"When I got to Chicago, fans came to Wrigley Field just to have fun, now they come to see us win. The expectations have changed, for the players and for the fans. It’s about winning." Kerry Wood, 7/14/08
dude
why can’t the cubs ever hit it where it needs to be hit! runner on 3rd less than two hit a fly ball – hit and run hit it on the ground!
"I'll play any day. I don't care if I'm 0-for-30, playing baseball is my PASSION. I'll go out and play." - Geo Soto
Who's pitching this inning?
"Remember each day this year, where you were, what you were doing, who you were with, how you felt as the Cubs win their way through it. Because if this does turn out to be the promised land we have all been waiting for, you will want to remember, savor, cherish every moment..."
Gaudin
was warming up.;
’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic. Crash Davis

that makes me slightly ill.

have when they didn’t come back on us in the end to make it close
No crystal ball required
I’m sitting here watching fastball after fastball out of the maddening hand of Howry Doody, and I’m saying to the room, “One more fastball to Banyan and this game is tied up.”
K, Cubbies... put one on the board,
and get Marmol pumped up.

well, I was only away when I would have to pause the game (via TiVo)
to play or walk my dogs. if you had two border collies you would know what I mean. these boys need lots of attention!
but anyway, there would be 15-20minute periods where I would have to catch up, so I would stay off BCB until I catch up. BTW, I think my dogs were good luck because it seems every Cub rally happened while I was watching on TiVo.
I did get a pass from the Hall Monitor, however every time I left the keyboard. :-)

2008 Cubs: Who needs nine innings, when you only need a 7th?
Best game of the year?
Hands down most exciting, important, finger biting, game of the year. WOW. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a game where every at-bat was so important and the game was so close and considering WE GOT TO SABATHIA!
For excitement alone the Rockies game was better
For the mental health of Cub fans this was the best game.

Good win for the Cubbies, now all the brewers need to do is get rid of Weeks.

Tell Yost to start Durham, there is a reason you guys traded for him. This is going to be an amazing two months of baseball
Missouri Tigers 2008 Cotton Bowl Champs
If Weeks didn't make that error, this was a different ballgame
Evey Hammond: Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici. V: By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.
Thought it was a questionable move to bring in Torres in a tie game...
...looked to me like Yost was trying to win the division in one game…
Let my ashes blow in a beautiful snow from the prevailing 30 mile an hour southwest wind...
When my last remains go flying over the left field wall, I'll bid the bleacher bums adieu,
And I will come to my final resting place, out on Waveland Avenue. --Steve Goodman
I didn't mind that call
That’s the right call when your tied at home in the ninth. I’m more sick of seeing Cameron on the field.
Why are you telling him that?
Weeks is the Cubs’ best player.
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
He's good defensively. Has he been that disappointing offensively?
To me, the other disappointing guy from the Brewers’ perspective is Bill Hall. What happened to him?
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
Hall gets really hot and really cold
Cameron just swings threw too many good pitches and his defense hasn’t been that stellar.
Cameron is pretty near to his career OPS, but I'm surprised to hear about his defense.
Age, perhaps?
Do you think Hall would be better suited doing what DeRo does and floating all around the field? Or couldn’t he handle that mentally?
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
It's not that Cameron has been horrible
but it’s more that you hear of a gold glover coming to play center and you expect some spectacular plays. He hasn’t made many plays outside of the routine ones.
Hall’s fine at third, I would rather see Kaplar in center. He’s good out there and he has better contact. Brewers need more contact hitters, not power hitters.
Shhhhhhhhhhhh....

tough call
to me, cc is going to be a HUGE (literally) disappointment in 2 years when his weight catches up with him…...whatever team signs him this offseason is going to get zito-ized
however i don’t think you can honestly say that at present time harden is better…...cc goes deeper into games, has less health concerns and (this is underrated) can swing the bat
but the homer in me says harden! haha
what happened with len? saying cubs win twice?
what exactly happened there with him? i didn’t have audio in the 9th. btw, GO CUBS GO!!!

Did anyone else have technical problems?
The game thread froze up and I couldn’t even get back on the site until after the game was over.

Did anyone think Chad Gaudin would have 2 wins as a Cub
before Rich Harden had a single win?

Huge key win
Sabathia is defeated, has throw 120 some pitches, thank you ned yost, lee and soriano come through with great 9th inning at bats in the clutch, marmol shuts the team down, now if were able to win 1 of the next 3 we have accomplished our goal and the matchups should favor us. We are in the drivers seat now

Derrek’s hitting the ball in the air again. Rami’s made solid contact. Dome worked a great AB against a tough lefty.
Seriously. I can’t remember the last time a win felt this GOOD to me.

Nope
I am the last, lol!
I watched the game until I came to work. I knew I wouldnt be able to type, eat rolaids, and pay attention to the game all at once. Seems the pre all star break Cubs have returned. Great game. A hard fought win and for now, we have a 2 game cushion at the top. Sleep well those of you that get to sleep over night. I know I will sleep well when I get home in the moring.

ps
at evil BCB they put a good mouthin on Al for no apparent reason. I don’t get the animosity. I hope it was just frustration for most and that the minority of them are total tools. I also didn’t notice that they refer to us as the bizzaro BCB. Kinda funny.

Two very over looked guys this game
Ted Lilly: another quality start. How this guy keeps doing this is unreal. He is amazing and I’m hoping we get him 15 wins this year.
Reed Johnson: He saved DLee’s bacon, got us (at the time) the go head run, and is becoming quickly the third leg of the “Scrappy Pyramid of Victory.”
(I would also like to give a shout out to the Blue Jays, “Thank you.”)
I wish the Brewer's an everlasting misery and pain, so naturally I put them in Milwaukee.

This is going to be one heck of a game today.
Z vs. Sheets. Rematch from opening day. 3 game lead vs. 1 game lead. I can’t wait.
