I'm assuming it's because Jimmy is sore, and Reed doesn't hit rightys well?

Evey Hammond: Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici. V: By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.
Just a guess...
Some combination of:
Edmonds’s knee is sore
DeRo had 2 hits tonight, so don’t want to sit him when he may be getting hot
Want to play Fontenot vs. RH fastball pitcher
OF defense not so important with Z on the mound
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
How did your predictions turn out last night, DeRo?
Evey Hammond: Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici. V: By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.
Only made 1
DeRo will be 0-2, then will come up with a big hit his third time up.
I would have been correct had DLee not been running in quicksand.
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
DeRosa's a fine defensive RFer, as far as I can tell...
...and Dome is probably the best defensive outfielder we have. (Edmonds is a horrible defender nowadays.) I actually really like this alignment.
I wish dragon was here...
...has Dome played CF in his past years in Japan?
Evey Hammond: Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici. V: By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Posted this late in the other thread...so by my count...
...we have 3,683 posts from last night, which includes the pre-game thread, the first game thread, and three overflow threads. I counted that from the time this game started (7 pm), so I guess that can be the official un-official record. That’s our objective tonight, women and men of BCB.
And for note, first pre-game thread had 382, and we are now at 460-ish.

"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
If you gave DeRo an entire ST
I think he could do almost ANYTHING.
’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

DeRo thanks you.
Every interview I’ve ever heard from him, he says he’d love to try CF, but he has no interest in P or C.
But, why would you put a young guy at C if he projects as a ML SS? Maybe that’s the reason the Braves didn’t try it.
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
All things considered, a catcher is generally more useful than a shortstop.
That said, teams really don’t experiment with moving infielders to the backstop, at least not above A or maybe AA ball.
That said, DeRosa’s body type is closer to a catchers than, say, a Ronny Cedeno. No way you’d try Cedeno at catcher.
Wasn't Marmo a catcher?
Doesn’t seem to fit the catcher body type either.

But even though it didn’t end well, an 8-pitch at-bat against Sheets is not worthless. If Sheets pitch count gets up there, and is chased relatively early, the Cubs chance of winning goes up greatly.

His first hit last night
(the one on which DLee was thrown out) was a line drive to CF, and his first out tonight was a rocket right at SS. He’s hitting the ball hard—and, more importantly, swinging at good pitches.
