Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

What? You thought we would clinch in July?

Get off the ledge. Sack up. Stop punking out. Quit whining about Soriano. Stop making D Lee the 14th best 1st baseman in the National League.

Stop demanding that everyone get a day off, or get moved to 8th in the order.

DO NOT bow your head to a Cards or Brewers fan.

This is a long season and you have to trust it. If we finish a game ahead, that's fine. At the end of the season, you don't get extra runs in the playoffs if you win by 10 games and clinch in August.

You aren't the manager. You aren't the GM. You aren't the hitting coach.

You don't know better than them.

You're the fan. Pop a beer and enjoy.

No

But I expect the Cubs to win a series against one of the worst teams in the league, and against a .500 team with no offense. Especially when we’re missing their 1-2 starters.

And Aramis Ramirez is playing like sh*t right now, and on the road all season. Look at his road numbers. They’re terrible.

I hope we’ll be fine, and I’m generally an optimistic person. This is starting to get pretty aggravating though.

If Ernie were playing on this team he’d probably want to play three.

those are words of wisdom...

“DO NOT bow your head to a Cards fan!”
We have woes of our own. As hard as it’s been to gain ground on the Cubs we’re blowing a good opportunity. If we don’t get a bullpen fix pretty soon then a blown save will become a blown season.
Whatever the Cubs funk is, it could change tomorrow. I don’t think I can say that about the Cardinals. We need a magic wand or a move by the front office. (that could be one and the same).

I don't bow my head to a Cardinals fan

Under any circumstances. Unless I’m trying to con them into bowing their heads first so I can kick them in the face!

I say that with love and respect.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and remember, half of them are stupider than that!

This is a baseball blog

What do you expect people to intricately discuss, music? Do you propose people only fluff the Cubs, only congratulate them when they win and act like nothing happened if they lose? We are here to break down and analyze all the details and all the play. Unfortunately, there are a lot of negative things to analyze at the moment. Hopefully things will turn shortly.

by polly on Jul 23, 2008 7:48 AM CDT reply actions

No, but I want people to stop treating it as if the season is over

We have a one-game lead. If we lose the next three and the Brewers win the next three, we will be two games back.

Do you think that is insurmountable?

by DaBard on Jul 23, 2008 8:32 AM CDT up reply actions

Of course the season isn't over

There is a lot of ball left to be played, but just like you said, if we lose the next three to the Brewers (or even 2 of 3) we are no longer in first. That’s somewhat of a reason to be concerned and certainly a topic that would warrant discussion.

by polly on Jul 23, 2008 8:38 AM CDT up reply actions

ANALYSIS is fine. Concern is understandable ..

.. but the level of asinine angst too many people here plunge into is insane ..

.. We are the Cubs Nation .. not the Red Sox one, where they are absolutely paranoiac every freaking day of the season …

Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!

I can see why they asked George Brett to give a pre-game All-Star speech, and not you...

Now DaBard .. that is some good preaching, son

Good post, boss

The choir would agree ..

Chill people. We lost a couple series. The funk will go away. The Cubs will get it together.

This is the year and the Cubs are real.

My internet is broken, all it gets is reruns

Was this diary really necessary after NBM made the exact same one yesterday?

The ledge jumper mentality is annoying, but turning street preacher and telling people how to act really isn’t any better.

Remember, the Cards were 2-4 against the Royals this season

You really never do know what’s going to happen, even though you think you might.

Excellent diary.

Not Freaking Out, But..

I figure Lou and the coaches know more than I do. However, that doesn’t mean they are always going to make better decisions than I would. Suggesting that the Cubs make changes in the lineup during an offensive collapse isn’t some crazy idea proposed by some clueless Cubs fanatic. That doesn’t mean the Cubs should make those changes just because some fan thinks so. Let’s have an open discussion about such things.

I am not panicking. I still think the Cubs will make the playoffs as the division winner. I say the Cubs will win the division by 2 games over the Brewers and by 6 over the Cardinals. Let’s see what happens.

I don't know about the rest of you...

but I’ve been “clinching” quite a bit the last few games…

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.
