Bad Day To Be A Cubs Fan

As I keep reminding myself and others I talk to, the baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint.  As die-hards, it's hard not to have the football (or even college basketball) mentality that every game counts.  I mean, they do, but you do have 162 games.  But the last couple of weeks have been tough; I think it hurts us so much when the Cubs lose games like Friday when they had so many opportunities.  I was listening to the game on my way home on XM and immediately called my wife when Howry gave up the go-ahead homerun. "Why in the hell is Howry in a tie game" I yelled.  And to put in a rookie (Notre Dame no less!!) in the kind of situation he was put in I thought was kinda weird.  Today is a new day and hopfeully the Cubs can get Rich Harden some runs!

I just saw the whole Perioa incident.  Very, very ugly!  I feel bad for Ryno, even though he wasn't there.  I can't imagine what he's going to do once he returns to the team.  I also can't imagine this would have happened if were with the team.

At least Milwaukee lost!  I hope upper management can get us some relief!!

cubs

all comes down to the hitting.very erratic lately.pitching has been decent.cubs have never been the kind of team to runaway so when they do win they make the fans sweat it out.unless they pull a total collapse it shuld be right down to the wire with the brew crew.

Really?

Bad day, huh?

I’ll give you that it was a dissapointing loss, but, consider these points:

- Both the Brewers and Cards lost – and the Cards look like they may be done
- In fact, only Houston won in the Central (and you wanted them to win), so the Cubs lead in the Division didn’t drop anywhere but to the last place team
- The Pirates – a team the Cubs still play six times – got worse via trades
- Jeff Samadrzija looked good in his MLB debut
- As noted, it was only one game

Now, the Cubs do need to find some offense, but yesterday was far from a “bad” day. There have been several of those lately, but I took a lot from yesterday that I haven’t been able to take from other day’s lately…

I think he's mostly pointing at

that for about 6 hours we were awaiting the final score of the Brewers game to see if there will be a tie for first at the end of the day, while taking in a very tough loss.

Then

why was this posted at 4 am? After the ‘Crew lost, what especially made yesterday so bad?

For those six hours, maybe, but after that, then, so what?

He also pointed to the Peoria incident

Which is was a pretty bad stain on the Cubs yesterday…

I hope Harden can limit the Marlins today

I know that we can’t expect him to pitch the way he has the last two starts every game, but if he can throe another one of the great starts out for the Cubs, I think the offense can come through.

“I know that we can’t expect him to pitch the way he has the last two starts every game”

if Sabathia can, why can’t Harden?

wow, these fanposts are getting, um, ridiculous...

...this easily could have been put in the post game/pre game thread.

Agreed

It is nice that everyone wants to pitch in, but I think some of the meatier fanposts are getting pushed aside and not recommended so they stay visible longer.

per al's post...

lots of places to place the blame on yesterday’s loss, but yeah, i agree with you that the shark probably shouldn’t have been put in that situation and howry shouldn’t have either.

Really?

The Cubs have the best record in the NL, lead the division by a game and the Wild Card by 4 games. In the vast majority of years over the last several decades the Cubs season has far been over by this point in time. Not so sure its a bad day to be a Cubs fan.

Bad day to be a Pirates fan

Bad day to be a Cards fan (5 straight ouch)
Bad day to be a Phillies fan (they could have knocked down Mets this week)
Bad day to be a Nationals fan (they have to see we have 22 more wins than they do!)
Bad day for Boston fans (they actually do have something to fear about with Yanks down their neck)

Wow, I think I’m over losing 3-2 yesterday against a team leading in HR’s that’s also pretty good this year. Oh and I think Cubs are over the loss too.

He probably won't

But I’m sure he can’t wait to write a new post today…

The Peoria Chiefs situation....

couldn’t have come at a worse time. They have been playing great baseball the last two weeks, and there will be several suspensions issued. Not a good way for Ryno to take his team to Wrigley next Tuesday.

by montecarlo on Jul 26, 2008 6:52 PM CDT reply actions

Those suspensions won't happen...

... until after Tuesday, otherwise there wouldn’t be much of a team to take the field on Tuesday. They aren’t facing Dayton, so that isn’t an issue, and there’s the possibility of Kerry Wood throwing an inning as a rehab assignment.

harden

another great game without a win. sabbathia 4-0, harden 0-1.no fault of his own.that,s why the brewers are in 1st place.cubs better wake up fast before they find themselves 4 games out.let,s just hope they can run the brewers down again like last year.
