened. He cannot seem to get that first pitch over for a strike, then he just loses it for some reason. I would be for sending him down, but only for a short while. He is a terrific pitcher who has lost something, but that doesn’t mean he is useless for us the rest of the way.
Another thing, I have heard scouts say that Lou’s biggest weakness is his overuse of the bulpen, when he was with Cincinnati he could get away with it, but with Seattle it led to their eventual downfall. Let’s hope Lou learns from this and makes the proper adjustments in the future and not be a stubborn hard—head about the bullpen.

One thing for sure,

unlike Cub teams in the past, this Cub team will not quit. In other years, even our winning years, something like this happens and we would fall apart, not this year. Note how the guys are fighting back.

By the way, this won’t effect Hardin, he’s a professional who knows these things do happen. He’s probably more concerned about Carlos Marmol than he is about losing the win.

after the 9th, I want to remind you that this is not the 2006 Cubs. These guys don’t give up and neither should you.

It was great to see that the vast majority of th BCBers kept the faith. This is a special team.

I just hope Lou can diversify his use of arms in the bullpen over these last 3+ months because we have a LONG, LONG way to go. I think the shakiness of these last few games is a warning sign to Lou that he can’t keep going to the same guys in these games where we are up by 5+ runs.

i think that the problem with marmol is he was not in the right situation…kinda like a closer…dont send him out there when it is not his role.

gaudin should have stayed in longer than 2 outs.

we overcame adversity, and we can celebrate this walkoff win. and can have a sweep going into the ASB.

The one where

he tried to pick up the swinging bunt towards first that he misplayed

by Morg98 on Jul 12, 2008 4:30 PM CDT up reply actions

was that the muffed barehanded play?

didn’t result in a run but it did let someone reach that shouldn’t have… if i remember correctly.

Looked like a tough play to me, though.

he would have had the out at first easily..

he looked at the runner at 3rd and it messed him up.

but instead one on, one in, one out.

I think lou's putting on the good face for the media

I’m sure he’s letting marmol know what he thinks behind the scenes. The one thing as a coach you NEVER do is lambast your players in front of the media.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential...

very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we’d make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really

No freaking clock…..not over until the last out. Can’t take anything for granted. The only game where the defense has the ball….all the strategy. The greatest f’ng game in the world!!

Anyone watching game on Fox now?

no cable, so I’m getting the over-the-air signal and it looks weird – the live feed has a frame-by-frame stuttering look to it, kinda like you see on a replay or when they’re showing clips on TWIB.

then again, maybe it’s my eyes going bad…

Bob does that courtesy glance at Len when Len introduces him at the beginning of each telecast. Quickly turns his head, smiles, and then snaps his head back and faces the camera. LOL

and clearly hold each other in high regard… no awkward silences between them, just that warm-hearted banter. Considering they are joined at the hip all season I’m happy for them and for us.

Marmol

Just an observation. But after seeing the 9th inning lowlights on Gameday, it wasn’t exactly a case of the Giants creaming Marmol all over the place. I saw mostly bloopers and seeing eye groundballs made worse by some poor fielding decisions, including of course by Marmol himself.
