Dustin Eglseder passes

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Dustin Eglseder, the young man who won last year's "Ultimate 7th Inning Stretch Contest". Dustin was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and, according to the article, had undergone a recent surgery. I know he'll be watching down and cheering on the Cubs...

please dont flame me for this

i’m really really sorry another person has passed on and now is heaven.

but please cant we get back to baseball discussion. i’m begging. the diaries of dying, surgeries, and other teams injuries are extremely off topic. I love this blog.

i come here daily for cubs and baseball talk. I turn on the news and its murder, suicide, robberies etc. I come here to get away from the normal day to day stuff and to follow my hobby(baseball) not for sad stuff like this.

sorry if this offends anyone but cubs baseball is what i come here for not sugeries, sickness, and death.

I agree

some of us maybe interested in a subject like this since I did follow the story last year

chicago cubs baseball blog!!! no need for f bombs either

That's right on both counts.

The f bomb was unnecessary. However, as you point out, this is a Cubs baseball blog. The post here is about someone who was a big Cubs fan, who won a Cubs-related contest last year that we all discussed at great length at the time.

I don’t have a problem with this post. If you do, pass it by without comment. Thank you.

I am sorry for your loss...

... just let’s try to keep the language fairly clean here.

LAMEST POST OF THE MONTH

Nanika Ga Okoru!

Harsh man...

if this was someone you loved, you would feel differently and certainly wouldn’t appreciate your own post.

This is very sad and because the people here care about others is what makes this a nice place to be. For a lot of people here, BCB is a source of support. If you don’t like supporting people during hard times then, sorry for you.

I am not “flaming” you, just a bit surprised how insensitive you are to this. You could have just passed it by.

Calm down.

not like that at all

i swear to you but recent life experiences of my own—baseball is my break from reality. my joy is the cubs and talking the cubs with other fans. I pray daily that those in need have their needs touched by the lord my savior. but would like to just stick to baseball here if at all possible. spouse surgeries, cancer, dying etc is a very sad thing indeed but I feel as if our pasttime blog is not the place for it thats all.

I understand

I don’t think you are a bad person, just that you don’t necessarily see this blog the same way as others do. I think people often reach out for personal support or they simply want to share with people they are familiar with. This is a classic case of “just don’t read it”.

The title clearly illuistrates what is inside. You can simply move past it.

Calm down.

IIRC his 7th inning stretch moment

came immediately after the amazing Sam Fuld catch + outfield assist—is that right? So Dustin would have all-of-a-sudden been called on to sing, rather than having a few more moments to prepare mentally. Really, two very memorable moments right on top of each other.

So sorry for this young man and his family – our thoughts are with you.

Cancer

Cancer is an evil evil disease. It must be stopped. I hate it.

I’ve lost 3 friends this year alone. All under 40, all parents of young children, (2 moms and 1 dad)..

Go Cubs

Took me by surprise

since I did not know he was sick. Just read about it online in the Chicago Tribune. Really very sad.

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings. ~Earl Wilson
