I didn't care for it

I'd love to
get my hands on one of those floppy hats.
Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.
The only thing
that bothers me about those giveaways is there’s always some corporate logo on it messing the whole thing up. Couple weeks ago I got a Cubs visor and right on the side is a lousy McDonald’s logo. Ugh. Makes it look like I work there…

Got one last year when the Cubs beat the Cards. Beautiful day with the jets from the air show flying over.

Since I live in Miami, I have to watch Rich Waltz and the incredibly boring
Tommy Hutton call the game for Sun Sports
Nice!
The throw beat him by so much it semed like a botched hit-and-run.

I'm nervous...
Jason needs the corners and Rob Drake is behind the plate.
This will be a big test of Drake’s professionalism. Hey Rob, don’t forget that your supervisors are watching…

Only 12 pitches for Jason after a leadoff walk.
We need him to go 7 today, so he needs to keep his pitch count down.

Everyone but ARam
swung at every pitch thrown. That’s horrible.
If you like Selig's handling of the steroid issue, you'll love his choice for next Cub owner.
Anything to score runs?
We don’t need to score A run. We’ve been doing that too much lately. We need to score many runs. And giving away outs with your 3-4-5 coming up doesn’t seem the most prudent way to go about doing that.
"I make love to pressure."

Well
To be fair… Riot’s sac was only 1 out… If Lee hadn’t flied out it might have been a sound strategy…
Sound strategy
A strategy is sound based on the probabilities of what might happen next, not determined by what happens in retrospect. Sac-bunting a runner to second with nobody out increases the odds that you’ll score at least one run and decreases the odds you’ll score at least two. It’s thus an example of a “one-run strategy”.
It turns out that a sacrifice bunt, on average, decreases the average number of runs a team scores in an inning (despite increasing the odds that they’ll score one). So in certain late-game situations where one run is sorely needed a sac-bunt is a smart move. In most situations it’s not.
At least taking that BB by Rami was good
VandenHurk left his last game in the 5th while still hurling a no-no due to a high pitch count. Make this fool work guys!

They are bad for my health. Please don’t put a positive spin on this because there is none. We have played this game before and it doesn’t end well.

At what point in time, if the way you've been doing it doesn't work.....
do you change your approach?!? I’m beginning to wonder if this guy wants to get better. Throw strikes. Get ahead in the count. Pound the bottom of the zone.
How in the world is this guy constantly referred to as a “sinkerballer?” He rarely keeps the ball down, he has no idea where the corners are, and I’m tired of predictably watching his movement take the ball right into the heart of the strike zone in hitter’s counts.
Uggh, is he frustrating to watch pitch!
He'll be out of the game early.
It is too early to take him out I know… but, he has no control today. This game is a need to win game. Now he’s gonna strike out, instead of just taking a walk.

DeRo's really inside conscious right now.
Early in the season, he was getting pounded inside. He made the adjustment, and had a great May. Teams are now going outer half on him, and he is pulling a lot of those pitches. As soon as he finds the RCF gap, he’ll get scorching hot. Hopefully, today…

even if you DFA a player, he has to clear waivers after Jul. 31, and and ML players you get in return have to clear waivers. Marquis probably would clear waivers, but Howry wouldn’t. And the Cubs would get either minor leaguers or another team’s garbage in return.

He needs to DFA'd before the deadline...

I Thought It Was Fair
My guess is that they’re pitching Fukudome low and away, Lee down and in, Soto high and away. They also know we don’t steal that well, and in the case of some of our pitchers they tend to nibble (so don’t swing at a pitch if you’re behind in the count unless it’s a “get me over” pitch).

Personally, I think Marshall should have the 5th spot in the rotation
Sure, he doesn’t have the stuff that Marquis has, but I think he knows how to pitch a lot more so than Mutton chops does

just watching this team right now hurts my feelings…...guy gets a hit and then we have the lineup set up to make sure the guy has no chance of scoring…...we make mediocre pitchers look good…..and I forgot how frustrating watching Marquis pitch can be…..at least it is early (that’s reason for optimism or not???)

Dump Marquis
Enough of Jason Marquis already! Put Marshall in the 5th spot. Marquis is a lousy second half pitcher historically. He is of no use.
maybe it takes a bad start by a pitcher to make these hitters
dig deep and wake up. Let’s just see how they respond. Stranger things have happened.
The 8 guys in the line up have not been getting timely hits when we have had great starting pitching, so maybe this is what it takes to wake the bats up.

were that one, and the one on June 2 where Lou got tossed. Can I pick ‘em or what?

’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

Too bad he fouled off ball four earlier in the count

Lee would be a good 7 hitter in this lineup, guy has no power
unfortunately we have no other options in the 3 hole

Drake sucks
Drake totally screwed Marquis against Jacobs. Lou should have kicked dirt on him.
Ha! Len's worried about his car getting hit,
(which happened earlier this year.)
Hey, it's a new century!
they will pick it up later

More solid hitting with runners in scoring position

Well we got 2
Jason just need to hold ‘em.
Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden. Now that's a pair of Aces.
Sucks to leave a man on 2nd
But a good inning nevertheless
"Your eyes can decieve you. Don't trust them." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first sabermetrician...
Crap....well we got our typical 2 runs.....which we have had in all 7 of our last losses....
Edmonds hitting 5th after sitting in the bench???? Hmmm…..and DeRosa hasn’t had a big hit in awhile…...
Cubs get a few.
Closer game than it was 3 outs ago.
Get your stuff together Marquis and put in a few good innings here!
Edmonds sure did swing at ball four
The problem we have is 6 runs wouldn’t be enough. No way is Marquis and this worn out bullpen going to hold it at 5-2.
Well, shut it off, then
Can you predict the lotto numbers tonight, too? Now that would be a real benefit to mankind.

Well the good thing there
Is that at least they have had runners on. So, they should have had at least 4 RISP through the next 6 innings.
Notice how the offense had better swings the 2nd time through the order?
That means there’s hope we can come back. We just have to keep chipping away. It’s early and we don’t have to get it all back at once.
Come on Jason, you can hold them!
Hey, it's a new century!
Can Jason Marquis pull his scruffy head out of his backside and keep it where it is???
Inquiring minds wanna know…...man, is the top of their lineup batting out of order? It seems like they are always up!!!
marquis cam settle down
so settle down, everyone

Ownership
We can’t allow Reinsdorf, Einhorn and Selig pick our owner. They will pick a cheap ass.
Ugh...
MLB.com has “After reaching the top, Brewers aim to stay there” as a headline. I don’t think I’ll be able to turn on SportsCenter tonight even if we win… the Brewers fawning will just make me gag.
You mean SportsCenter alone doesn't make you gag?

Canning
I really hope Canning is out of this. He is a Bud shrill. Micheal Sneed said Canning was trying to push the sale of Wrigley to the state. Sounds like Reinsdorf, he stole 200 million to build the Cell.
"What's That On Your Shirt?" DOING!
Remember that stale gag from fourth grade? My fear is that Reinsdorf would figuratively do that to Canning whenever possible.

Cubs need to be patient
Marquis just walked this pitcher is wild. Don’t let him off the hook.
If they can pull this one out I'll believe again
