WOW
HR DARYLE WARD
I take back anything I said negative about him earlier today.
LOU, please let him start tomorrow.
Only need 3 runs!
The Cubs have 2 runs this entire series!
that a way Daryle.....
that’s what we need out of you as a PH….

From the other thread
My guess for tomorrow:
Soriano
Theriot
Fukodome
Edmunds
Derosa
Ward
Fontenot
Blanco
Lily
Tinker to Evers to Chance.
yeah, I'm sure he'll bench all of his top hitters on the same day.

Yeah, you're right. Nobody slumps. good point.
by sackings108 on Jul 22, 2008 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions
I'm not saying they aren't bad slumps, but to suggest that Ramirez, Soto, and Lee aren't the
top hitters on this team is just wrong.
by sackings108 on Jul 22, 2008 11:12 PM CDT up reply actions
You need to read some stats.
DPLee hasn’t hit a homer in over a month, and is on the wrong side of 30. It isn’t a slump. His best days are behind him. Soto is exhausted and ARam is 0-PASB. They need to sit.
How someone can watch tonight’s game and not see the obvious is baffling.
Tinker to Evers to Chance.
by Matt Allison on Jul 22, 2008 11:13 PM CDT up reply actions
I agree that Lee isn't getting any better.
But just because they slump doesn’t mean they aren’t good hitters.

You should share
this with Lou. He’d love to hear from you.
Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.
I know you're frustrated,
but spare me the “kill the messenger” BS.

brings up a good point. Hopefully, bringing back soriano tomorrow would not be too much pressure on him. But, making as much money as he does we should expect him to play well..
I was thinking to myself a while ago,
If the Cubs can just get something going it would be a good boost to their confidence. Ward’s homer helps.
The guys look frustrated, you can see it in their faces and body language.
Don't blow it boys!
I'm sure they are
frustrated. Probably more then we could imagine.
Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.
Oh, no question about it,
did you see Ramirez throw his bat away and slam down his helmet? They definitely do not need a chewing out by Lou, but they need something to restore their lost confidence.
Don't blow it boys!
Do any of you think
that rookie catcher would let going 0 – 2 and allowing 2 stolen bases in the All Star game effect him this much? Maybe I am reaching.
they aren't in second anymore.

And Wednesday will be the last day the Cubs have to play ball at Chased Field.
Adios!

The Cubs haven’t beaten the Marlins in years.
I will be there Thursday..
Cheering them on as hard as I can..
Glad to see it looks like the Cardinals finally realized they were over-achieving and we can focus on the Brewers now..
Hey Kevin! Good news, and bad news
The good news is that you get to pitch now.
The bad news is that Lou has his worst possible defensive outfield behind you.

Someone put some "slump" in the Cubs drink!!!!
I just hope this isn’t some extended thing….Brewers are tearing it up suddenly and probably can’t wait to get us into Miller Park…..ill timed offensive slump…..it is painful to look at DLee and ARam right now….but perhaps a return to friendlier confines will awaken our sleeping bats…that and sweet swinging Alfy Sor…....gear it up against the Fish and then come into Miller with bats a blazing…...OR this becomes a cancer on the offense and we slowly slump our way into 2nd, which could still be good enough for the playoffs….remember the WC will likely come from the NL Central so don’t give up…..
Someone's overdosing on cubbie kool-aid

You can't handle the truth, NOTBRUCE.....
You can’t accept the fact that the Cubs right now are NOT good. The proof is in their game. DLee is trying to pull everything. He will set a record for DP’s that was held by probably the slowest player to EVER play this game. I know you don’t know who it is, but a google search will tell you.
You called me a moron for responding to someone who said that DLee reached for another pitch. I said it was alright to reach for the pitch, just hit it, don’t try to pull it. That is baseball. You hit the pitch away to the OPPOSITE field. Otherwise you have a weak grounder to the pull side. DUH….

No.
No. No. No.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. Accidental beanballs happen. Professional ballplayers can tell the difference between unintentional and intentional HBP. That difference matters. What the fuck is the point of punishing someone for an accident?

I ask again...
What’s the point of punishing the other team for a clear accident? Usually a beanball is in retaliation for something dickish that the other team did… a batter showing up a pitcher, an intentional HBP, a player sliding in with his spikes high, etc.
Why throw at someone for an accident? Especially what you’re saying… that they’re going to try and injure someone… it’s nonsense. You’re an idiot.

In this case, I'd bet that's accurate.
You can see it in Lou’s body language – “this kid just doesn’t have it.” It looked just the same on the 12th when the Giants were slapping him around.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Hart gets a very down-to-earth, quiet assessment of his future with the team in a 1-to-1 meeting with Lou. They’ll send him to AAA, try to accommodate him with a trade… but I seriously doubt that Hart pitches another meaningful inning in 2008.

OK.....all ledge...jumpers...
If the Cubs ccould just manage to play .500 ball the rest of the year….
They will win 90 games.
Do I think that enough to win the NL central….? NO…BUT…..
I do think they will play a little beter than that…..bUT also….92 or 93 might not bee enough either….BUT that said…if the turds and suds can win 95+......more power to ‘em
The best defense is a good offense
Well
Sheets and Sabathia, not to mention Carpenter and Wainwright, might have something to say about the outcome of the 2008 NL Central Race.
Rich Harden Fever, Catch It !!!!!!!!!!
Zambrano and Harden
Will probably get their two cents in. Not worried about this team at all, these hitters are too good to stay this cold for long. Not to mention Soriano coming back should provide some sort of boost to the offense
Three best teams in the National League sit in the National League Central
This thing is going to be a dogfight until 162 games are in the books.
Rich Harden Fever, Catch It !!!!!!!!!!
.....
and if they can’t play .500 (ish) ball the rest of the year….they DONT deserve to be in the playoffs….and I agree….the Turds and Suds aren’t going away…just makes some squandered opportunities earlier this year hurt that much more….not that the Cubs own the market on squnadered opportunities.
The best defense is a good offense
Not that...
anybody from the NL west deserves to be there…(at least at this point in time)
The best defense is a good offense
This seems like an appropriate ending

this slump will not last much longer IMO. They are playing hard, hitting the ball pretty good – right at someone – and their pitching (except for Marshalll and Hart) has been outstanding. Now the pressure begins for the starters. Since they know they are stuck with a bunch of suck ass hitters, they know that they will have to be damn near perfect in order to have a chance to win. That results in these guys trying to make the perfect pitch each time out. That leads to walks, hard hit balls, and the Cubs getting bitch slapped by 8 runs.
Again, October can not come soon enough.
Man, this is a really ugly board......
there are lots of Blue Mikes here…....all the ones who are the “gang”, the regulars, cannot take one bit of criticism of the Cubs….the Blue Mikes cannot take anything positive about the CUBS…..one is as bad as the other. Plainly speaking, the Cubs suck right now. If you don’t like that, call me names. I have been a Cubs fan since 1958, (not going to insert names here) but a Chicago hero would say the same thing. Uncle (name omitted here) would be here taking y’all to task also. Get a grip, both you negative idiots and you “do NOT criticize MY Cubs” idiots. See life as what it is. Not what it should be. Blue Mike, or whatever your damn name is, my offer still stands. I am half Sicilian, and I do NOT forget the personal things you threw at me. Well, for all of you crack smokers, try an 8-9 record in the month of July. For the team that still has the best record in the NL, that is beyond unacceptable. Also, that is a 17 game straight run (more than 10% of the season) that has been under .500.
I would love to know why people think this is a mere abberation. Oh, wait, my bad. I forgot, they are the Cubs. All will be well, just like it has been for 100 years.
Got it. Thanks.
We get it, you think your clever because you can troll after the loss. Yep, 100 years, etc. Good stuff.

Asshole, now asswipe. So, I must now refer to you as a cum shot, as opposed to being a cum stain.
I am curious. Why would you like to meet with me? I have an idea, but I was wondering if you could be stooooopid enough to share it with everyone on this board?
Well, I think you need a good ass kickin' is all.....
so, you a minor? Got a problem? You think you are special? I WILL kick your ass, sonny.

Man, in spite of tonight’s loss, you made my night. I am still amazed that some people would publically threaten on a message board. No different than making a physical threat via phone, face to face, etc.
I do have one question. For you to be at the Ambassador, are you the assistant to the janitorial engineer?
As for asking me if I am a minor, now I am really confused. Are you some sort of predator. Sorry dude, but I am no sperm farter.

You can play well and go 8-9.
While I do not disagree with you, my issue is HOW they are playing and losing.
I don’t have the time, but if I were a betting man, I am guessing that the Brewers have not had a stretch this year where they have been so abyssmal with the bats.
I would trade their 1-8 for ours in a second.

Here's what I think,
the Cubs are in a very bad hitting slump right now, but hitting slumps come to an end. As a coach myself, the last thing I would do with these guys is scream and yell at them. If they weren’t playing hard, that’s another matter, but they are playing hard! Look at the frustration on the faces of these guys. They absolutely hate what has been happening to the team right now. To tell them they stink is not a newflash. But to tell them they are still very much in charge of their own destiny, to tell them our best pitchers are lined up for the Brewers this month, and to tell them this slump has to end, so let’s end it tomorrow, is what I would tell em.
All they need is one break, one positive play, and this whole thing can turn around in a nanosecond.
Don't blow it boys!
I agree. Lou is a smart
man. He knows not to kick his team when they are down. I’m sure he did talk with them and they all understand that things have to change. Now they just have to work to get it turned around.
Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.
Absolutely!
they need to relax and play the game like they did when they were kids – let it be fun again. These guys are as tight as can be. I haven’t seen them this tense all season.
Just relax guys, it will come.
Don't blow it boys!
Yep.
I seriously need to get to bed. Let’s hope for a win tomorrow night to take us back home and get four more going into Milwaukee.
Night.
Go Cubs!!!
Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.
I agree...BUT
someone has to sit DLee down and show him video of Derrek hitting the outside pitch to RF with authority. He is pulling everything. Sit him down a couple days, play Hoffpauir at FIRST, not LF, and let him relax a bit.
Rami needs to stop thinking that he is the only one who can win a game. He is a great hitter who is pulling off trying to get the lead run with no one on. He needs to relax, and HIT the way he does.
The Cubs need to step back and just relax, do the things that got them here. They have lost their ‘swagger’, their confidence…...
