LOU, please let him start tomorrow.

"Top" hitters?

Tinker to Evers to Chance.

by Matt Allison on Jul 22, 2008 11:09 PM CDT up reply actions

You need to read some stats.

DPLee hasn’t hit a homer in over a month, and is on the wrong side of 30. It isn’t a slump. His best days are behind him. Soto is exhausted and ARam is 0-PASB. They need to sit.

How someone can watch tonight’s game and not see the obvious is baffling.

Tinker to Evers to Chance.

I agree that Lee isn't getting any better.

But just because they slump doesn’t mean they aren’t good hitters.

Brenly

I was thinking to myself a while ago,

If the Cubs can just get something going it would be a good boost to their confidence. Ward’s homer helps.

Someone put some "slump" in the Cubs drink!!!!

I just hope this isn’t some extended thing….Brewers are tearing it up suddenly and probably can’t wait to get us into Miller Park…..ill timed offensive slump…..it is painful to look at DLee and ARam right now….but perhaps a return to friendlier confines will awaken our sleeping bats…that and sweet swinging Alfy Sor…....gear it up against the Fish and then come into Miller with bats a blazing…...OR this becomes a cancer on the offense and we slowly slump our way into 2nd, which could still be good enough for the playoffs….remember the WC will likely come from the NL Central so don’t give up…..

You can't handle the truth, NOTBRUCE.....

You can’t accept the fact that the Cubs right now are NOT good. The proof is in their game. DLee is trying to pull everything. He will set a record for DP’s that was held by probably the slowest player to EVER play this game. I know you don’t know who it is, but a google search will tell you.

You called me a moron for responding to someone who said that DLee reached for another pitch. I said it was alright to reach for the pitch, just hit it, don’t try to pull it. That is baseball. You hit the pitch away to the OPPOSITE field. Otherwise you have a weak grounder to the pull side. DUH….

You don’t know what you’re talking about. Accidental beanballs happen. Professional ballplayers can tell the difference between unintentional and intentional HBP. That difference matters. What the fuck is the point of punishing someone for an accident?

I ask again...

What’s the point of punishing the other team for a clear accident? Usually a beanball is in retaliation for something dickish that the other team did… a batter showing up a pitcher, an intentional HBP, a player sliding in with his spikes high, etc.

Why throw at someone for an accident? Especially what you’re saying… that they’re going to try and injure someone… it’s nonsense. You’re an idiot.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Hart gets a very down-to-earth, quiet assessment of his future with the team in a 1-to-1 meeting with Lou. They’ll send him to AAA, try to accommodate him with a trade… but I seriously doubt that Hart pitches another meaningful inning in 2008.

Now the pressure begins for the starters. Since they know they are stuck with a bunch of suck ass hitters, they know that they will have to be damn near perfect in order to have a chance to win. That results in these guys trying to make the perfect pitch each time out. That leads to walks, hard hit balls, and the Cubs getting bitch slapped by 8 runs.

Again, October can not come soon enough.

Man, this is a really ugly board......

there are lots of Blue Mikes here…....all the ones who are the “gang”, the regulars, cannot take one bit of criticism of the Cubs….the Blue Mikes cannot take anything positive about the CUBS…..one is as bad as the other. Plainly speaking, the Cubs suck right now. If you don’t like that, call me names. I have been a Cubs fan since 1958, (not going to insert names here) but a Chicago hero would say the same thing. Uncle (name omitted here) would be here taking y’all to task also. Get a grip, both you negative idiots and you “do NOT criticize MY Cubs” idiots. See life as what it is. Not what it should be. Blue Mike, or whatever your damn name is, my offer still stands. I am half Sicilian, and I do NOT forget the personal things you threw at me. You “positive” Cubs fans….NOT BRUCE is an example, get it together, let folks speak their minds without your damn name-calling. Shit.

Define a 'slump'

Seems to me that many think that the Cubs have just been in an itsy-witsy slump as of late.

Well, for all of you crack smokers, try an 8-9 record in the month of July. For the team that still has the best record in the NL, that is beyond unacceptable. Also, that is a 17 game straight run (more than 10% of the season) that has been under .500.

I would love to know why people think this is a mere abberation. Oh, wait, my bad. I forgot, they are the Cubs. All will be well, just like it has been for 100 years.

Got it. Thanks.

Here's what I think,

the Cubs are in a very bad hitting slump right now, but hitting slumps come to an end. As a coach myself, the last thing I would do with these guys is scream and yell at them. If they weren’t playing hard, that’s another matter, but they are playing hard! Look at the frustration on the faces of these guys. They absolutely hate what has been happening to the team right now. To tell them they stink is not a newflash. But to tell them they are still very much in charge of their own destiny, to tell them our best pitchers are lined up for the Brewers this month, and to tell them this slump has to end, so let’s end it tomorrow, is what I would tell em.
All they need is one break, one positive play, and this whole thing can turn around in a nanosecond.

Absolutely!

they need to relax and play the game like they did when they were kids – let it be fun again. These guys are as tight as can be. I haven’t seen them this tense all season.
Just relax guys, it will come.

Yep.

I seriously need to get to bed. Let’s hope for a win tomorrow night to take us back home and get four more going into Milwaukee.

Night.

Go Cubs!!!

I agree...BUT

someone has to sit DLee down and show him video of Derrek hitting the outside pitch to RF with authority. He is pulling everything. Sit him down a couple days, play Hoffpauir at FIRST, not LF, and let him relax a bit.

Rami needs to stop thinking that he is the only one who can win a game. He is a great hitter who is pulling off trying to get the lead run with no one on. He needs to relax, and HIT the way he does.

The Cubs need to step back and just relax, do the things that got them here. They have lost their ‘swagger’, their confidence…...

OT

Have you guys seen the fight in Detroit between the Sparks and the Comets. Rick Mahorn, a coach on the Detroit team, just shoved Lisa Leslie to the floor.
