Pitching Matchup vs. Milwaukee Next Week

As I'm attending the Cubs-Brewers game at Miller Park on Monday night next week, I thought I would look ahead at the pitching matchup that night and for the rest of the series.  Assuming the pattern holds and no one is skipped, the matchups look like this.  (Looks like I'll see Sabathia Monday night.)

MONDAY:  Lilly vs. Sabathia

TUESDAY:  Zambrano vs. Sheets

WEDNESDAY:  Dempster vs. Parra

THURSDAY:  Harden vs. McClung

Should be some good matchups, the current 1-4 pitchers on both teams.

What's the point?

Seriously. That’s 6 games away. At the rate of posted fanpost’s around here, this will be off the main page in 45 minutes. Let’s discuss what the ACTUAL pitching matchups will be Sunday or Monday. Speculating on the projected matchups for a series a week away seems very silly to me.

My .02

Atleast starting a fanpost about the projected matchups...

......seems silly to me.

My apologies

Forgive me for looking ahead at a series next week against our toughest rival (screw St. Louis) and the one that fought us to the wire for last year’s division title and will probably do the same this year. Clearly as a fan I’m not afforded the luxury of looking ahead and I should follow the player’s lead and take “one game at a time”. Of course it was “silly” of me to project that far ahead, maybe I should’ve followed proper BCB etiquette as defined by High_Tight_Fastball and simply bitch and moan about other people’s posts.

argh

go read something else then.

Before Edmonds: 24-16, (.600); With Edmonds: 34-24 (.586)
Edmonds with Cubs: .270 / .369 / .569 10 HR 30 RBI

No need to be an ass about it.

Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.

by sue369 on Jul 21, 2008 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Call it constructive criticism.

and call me a concerned reader about the fate of BCB. The clutter of the fanpost section is sending BCB down the road to a future Cubs.com message board, which is very, very bad.

Nothing wrong with this fanpost

Speculating about the pitching matchups is what fans do. I share some of High_Tight_Fastball’s concerns about the overall tone of this site, but this fanpost has nothing to do with that.

I like the fanpost

I am all about projections… looks like four great matchups.. kinda was hoping we would miss sabathia this first time around… have fun at the game!

isnt this a place to talk cubs? why so much hate?

by cubs2410 on Jul 21, 2008 3:42 PM CDT reply actions

it is good forward thinking and part of the "game strategy"

You don’t think Piniella & Co. did not look ahead and set up their rotation to put their best four up against what Milwaukee did as well.

The thing is the Cards and Brewers have a four game set on the road …hope there is a split…..Ha….then they have play those pesky Astros before us….maybe they might be licking their wounds and be thinking ahead and lose focus on a couple of games.

Piniella: "This is a tougher job than I thought it would be, I'm going to be honest with you."

by Ivy Walls on Jul 21, 2008 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Piniella did not have to do a thing to set this up

It was a four game series starting with the first starter ( there are no days off) other than keeping
Marquis the 5th starter which is not exactly brain surgery ( and yes I actually LIKE Marquis) it was done.

I'll put a personal lifetime ban from BCB

If this “projected” rotation by the obviously bored author, is 100% correct.

I can already tell you that the projection is wrong

McClung pitches road games while Bush pitches home games. It’s a home game for the Brewers so Bush will replace McClung in the rotation.

I heard Neddy say he was so excited to fill out his rotation

after they signed CC. All the way down to the Cubs series. God I hope we drill him.

by Mapmaker on Jul 21, 2008 3:45 PM CDT reply actions

I've got to say

our top 4 looks better than their top 4, but their top 2 look slightly better than our top 2. They’re going complete games almost every start. It’s pretty much a toss up. They should be good games, I’d be happy with a split.

Go ahead, Z me.

by tony412 on Jul 21, 2008 3:48 PM CDT reply actions

I like to look ahead

In fact I already posted this in response to a direct question in a totally unrelated thread
( the one about the Yankees game) along with the info about missing Haden and Haren on
Saturday. heck I posted that to Al last Friday. I am rotation obsessed. I have already told my
nephew he gets to see Dempster on Friday ( going with my tickets) and that I won’t be able to see Harden throw Saturday because the game WILL BE NOT BE SHOWN in NYC. Rotation plotting is fun.

McClung/Bush Tag Team (As MIL's 5th starter, not the Republican Prez Ticket)

Was reading Rob Neyer earlier and he linked to an article stating that Yost will alternate McClung and Bush as his 5th starter.

Here is the link to the original article. So we may be looking at Dave Bush instead of McClung in the series finale.

That said, I am rooting for Raven in the wager above.

The only objection I have to this fanpost...

...is it’s getting me stressed out about this series sooner rather than later. Man, every game against the Brewers is going to feel like the playoffs from here on out. I’m not sure I can take it. (OK, I can definitely take it, but I’m going to be climbing the walls up until game time.)

I'll be there for Monday's game

and I plan on giving CC (no periods, please) a wedgie before the game so that he pitches poorly.
