The Big Hoff to be recalled
Paul Sullivan is reporting that Micah Hoffpauir will be recalled from Iowa to take the vacated reserve outfielder spot that was left when Matt Murton was traded to Oakland in the Rich Harden deal.
Sullivan speculates that, obviously with 13 pitchers on the roster right now, either Kevin Hart or Neal Cotts will be sent down to Iowa to complete the roster move.
I'd opt to send down Hart, since Cotts has been pretty darn effective since his last call-up. Plus, Scott Eyre is currently on the DL.

Agreed
Keep Cotts up here. He has looked really good lately.

However, Hart has good stuff and should benefit from facing ML hitting.
One day I hope to come up with something worthy of this space.

Keep Cotts
Hoffpauier will only be here a few days until Soriano is back.

I like that Hoffpauir is described as filling an outfielder spot.

Yes
but he’s also described as replacing Matt Murton’s spot, and it’s not like Murton spent much time in the outfield when he was on the roster.

Hoffpauir hits lefthanded.
That’s about all Lou needs to hear.

No surprise here.
Cotts has been capable, Hart not so much. The Cubs need two lefties (Sean Marshall the other) in the pen.
As noted, Hoffpauir will be up for one week, presuming Alfonso Soriano meets the current schedule and is activated next Thursday.

I agree.
I really want to like Kevin Hart, but he keeps giving up runs. Cotts hasn’t been entirely consistent either, but he’s shown the capacity to get the job done, and he’s a nice option against left-handed hitters. Let’s hope the Hoff can bring some of that Triple A pop to his second cup o’ joe.

this is stupid.
Pie is an outfielder. He’s tearing up AAA pitching. Why is he not brought up?

because
you don’t bring up the guy just to ride pine for a few days. We’re bringing up Hoff to be a bat off the bench and maybe give an additional spot start, nothing more
When Pie is recalled the minor league season should either be over or we should be committed to playing him everyday against RH pitching

And he'll be sent back down when Soriano come back
Teams are more likely to do the AAA-majors shuffle with non-prospects.

get rid of Chad Fox
and let Pie have his spot on the roster.

That's not the issue
Fox isn’t on the 25 man roster. Why bring up Pie to sit for a week or two until Soriano returns? He needs to play. Hoffpaiur isn’t a prospect so having him sit on the bench and occasionally pinch hit.

I thinK Pie should be back with the team.
Why put a non-out-fielder in LF when there’s a perfectly good player? Then, when Soriano comes back, put Reed, Edmonds and Pie into a platoon rotation, and use whoever’s not playing to pinch-hit/pinch-run.

Why is Fox even in the dugout. The guy has been done, feel good story or not. This is no Josh Hamilton.

Doesn't make sense
Ward and Hoffpauir are exactly the same player, except that Ward has more experience. I guess that demonstrates how little depth we have in position players at AAA. Trade away Murton and Patterson and there’s not much left.

I'm not sure I'd say they're the same player
Hoffpauir is worse in the outfield (neither are good but Ward is considerably better) and Ward is one of the better pinch hitters in the game.
