Winter Classic: Blackhawks vs. Red Wings at Wrigley Field Officially Announced
Well, to no surprise it's now official. The NHL has announced that the 3rd outdoor NHL game will be played at Wrigley Field Jan 1, 2009 at 12:00 P.M. Blackhawk season ticket holders will have the option to purchase tickets for the game. There is a FAQ about the game in the link below. There is a specific question about Cubs season ticket holders ability to get tickets, and the answer is:
"The Blackhawks have no information regarding Cubs season ticketholders and access to the Winter Classic."
You can also sign up for email updates about the game. Sounds pretty "cool"

Woo Woo WOO!!
Go Wings!
(let’s see what that comment starts).
I spent over half my life in Michigan, had Wings season tickets for several years and played hockey in school and rec leagues for many years. Been a Wings fan for a very long time. As far as I’m concerned, Wings/Hawks is a great rivalry and the game at Wrigley should be fantastic!

Well...
... since the poster of this FanPost is invited to the next season ticket holder lunch, perhaps you could ask about availability of these tickets for Cub season ticket holders.
Thanks!

Done and done
Right after I ask about the lack of Kosher Hot Dog vendors in the Upper Deck.

Don't bother the front office with vendor questions...
The reason that you don’t get any kosher vendors where you’re at is because all of the hot dogs upstairs come out of the left field commisary, which is around aisle 402 or so. It’s really hard to make it all the way around upstairs, especially during the game, unless you take double loads. And, we’re not allowed to take double loads. Further, if a vendor does make it to you, I’d be REAL skeptical about how long that hot dogs been in that tub.
Easy solution: F-U-M, I think you’ve said your tickets are 529 or 429. If you run down the ramp b/t innings on your way to or from the trough, I’d love to sell ya one of my fine Bests Kosher.
HAPPY 100th ANNIVERSARY, CUBS FANS!!!!

no no no, you don't understand
We get plenty of Ball Park Hot Dog vendors. I myself don’t indulge, but Ben, that’s a different story. He often attempts and fails the man challenge: 9 innings, 9 hot dogs, 9 beers. One time he did 5 and 5, then took 3rd place in a brat eating contest at Cubby Bear that evening.
The issue isn’t the lack of hot dogs, but the lack of Best’s Kosher hot dogs. Sure we have Alex when he’s not vending Estilio Viejo (Old Style) or Chocolate Rain selling $3.75 Ball Park hot dogs, but Best’s Kosher are just another echelon of encased meats. To quote Ben: “Kosher hot dogs are at least 2 orders of magnitude better than Ball Park hot dogs.” On the treat that Ben and I get to sit in the 100 level, he is in, pardon the expression, hot dog heaven.
The only hot dog I will eat is from the stand in RF: One Lance Johnson with heartburn.

I'm there
I don’t care what I have to do. I have college loans to pay and possibly a move to another state to suck up enough money. This is a must do. I went to the Wisconsin/Ohio State game at Lambeau Field and it was sweet as hell. Easily one of the best sporting events I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to a lot, whether sheer numbers or the variety. This will be a must see, whether you like hockey or not and wrigley or not. I just hope there will be a decent amount tickets available to the general public. Like I said, I will do anything to get there. Lock your doors if I don’t get tickets.
Off topic: Wrigley does serve Labatt’s Blue, so they do have a hockey beer ready to go if you’re willing to pay six bones for it.

I got interviewed on this topic...
... as did Maddog from ACB and someone named Ryan Corrazza in this Yahoo column called “Puck Daddy”.

Nice interview
Maybe for a tradition instead of a celebrity singing they could have celeb zamboni drivers?

Jeez.
That Maddog fella sure seemed annoyed to be taking part in it.
I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling, so why don't we just ignore each other til we go away.

One thing will be odd:
seeing that much red in Wrigley.

LOL
True. But you can still root against the team wearing the red shirts (presuming the Red Wings wear those that day).

nope
the NHL switched again, so the home team wears the colored sweater, and the away team wears the white sweater.
But, they might have new sweaters made up for the game. Last year, the Sabres and Pens wore “throwback” sweaters, similar to what they wore a long time ago. Though, the Hawks and Wings sweaters have stayed basically the same throughout their history, so maybe they won’t get new sweaters.

Hold on there, you young'uns
The current jersey, even though it has been worn for a long time—goes back to the 50s.
There’s the “Barber Pole” Jersey, of the 40’s:

or , they could wear this:

There's been several variations of the existing sweaters
since the team moved from the barber pole’s; though the changes are somewhat subtle.
Its unfortunate the licensing got in the way a dozen-15 years or so ago, because when Gunzo’s did them, I thought they were better.
The red at home the past few seasons is just like it was in the 50’s. The white at home was prevelant was common for a few decades until just recently.

sorry
what I meant to say was that the sweater has not changed drastically, or atleast as much as the Pens(blue to black) and Sabres(totally different “mascot” image). Sorry for the confusion, but believe me, I know the history of the hawks and wings sweaters, and just did a poor job of explaining myself.

My guess is...
... that they will wear “throwback” sweaters of some kind.
And why is it that hockey teams call their shirts “sweaters” instead of “jerseys”?

because once upon a time...
they were sweaters.

Yes, I know that.
But they aren’t sweaters NOW. Why still call them that?

this sounds so cool
When I was a kid playing outside with my friends, there would be foul language and screaming coming from my house – my parents were watching hockey !!!
Pictures of Stan Makita and Bobby Hull adorned the living room. My parents had a blast.
I think I should pick up the mantle.
