lol are you kidding me?
99 years of losing. I know this is over with the bottom of our anemic lineup coming up.
the bottom of the lineup has been our saving grace lately

Again, this is the offense's fault that we're in this position every single day lately
The pitching is lucky to face this many batters and keep them held down this much. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired of this offense lately.
couldnt agree more....outside of Howry....

I am so mad....I just cannot stand the Marlins and they constantly beat us no matter who they have.....
this is another crappy loss (two in a row) and not exactly the boost I was hoping a few games at Wrigley would give the team before they have to play the red hot Brewers…....I officially despise our offensive slump…......this game is not the fault of any of the pitchers…...GRRRRRRRR

Is that like 11 out of 12 games we've lost ot the Marlins?
Apparently coming home has not sparked this offense. At least batting eight Fukudome got on 3 times
I wonder how much of that has to do with the pitcher's spot.
You know, pitching around the 8 hitter because the pitcher is up?
He did have two hits, however…Either way, 3 times on base is good, especially for a guy whose been scuffling.

I'm With You
all the way preacherman. Although I’m not like many here who seem able to recall each little detail of previous seasons, it seems to me our boys had a similar flat spot around this same time last year. Didn’t they actually fall out of first place around this time? I do recall the season ending surge and how the Brewere crumbled just at the right time. This year both teams are markedly better but I believe the Cubs will once again prevail. One game at a time. Our early season euphoria was fun but we must all see it for the simple warm fuzzy that it was. This is the big leagues and every day the opposition is trying just as hard to win as the Cubs are. You win some, you lose some. Our guys are too good to struggle long term. I just hate to see such great starting pitching go for nothing. It’ll get better though.
And so it goes.
July

I didn't make the rule against swearing.
And this person was swearing at me so I directed the criticism towards THAT person.
Hey, it's a new century!

no it actually wasn't
it was directed at lou and what he should tell his players.

How exactly was this directed at you?
And if there is a rule against swearing around, tell that to Al.

I'm pretty sure
Al knows the rules.
’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

So, you're saying there's a lack of effort?
If so, I strongly disagree.
I think the effort is there, what EXACTLY do you recommend?
Hey, it's a new century!
by cowsarecool220 on Jul 26, 2008 4:06 PM CDT up reply actions
not effort
i think it’s a mindset when you swing at the first pitch everytime. lou needs to emphasize working counts
by lexmarklover on Jul 26, 2008 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions
how many walks
did we get today? More than two, I know that.

well, ok.
Look. Rami and Lee look to be coming out of their slump. Soriano got the bat on the ball today, which is much earlier than he did when he came back from the DL at the beginning of the year. Even I was surprised that our wonder-boy Theriot didn’t get on base today.
the Marlins are a good team. This was a close game.

yes i agree
but i’m pretty sure you would say that the patience has changed since the second half.

I think they came out of the All-Star Break
pressing. They’ve gotten WAY more patient in this series. They’ll settle down.

Again, you're presuming
this discussion isn’t happening between the coaching staff and players. I have complete confidence the coaching staff is doing everything they can to prepare they players.
These are good players and they WILL come out of this slump. They key is to not panic.

i agree with everythign you say it's just i'm frustrated and ready to punch a wall
it just doesn’t make any sense why we can hit one day can’t hit the next and so on.

EVERY team.. again EVERY team..
has spans where the are struggling at the plate. its going to happen, thats why they play 162 games and not 75. One positive tho was Aram has been swinging a better bat the last few days at home. Hopefully that continues
"Go Cubs Go"
I'd pay $10.
When is MLB going to do something about these umps? I don’t blame them for the loss, but man…

Well off to
start dinner. Catch ya later.
Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.
Chamionship teams win these type of games
I was really hoping for an exciting walk-off win the last two days to spark this team but instead, they look like they’re really sputtering.
root for Milwaukee
to lose.

This loss sucks but...
our pitching hasn’t been horrible lately our hitting has.. We’ll get a hot streak going soon we have to many good hitters not to. Sometimes a team just has your number. I don’t like to admit that but sometimes thats just the way it goes. Wasn’t it like 2 years ago the A’s beat seattle 18 of the 19 games the played. Just saying that you have those teams that are just a tough match up. Everyone have a great evening and we’ll get them tomorrow.
I’m heading out soon to watch Marshalltown (IA) compete for a state title in baseball this evening. have a good one all.
"Go Cubs Go"
but my guess is that this too will turn around
when the timely hitting returns.
keep the faith.
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
As much as I think Drake is a shitty ump
DeRo has to know better than to slide into first when he is not avoiding a tag. I think the play would not have even been close if he runs through the bag instead of diving and stopping his momentum. He is clearly called safe if he runs through the bag instead of sliding.
Given our lack of hitting today, there is a good chance we don’t score anyway, but DeRo has to run through the bag on a play like that. In close games we have to be perfect, especially when the offense is having such a tough time scoring runs.
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
Well said...
...I can’t stand it when guys slide into first without needing to avoid a tag. It slows you down big time, and he would have been safe if he runs through the bag.
Regarding the offense, it’s clearly going through one of those periods that can happen to any team. With that said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Lou juggle the lineup a bit and see if that can loosen guys up. It may be time to drop Lee in the order, as he has not been a number 3 type hitter for some time now.
"I don't like them fellas that drive in two runs but let in three" Casey Stengel
DeRo's Slide - A Good Example
of unsmart baseball. God love him, he gives you all he’s got and more, but an unwise move like sliding headfirst into first seems an act of desperation. Once the guys relax a bit and start playing consistently heads-up baseball, the offense will get going again…soon I hope!
