he's got to be up over 70.

We need him to get into the 7th. Then Gaudin, then Marmol.

He could, but he'd rather do it this way.

I can’t say enough good things about Harden right now. And he’s really a contrast with Z – no emotions, not really interested in what he’s doing at the plate… one isn’t necessarily better than the other, but they’re very different stylistically.

The other thing I keep noticing is how YOUNG Harden is. He could be a Cub for a long, long time.

by cwyers on Jul 26, 2008 1:38 PM CDT up reply actions

He is young.

Like I’ve said from the get-go, we could end up pulling off the deal of the century, or the deal that “could of been”.

He’s one hell of a pitcher. I don’t have a problem with the strikeouts, but I the walks is what stopped him from getting into the 6th and 7th innings.

Personally, Harden is my favorite pitcher on the staff. No offense to Z, but I think Harden is just more exciting to watch. We are so fortunate to have 2 #1 pitchers.

My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:

by Unique on Jul 26, 2008 2:05 PM CDT up reply actions

From an A's fan perspective - It is cool to see people recognize that Harden's so young

No one in A’s-land EVER refers to Richie as young. But he IS!

When I looked up his age and saw that he’s 26, I was shocked. A’s fandom acts like he’s 31…

I just never want to hear Blue Mike etc

Complain that Maddux is a Six inning pitcher again. K’s are fine are great but
they cause you to throw MORE pitches and the guy can only go 5 to 6 innings it is
a problem for a so called “ace”. Let’s be honest. The “ace” of the Cubs is DEMPSTER
followed by Z and then Harden.

about the pitcher rankings

Absolutely. Dempster has easily been the most consistant pitcher all year.
Also I will take a pitcher who can go 8 and give up two runs over a guy who goes
5 and gives up none.

He's been the most consistent, I guess.

But Zambrano and Harden are better pitchers, IMO. I would rather throw those 2 out any day over Dempster.

Made me nervous because earlier this year, we saw him pulled in about the 5th even though he was dealing and only up to about 85 pitches… they wouldn’t say why… then they pushed back his next start… and eventually scratched him from it. Man, who's been better - Sabathia or Harden? Both trades look excellent...

...but it looks like the Brewers don’t give two shits about CC’s arm post-2008, whereas the Cubs are trying to set Harden up for the long-term, or a long run. Has there been a better starter the last two weeks than these two?

CC isn't a long-term player

for the Brewers, he’s a rental. We’ll have Harden for at least another year.

I also think Lou is using Harden better than Ned is using CC

Lou knows Harden’s value is partly to get to the post season but mostly for dominating during postseason. So he pulls him with a low pitch count.

Ned Yost is running CC out there for complete games just trying to get the Brewers to the postseason. CC is a horse, but I’d be nervous if I were a Brewers fan

he’s definitely an asset to this bullpen.

’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)
