To Make Us Feel Better
Now that the Cubs are officially tied in first with Milwaukee I though I would post something that would make most of us (I hope) feel a bit better.
The Cubs are 3 games ahead in the wildcard with the slumping Cards behind them, then the young not experienced Marlins. Tied with them at five games back are the Phils.
All other teams are pretty much out of it after that with the Dodgers checking in next at 8.5 games back.
This makes todays game much more important. The Cubs need to win this game to put the Marlins further back and to hold a first place tie or push Milwaukee back to second.
It would be very key for the Cubs to enter the big for game series with the Brew Crew ALONE in first.

yea
even if the brewers beat us (which i don’t think will happen regardless of the recent slump) we still have the wild card to fall onto which is nice. I’m still a little worried about the Cards but i’m sure they will fade eventually. Let’s just play well for the rest of the season and hopefully get into the playoffs.

Cards bullpen
Is shot worse than ours. Our bullpen isn’t even bad…we just happened to give up homeruns to the homerun leading team at bad times this weekend.

OP was right about this part:
It would be very key for the Cubs to enter the big for game series with the Brew Crew ALONE in first.
’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

I don't feel bad.
The 2008 Cubs are not a good team, they are a great team. This is a better team than any other team in the NL. If you’re feeling bad, look at the team rosters. It doesn’t matter if we enter the series with the Brewers tied or ahead – what matters is what we do after we make the playoffs.

over-reacting a little, aren't we?
the Cubs offense came roaring out of the gate, everybody was hitting and everybody was hitting in the clutch. now, baseball being a long season, we all pretty much knew than that it couldn’t last all year. surprise surprise, the Cubs offense has hit a bit of a slump while playing a ton of day games in middle of July. Lou needs to got Ward and Edmonds back in the everyday lineup for a few games to give some people a day off here and there, and than everything with get right back to steamrolling us deep into the play-offs.

The Cardinals are tanking!
That should surely make you feel better.
I wouldn’t say that they’re dead but they’re having a hard time breathing.
