Why isn’t Cedeno starting? Is he in the witness protection program?
Or Ward? What would be wrong with the concept of playing our 2B at 2B instead of RF?

no, i should rephrase. Some cub fans are idiots. Ryan Theriot is not more valuable than
Edmonds, Lee, DeRosa, etc.
I am impressed by edmonds so far
Dlee I expected to have a good year. But, Edmonds has been quite a impressive surprise thus far. MVP probably not over Dlee but he gets some good knocks at times when they are needed.
or maybe just the haters are actually wrong

by SouthsideCUBSfan on Jul 13, 2008 3:00 PM CDT up reply actions
closed minded?
I’ve watched him play, and looked at the stats. I’ve tried to be very open minded. But to say he’s been more valuable than edmonds and derosa is sick.
I imagine part of it is:
The fact that Edmonds didn’t play for half the season, and
DeRosa has sucked for the past couple of weeks
I think it's a backlash against all the Theriot love
My take is that he is neither (a) as good as the lovers think nor (b) as bad as the haters think. Thus, someone posts something about how great he is, someone responds with how much he sucks, positions harden, no one sees the reality.
Just what I think, FWIW

True. Hard to sweep a MLB team, no matter how bad
Only historically bad teams don’t win at least 1/3 of their games
Paging my friendly neighborhood SABRmetrician...
‘Splain this:
Riot has more PAs than DeRo (387-358), a higher OBP (.396 – .378), and he normally hits at the top of the order - in front of the big RBI guys - but…
DeRo has scored 56 runs to Riot’s 52. That doesn’t make sense! What’s going on?
(FWIW, DLee has 63, Dome and Ramy 59 each…)
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
I would also imagine slugging numbers have something to do with this
Easier to score when you hit more 2Bs (or HRs, obviously) then when you single a lot
Plus CS, and being the first part of a lot of double plays
And yeah you’re absolutely right – SLG has a lot to do with it as well.
It's easier to score from second than first.
It’s harder to score when you get thrown out five feet from the bag.
Do you have any "outs on the bases" stats for this year?
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
OK
It just seems weird that the “table setter” (who hasn’t missed many games) is only fifth on the team in runs.
Maybe there is no logical explanation?
DeRo usually bats 6th or 7th—no genuine run producers behind him…

A Thought On Lincecum
I read the SI article and apparently he’s always talking to himself about his mechanics, always thinking on the mound. So would it behoove the Cubs to do stuff like call time-out, go back to get new bats, ask the ump to make Lincecum take off his necklace, and other things to break his concentration?

Tip our hats and enjoy the days off…....we will have the best record in the bigs at the break….at least a 4 1/2 game lead and Soriano returning with Harden for the whole second half…..not bummed if we lose to a great pitcher like this
Agreed, but not over yet
Good chance Lincecum comes out now (he’s at 101 pitches). We’ll see.

Just trying to minimize the whining around here if we lose....can't feel bad when ya lose to a great performance like that..
Cubs lose 2-1?
Who knows. No biggie.

Assuming that he played it into a single (and didn't catch it)...
It would be at least 3-1. The third run may or may not have scored in the inning, but the other two probably do…

Yknow, with all these "can we get him"s
(which I’m guilty of, too), we’re kind of starting to sound like NYY fans…
Soriano is out for at least another 10-14 days after the break, but he will be back soon
Lou made it sound like it would probably be the end of the month.
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
I had heard the Arizona series
Is it going to be beyond that?

The 3-gamer against the Marlins
How stupid is it to have yet another three-game homestand. Although they do have four at Milwaukee (almost like a homestand, no long travel), followed by nine in a row at home.

He is not scheduled to take batting practice agin until Houston
If that goes well, he is going to be encouraged to take a minor league stint once his wrist is fine. So given that math, it sounds like he misses at least 2 series if not 3 after the break. I thought I heard Lou say he was hoping to have him for our first home stand.
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
*sigh*
That’s that.
We’ll have to get it done in the 8th/9th.

Not like they haven’t done that before…but it has been a while.
Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.
We can do it
Lincecum showed some cracks in the armor earlier. HBP, that long at bat to Dome. Over 100. Now’s the time to light him up!

I think it might work
the problem I think is he takes too many pitches but he’s getting strikes becaus DLee follows him in the 5 whole he is more likely to get balls and therefore not have to battle out of an 0-2 count

Yes
I don’t get the love for him batting 2. His stats definitely don’t show it.
Go All In and Enjoy The Ride.
For now with Soriano out maybe
but when soriano goes back to one, theriot to 2 then dome should go to 5

as long as he doesn’t get “homer happy” and hits too many pop-ups or starts King all over the place.

How awesome was it to beat Brian Wilson yesterday?
Anybody else remember his ridiculous arm motion when he beat us in SF last week? I wanted to kill him.
Yeah, he's ugly, but he's still awesome. haha

*shock*
A reliever is being used for more than one inning? What is the world coming to?
Zambrano viciously attacked a pair of watercoolers for the crime of being within his line of vision. It was a classic battle of man versus inanimate object.
Sabathia going in for another inning?
Yost really wants to get the most out of him in the next three months!

He seems to hit all his spots and great late movement.
how the hell was that a strike on ward?
