Huston Street to the Brewers?

http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/default.aspx

San Francisco - I just got a call from a contact in Brevard County who told me that word was circulating there that outfielder Darren Ford had been involved in a trade for Oakland closer Huston Street.

Then, Ford was pulled from Brevard's lineup before its game against Clearwater. Players often are pulled from the lineup when they've been put into a trade. The Brewers did the same thing with Matt LaPorta in Huntsville before trading him to Cleveland in the CC Sabathia deal.

The fact that Ford was pulled from the lineup makes me believe something could be up. He has no injury that I know of.

GM Doug Melvin is here with the club, so I'll go ask him if it's true and get back to you.

Update

San Francisco – The Brewers definitely have some kind of trade in the works but I was just told by a club source that it is not for Oakland closer Huston Street (who is pitching badly by the way).

I’m still trying to get hold of GM Doug Melvin, who was nowhere to be found after the game. But Brevard County outfielder Darren Ford, a speedster, was pulled from the team’s lineup before the game today and word was circulating there that he had been traded.

I’ll see what I can find out but this might be something that’s not announced until tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Just a reader

Haven’t posted here much but I read Al’s posts daily.

Another update:

San Francisco – Whatever deal the Brewers are working on, I’m told there is no plan to announce it before tomorrow. And I’m now getting word that it might be with the Giants.

If Class A Brevard County centerfielder Darren Ford is the only player involved, it would be a minor deal for either a bench player (Ray Durham?) or a relief pitcher (Jack Taschner?).

Ford, 22, is one of the fastest players in the minors. He is batting only .230 at Brevard but has swiped 48 bases in 59 attempts. He stole 67 bases last season while splitting time at Class A West Virginia and Brevard.

Hard to say right now if the deal includes more than Ford. He was scratched from the Brevard lineup today with word circulating around that club that he had been traded.

I’ll follow up later today if I hear anything but this might not break until tomorrow. And it might turn out to be a minor deal. Oakland closer Huston Street blew another save today in New York and I heard the Brewers’ scouting reports on him are not good.

A quick Google search reveals that these are the words of Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reporter Tom Haudricourt.

Thank you.

A link from the original poster would have been nice, or a quotebox, or SOMETHING saying it wasn’t his.

brew crew

these guys are going for it.do or die.the way the cubs are starting to tank will give both the cards and brewers ample chances to grab 1st

What did he say that was wrong?

Admittedly, I’ve no idea what NOMAR’s past posting history is, so he could very well be a troll. However, nothing he said in this post seems false.

The crew are going for it, because this offseason they’re losing Sheets, CC and maybe Prince. The Cubs are playing poorly, which gives both MIL and STL a window to go for it.

Wow...

were you one of the frequent posters after the Cubs had a bad opening series this year?

GIVE ME A BREAK!

DEROSA: How did it feel when you're sitting in Baton Rouge and it came across the ticker that Mark DeRosa had just signed to play second base with the Chicago Cubs.

THERIOT: In all honestly, when I saw it, I really felt like punching you right in the mouth and or breaking your leg.

Wishful thinking?
starting to tank

2 losses is starting to tank? That is no doubt what you want and maybe it will turn out to be that but 2 losses are just 2 losses at this point.

Fine, then.

Post the link and put the text in a quote box. Otherwise it appears to have been coming from you.

It’s simple courtesy, and the rules here. Most posters have no trouble following them.

Thank you.

Seems the trade may be for 2B RAY DURHAM.

I had heard the Brewers were interested in Durham.

So this might very well happen.

I've heard this too

I hope it isn’t true. But if he keeps pitching like he’s been it might be a good thing.
