Fallout from last night's Basebrawl
CNNSI reports that Chiefs "pitcher"--and I use the term loosely--Julio Castillo was arrested last night in Dayton on felonious assualt charges. The link is here:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/07/25/pitcher.arrested.ap/index.html
Other related charges proferred against Castillo were impersonating a professional pitcher and decent human being--both misdemeanors in Ohio. I would agree that what that boy needs right now is a good lawyer and a welcoming family back wherever he came from
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Such a crazy story... all caught on a cell phone
BUT there is a fanpost created on this topic already just a few post below this one, im not trying to be a stickler, but the post would flow a lot better if people placed things like this in an already existing fanpost… but yes thanks for the update

Ignore the complainers
This is an update and it would be silly to bury it 50 posts down in a different thread that has devolved into bashing a guy nobody knows anything about and defending Ryne Sandberg.
What I want to know is how the Chiefs are going to field a full team for Tuesday night’s game at Wrigley.

Disagree.
The original fanpost on this topic is only five down from the top as I type this – and was posted only 11 hours ago. If we post new fanposts for every “update” to a story, the fanpost bar will become evne more chaotic than it already is. There’s no reason this information couldn’t have been added to the existing thread on this topic.

I apologize
This was just meant as an update. I certainly didn’t mean to bury anything. If this were a really horrible violation of rules and ettiquette here-besides my horrible spelling-I would expect it to be deleted. Again, I’m sorry for any inconvenience my update may have caused.

You could just delete it yourself...
...and add the updated info to EJThunder’s fanpost.

The problem here is...
... that this site is so busy, a lot of people want to contribute. This is a GOOD thing, but if everyone posts the first FanPost idea that comes into their head without looking to see if the topic has been recently covered, the list gets really cluttered and posts move down and off the front page quickly.
I’ll ask everyone here: is this something I need to do something about? If so, what?

I take it...
That there is no feature that rockets a post back to the top if someone posts in it? I’ve seen a lot of boards like that.
If a fanpost got buried prematurely, someone posting in it could move it up, and the extraneous ones would die off.
Or, is it in your power to resurrect fanposts? Or put some kind of lock on them to keep them from moving down?

Well...
... I can republish them with an updated posting time; that would move them to the top of the list. However, that means I have to keep a closer eye on the list in order to do that, something I really don’t have time for.

Very unlikey
You’ll ever see me hit the litte red button…Fanposts are tricky little devils, one false step and wham-o. I prefer to let you guys create the posts and I’ll add dumb comments that can go ignored…I’d rather spare myself the embarassment.

The social dynamics of posting
and the human’s natural tendancies toward power are really on display around here. Wow.
Not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone/either side. Just, wow.

Observation
Perhaps not relevant to this case, but something I have notice. Here, the other post on the brawl is in the recommended section. IIRC, under the “old” format, a recommended post would appear in both the recommended section and the “recent fanposts” section. Now, it is only in the recommended section.
At least for me, I, ironically, usually skip over the recommended fanposts and go right to the recent fanposts. I think the reason is two-fold. First, I’m used to the old system still, so I subconsciously don’t think that I’m missing anything. Second, the recommended fanposts are usually all minor league wraps. No offense to Josh77 (those take a lot of work and are very well done), but I don’t usually read those (it’s hard enough to find time to keep up with the major league team), and they seem to get less than average traffic.
My suggestion would be to ask sb nation to have the recommended fanposts also show up in the recent fanposts section.

But...
... if the recommended posts show up in the recent posts section, that would make the recent posts section even MORE cluttered by having certain posts listed twice.
You CAN set the # of recent posts to a larger number if you want; that might help.
Another thing that would help is if people with just a single link to share would post it in the FanShot section.
If anyone here thinks I need to make a front-page post about this, I will. Need some more ideas first, though.

Said this before and I'll say it here again - we need a myFanPosts view
each user needs a way to mark those fanposts that they want to keep visible on their front page. I think someone already mentioned a “delete post” function, which is kinda the same thing – you just mark the ones you don’t want to see again.
Either way, you end up with a view of only the fanposts that you want to see on a regular basis. and when you’re satisfied that everything’s been said that needs to be said, you just unmark it and it goes back into the main fanpost pile.
Incidently, this should be an additional feature – it should NOT replace the existing main view. You still need to have that to ensure you don’t miss a post or can easily go back and see them all should you all of a sudden have many hours to kill…
I sent this in to SBN a long time ago – can’t recall exactly what their response was, but i got the impression it was along the lines of a polite “thanks, we’ll take it into consideration…”.

This is such a watercooler event for me
because the names listed will probably (1 out of 50) mean something and the others will be known for this moment.
